Our two local politicians enjoyed themselves, the Mayor obvious- ly appreciates the work of Rotary, as does Murray Thompson. Warren Fricke and Kay Gordon were our representatives from the District, in addition it was really pleasing to see community representatives Deb Lillie ( Sandringham Lions), and Tina Dent (Sandybeach Centre) and quite a few representatives from our Rotary cluster, Hampton, Moorleigh-Moorabbin, Bentleigh- Moorabbin Central; also Marilyn and Peter Murie from Cheltenham and Greg Penaluna from Noble Park. Of course it was our members who made the night, To- ny with his smooth MC presentation, Jim, Richard, Re- wa, Roy, Wolf and the wheelchair front of house for the sendoff, with the able support of Judy O’Brien and Pat Seager. Roy’s reprise of his drag turn as Sandi the spurned, will take a long time to forget. The award of a Paul Harris, with sapphire to Peter Flude was richly deserved for his work for the Farmer’s Mar- ket. It was notable that Tim and Bev Ive attended again as Honorary members and that our newest Honorary mem- ber David Greenall had his last meeting as a member. Presidents Report A fantastic week! The changeover went extremely well, it was superbly planned and executed by Ken and Shirley and everything went without a hitch. Our two local politicians enjoyed themselves, the Mayor obvious-ly appreciates the work of Rotary, as does Murray Thompson. Warren Fricke and Kay Gordon were our representatives from the District, in addition it was really pleasing to see community representatives Deb Lillie ( Sandringham Lions), and Tina Dent (Sandybeach Centre) and quite a few representatives from our Rotary cluster, Hampton, Moorleigh-Moorabbin, Bentleigh-Moorabbin Central; also Marilyn and Peter Murie from Cheltenham and Greg Penaluna from Noble Park.

Of course it was our members who made the night, To-ny with his smooth MC presentation, Jim, Richard, Re-wa, Roy, Wolf and the wheelchair front of house for the sendoff, with the able support of Judy O’Brien and Pat Seager. Roy’s reprise of his drag turn as Sandi the spurned, will take a long time to forget. The award of a Paul Harris, with sapphire to Peter Flude was richly deserved for his work for the Farmer’s Mar-ket. It was notable that Tim and Bev Ive attended again as Honorary members and that our newest Honorary mem-ber David Greenall had his last meeting as a member. I hope that David and Lyn will still have that close con-nection to the club that others do.

Last week was an extremely busy Rotary week as Ken, Wolf and I attended the Hampton changeover dinner on Tuesday 23 June at the Sandringham Club. It was useful to see how other clubs ap-proach their changeover, make more contacts and ensure stronger cluster connections. Their incom-ing President Kylie McMillan already has extensive Rotary experience, her new ideas will no doubt be invigorating for their club. On Saturday we had a stall selling the Raffle tickets in the Concourse, with the dual aims of selling the tickets and also just getting ourselves out there. Thanks to Adrian for organizing and also to Richard Jones, Malcolm Sawle, John Beaty, Geoff Stock-dale, Heather Chisholm and Charmaine Jansz for staffing the stall. Adrian reports that we raised $320 in raffle ticket sales, and equally importantly we had many engag-ing discussions with people in the community, help-ing to raise the profile of Rotary. Heather advises me there is at least three strong membership pro-spects arising from this morning, one of which is lined up to attend our meeting on 2nd July. Adrian intends to organise another Saturday morning in a month or so in Black Rock Village – part of our com-mitment to getting out there and publicizing our con-tribution to the community. Ken and Shirley, Malcolm and Louise, Wolf and I went to the District changeover dinner on Saturday night, all the way out to Ringwood. Tony Monley has been a most impressive District Governor, the new District Governor David Tolstrup has tasked him with looking at the District distribution of clubs across Victoria, it will be interesting to see if this leads to an examination of the number of Districts. The District changeover, like ours, ran very smooth-ly and to time. David Tolstrup talked about the im-portance of teams to the strength of Rotary. I note that I have now gone 100 words over the length of Ken’s usual column so I will stop except to wish Sue McArthur the best for her recovery, and once again, on your behalf, I would like to thank Ken for his dedicated, strategic and inspirational leadership for the last year. Ken and Shirley made 2014/2015 a great year for the Rotary Club of Beaumaris, thank you.

Killer Tails Photograph by Paul Nicklen, National Geo-graphic Orcas show their smarts by working to-gether to whip up a meal. Here, a pod hunts for herring in Norway’s Andfjorden. Members of the pod coordinate their moves, herding a mass of herring into a manageable ball. They then whip their tails against the ball, stun-ning or killing the fish.
