Presidents Report

We are nearing to Christmas with all the commitments and yetalso happiness that entails

Members partners and friends will be pleased to hear that theConcourse Christmas carnival put $1000 into our funds fromthe popcorn and the car parking A wonderful result and notparticularly expected but the smart thinking of our membersmeans that even in this essentially good will exercise we havemanaged to raise funds to support our causes

I attended the Presidentrsquos meeting on Friday the 27th andhanded over the coins we had gathered the Rotary Club ofForest Hill are thrilled with our contribution of overseas coinswhich apparently weighed over 22 kg and converted to over

$75 They have already raised over $4700 from District 9810this goes to UNICEF As time goes on I can foresee that thiswill overtake the Stamp Collection which has slowed consider-ably due to mail decreasing Irsquom sure our members will haveno trouble in keeping travelling so that we can keep the coinscoming

At the Presidentsrsquo meeting David Tolstrup the DG again fea-tured Interplast as a particular cause He wants to fund acomplete Interplast team I will discuss this very worthwhileinitiative with the Board next week when we meet

He also noted that the District Golf Day will be on April 14th

2016 This is replacing the District Golf day prior to the Con-ference we are still holding our own prior to the Conference

This week we again enjoyed a stunning new member talkfrom our distinguished artist member Max Darby Itrsquos fan-tastic to hear of membersrsquo skills and achievementsMaxrsquos work with schools and communities no matterwhat their resources is symptomatic of his commitmentand dedication Maxrsquos skilled adoption of the new willalso be an asset to us We are fortunate to have him as amember

Our meeting at The Buckingham went well as Malcolmreflected itrsquos always good to see what the other optionsoffer Even changing the running sheet around was inter-

esting we finished early for the first time in a long time

Next week is the usual busy week the Board meeting atthe Senior Citizensrdquo Centre on Tuesday night the Christ-mas30th Celebration on Thursday and the Farmers Mar-ket on Saturday

I would like to thank the organizing committee for theChristmas30th Celebration it has been a big project andthe team are committed to excellence so it will be a won-derful night For a Kris Kringle we are recycling re-sources again members please bring 2 recycled books

wrapped in silver ribbon (the Pearl theme for 30) partnersplease bring one recycled book wrapped in silver ribbon(see page 4) That way we will have enough books for allguests

Wolf Santa is making an appearance to distribute thebooks He is temporarily visiting Australia from the north-ern hemisphere where he has been terrifying Elves

We have an earlier start at 600 pm for 630 pm so thatwe can all enjoy the view and each otherrsquos company Iam looking forward to seeing current members partnersand past long term members as well as our invited guests

Max talked about his early struggles in secondary

school were his way of absorbing informationthrough visualization did not fit the learning para-digm of the teachers He was advised to leaveand get a job But thanks to his Motherrsquos perse-verance competed HSC and went on to tertiarystudies at RMIT

At the conclusion of his course he had a choice ofpursuing a profession of jewellery making or edu-cation he chose the latter

His personal experiences informed his view thatthe focus should be on ldquolearningrdquo first notldquoteachingrdquo

His resulting career has spanned a broad rangeof experiences in the Visual Arts and has beeninvolved with many initiatives related to Art Edu-cation These include

- working in Government and Non-Government

schools

- working in Visual Arts Nationally and Interna-tionally

- designing assessment policies and ensuringtheir implementation

- reviewing and evaluating schools and art de-partments

- reviewing and mentoring teacher performance

- opening numerous art exhibitions (student andprofessional artists)

- publishing 9 successful art text books and nu-merous articles for journals and magazines

- teaching Visual Arts to students at all levels

- coordinating and leading successful school Vis-ual Arts Departments

- teaching in most Visual Arts subject areas in-cluding painting drawing printmaking ceramicscrafts sculpture construction textiles photog-

Max talked about his early struggles in secondary

school were his way of absorbing informationthrough visualization did not fit the learning para-digm of the teachers He was advised to leaveand get a job But thanks to his Motherrsquos perse-verance competed HSC and went on to tertiarystudies at RMIT

At the conclusion of his course he had a choice ofpursuing a profession of jewellery making or edu-cation he chose the latter

His personal experiences informed his view thatthe focus should be on ldquolearningrdquo first notldquoteachingrdquo

His resulting career has spanned a broad rangeof experiences in the Visual Arts and has beeninvolved with many initiatives related to Art Edu-cation These include

- working in Government and Non-Government

schools

- working in Visual Arts Nationally and Interna-tionally

- designing assessment policies and ensuringtheir implementation

- reviewing and evaluating schools and art de-partments

- reviewing and mentoring teacher performance

- opening numerous art exhibitions (student andprofessional artists)

- publishing 9 successful art text books and nu-merous articles for journals and magazines

- teaching Visual Arts to students at all levels

- coordinating and leading successful school Vis-ual Arts Departments

- teaching in most Visual Arts subject areas in-cluding painting drawing printmaking ceramicscrafts sculpture construction textiles photog-
