PUBLIC NOTICES 1851 ESTABLISHED 1892 COURTHOUSE BUILT SHELBY COUNTY Public Notice Final Public Notice - Impacts to Floodplain Regional Water – Water System Improvements Regional Water, Avoca, Iowa intends to seek financial assistance from USDA, Rural Utilities Service (RUS) for costs to be incurred while constructing improvements to its municipal water system. The proposed project consists of drilling a new well within its existing wellfield located near the City of Avoca in rural Shelby County, Iowa. All improvements will be designed and constructed to be protected from 100- and 500- year flood hazards. RUS has assessed the environmental impacts of this proposal and determined that the location of the new well will convert or effect a floodplain or critical action floodplain. In accordance with Executive Order 11988, Floodplain Management and USDA Departmental Regulation 9500-3, Land Use Policy, the Agency is notifying the interested public of this land conversion. It has been determined that there is no prac- ticable alternative to avoiding this conversion or effect and that there is a significant need for the proposal. The basis of this determination is the amount of floodplain to be converted will impact a very small amount of land. The area to be impacted is an existing well field and is utilized as a water supply for Regional Water. No comments were received in response to the Preliminary Floodplain Notice that was published on June 11, 18, and 25, 2021.
