Friends for Fun, Safety, and Knowledge
Summer made it here with a vengeance with six days in a row of mid to upper 90’s and high humidity. We have been hoping for some rain at our farm, but the rain keeps going around us. In fact, last week it circled around us for several days giving us no relief from the heat. We haven’t had any rain since June 21. But surprisingly, the corn looks dark green and over 9 feet tall. Just hope we get some cooler weather and moisture before it tassels out. We were planning to host the social at our home this month, but with the uptick in the co-
rona virus, we decided to be on the safe side and have a zoom social in-stead. We had a good attendance with 16 members and 8 guests on the zoom meeting. Thanks to all that attended and Mary Adams for setting up the meeting. As of now the Chapter Z Poker Run and the Chapter R Surprise Ride have been cancelled for this year. Mary told us of the Virtual District Rally. There will be a virtual bike show, a trike show, a crazy hat show, chapter mascot, and a pet show. Take a pic-ture of your entries and send them to Mary. Additional information can be found on the District website. We are looking into finding a suitable place for our July coffee that would al-low for correct social distancing for the evening event. Some possibilities we discussed included several sponsors that might have outside seating prefer-ably with shade. Another idea was to have a picnic at a park that has a pavil-ion like Lake Storey or Lincoln Park. A discussion about a Saturday ride was brought up with the 18
th as a possi-
ble first choice. Ken is going to send some options to me, and we will attempt to plan a 50- to 100-mile ride. We will let you know when we have finalized the plans. (continued on page 2)

We will be sharing more information on the New Hampton ride as the time gets closer. At present, we are planning to go on the ride unless there is a change in the virus situation. Oktoberfest is in limbo at present. Carl Sandburg College is struggling like most institutions to de-cide how to offer classes this fall and meet the requirements for social distancing, etc. At this time, they haven’t decided if they can provide service to outside groups. We will have to wait another month to see if they will be available to hold our meeting there. Another concern we will have to ad-dress is how to provide the food and while social distancing.
