Dear Parents, The school enjoyed an excellent Summer Fayre on Saturday with over 500 visitors to a wide variety of stalls and activities; along with musical and dramatic performances and choirs to round it all off. My thanks go to all parents and staff who volunteered in different capacities leading up the event and on the day itself. It was a wonderful occasion enlivened by the game of ‘guess the weather’ in advance. On the subject of guessing, we are on the cusp of a referendum decision in the United Kingdom tomorrow which has the potential to change relationships within the European Union – whatever way the decision goes. I must say that I have found the overall tone and level of the campaigns on both sides disappointing, and in particular the tragic death of a Member of Parliament last week has also overshadowed the debate in its closing stages. The result may be too close to call at this point. However, whatever the result, may I wish all families a very happy National Day tomorrow and please enjoy the festivities and fireworks tonight! St George’s Summer Fayre 2016

Happy Luxembourgish National Day!

Dear Parents,

The school enjoyed an excellent Summer Fayre on Saturday with over 500 visitors to a wide variety of stalls and activities; along with musical and dramatic performances and choirs to round it all off.

With my best regards,Dr Barkei

Primary School Summer ReadingOn Monday 27th June, Mrs Jansson will be holding an assembly about reading over the summer. St George’s encourages all students to read a wide variety of literature over the summer holiday. All children can participate by taking a picture of themselves and the book cover and send it to the designated email address: [email protected]. Some children may need help from a parent to take the picture for them and email it.

Chevetogne, Year 3 ResidentialYear 3 all had a wonderful few days at Chevetogne, learning ornithology, forestry, dam building and lots of cooperative team games amongst other educational and social skills activities. Despite the rain, this did very little to intervene or interrupt their learning outdoors and everyone carried on in good spirits and with great enthusiasm. The students did get a little wet and muddy but some of this was through their own creativity, particularly when dam building!

Year 3k Report on Chevetogne School Trip‘During our trip to Chevetogne we really improved our cooperation skills by building dams together. We all found rocks in the water and on the banks of the stream, we worked together so that the water wheels turned. We helped each other through encouragement. We tested our resilience, climbing up steep hills and crossing streams, crawling our way through a dark maze and continuing even when we were exhausted, wet and covered in mud.We learned about birds and beavers and we saw a beaver’s dam and their house. We also saw lots of birds like ducks, swans, geese, pigeons and woodpeckers in a tree. We tasted some honey from bees. They made honey at Chevetogne, it was so yummy!’

Each team played each other and the teams with the most points played in the semi-finals and the final.

The final from The Cup competitions was the ‘Leopards’ vs ‘Team Awesome’ and the final from The Plate competition was between ‘Blue Star Lightning’ and ‘The Avengers’.Congratulations to the winning teams:Winners of The Cup were the ‘Leopards’Winners of The Plate were the ‘Blue star Lightning’.

St George’s Summer Fayre

Summer Fayre 2016Last Saturday we held our Summer Fayre for the whole school. Once again it was a great success as all parts of the school community (parents, students, teachers and staff) came together to create a very special and unique day. The school was transformed, with brightly coloured international stands selling delicious foods from their countries together with fun-filled games, activities and performances providing the entertainment.

Thank you to all the volunteers who helped both before the event and on the day. Despite the nail biting 24 hours beforehand examining about four different weather forecast websites we made the right choice to remain outdoors for the majority of the activities. Next year we will have a nice new playground and the auditorium space too. The initial results for the charity fund raising are very promising and the final accounting will be announced in the Newsletter in the new academic session once invoices are reconciled. For those who kindly donated gifts for the Tombola and the Raffle we extend our gratitude: In no particular order: Eirelux; CK Fitness (Les Thermes); ATC fitness; Brasserie Benelux; D’Coque; Emile Weber; Diane Ries; Chapter 1; the French stand. For their support on the day: EUREST; Martinez ice creams; Moos & Roos (Bouncy castles); Happy Fitness and many more. See the Raffle prize winners list here.

‘Name the teddy competition’: Tiny teddy’s name was ‘Crystal’ and was correctly chosen by Charlotte in EYR. The Giant teddy’s name was ‘Chuckles’ and was correctly chosen by Julian in RV. Congratulations to them both. Finally, thanks to the students, performers, dancers and singers who performed for us and provided a wonderfully diverse day. - Friends of St George’s

Summer Fayre - A Big Thank You!The parent members of the Summer Fayre committee, on behalf of the parent body, would like to thank all teachers, caretakers and other members of staff who gave up their free time to work at the Summer Fayre. Anne White in particular worked late on many evenings organising purchases, tickets, liaison, health and safety...and much more! There was a true example of team work across the board which helped raise money for good causes. Thank you!Annette(international stalls) | Lisa W and Jannine S (Primary games) | Lisa D (set up, take down, stewarding)
