New year – new Chapter Directors! As Lynn and I prepare ourselves for our new position within the VA-C family, we want to thank Dave and Donna Huey for their leadership and support. We know that they are only a phone call away should we need them and that is appreciated more than they know.

One major factor in our decision to step into this new role is our VA-C staff. We have a great, hard-working, and fun-loving team that genuinely loves this chapter and all of our members. Knowing that this support system is behind us, we know we can’t go wrong!

We still have a lot of uncertainty when it comes to events this year. While we’re hopeful that we don’t have as many cancellations as last year, we fully understand the need to pivot on a moment’s notice and try Plan B.

As of this writing, our gathering scheduled for Sunday, January 10th is still a go. Restaurants are not held to the “10-person” limit, but rather have an overall occupancy limit. Based on the number of attendees we had at our last gathering in November (less than 25), we feel that we should be okay. The tables are limited seating and distanced properly for safety. The same will apply to our Ride Meeting which is scheduled for Saturday, January 30th at 9 a.m.

For those who don’t feel comfortable attending in person and have access to Facebook, Randi will be live streaming both gatherings so we hope you’ll tune in. When it’s time to start, just go to the VAC Facebook page and you’ll see it there.

It is our hope that everyone remains safe and healthy in this new year. We want to “C” you real soon!

Dave Huey

Well, this will be my last newsletter article as I am just a member (JAM) once again.

Hopefully at some point 2021 will be back to normal

Donna and I thought it was time to let someone new head our Chapter. This was our

second time being Chapter Directors and was time to let someone else take the helm.

We felt that since John and Lynn have supported the last 2 Chapter Directors as

assistants, they would be the logical choice. We know that they are great supporters of

our Chapter and will do a great job with all of the support of the Chapter’s participants.

I want to say once again as I did in last month’s newsletter how we feel about Chapter

C. “You folks are the best. The past year could have and did in some cases really hurt

Chapters. Did that happen to Chapter C, no we still found ways to stay connected, ride

when we could and help each other if needed. You are the best group of motorcyclists

anyone could be associated with and I am for one proud to be a member of this

group.”

Donna and I hope that your families had a great holiday and were to enjoy with as

many as your loved ones as possible. We look forward to 2021 and Chapter C will come

out swinging and take on whatever it has to offer. We will still be there to support and

do all we can for our Chapter family.

Randi and Dave Finally, January! Time to thankfully start a new

year! Most of us learned at some point in time that the month of January was named after the Roman God, Janus. Having been a fan of Greek mythology, I really wasn’t familiar with the Roman deities. Reading about Janus, however, I felt it was appropriate to share some things I learned.

Janus is the Roman God of doors because this month is the door into the new year (although early calendars did not include either January or Februrary – they weren’t added until around 700 B.C.). What really struck me about Janus, and it’s pretty obvious from the picture, is that he has two faces!

Now, we all know that when we refer to someone as being “two-faced,” we are really implyng that they are insincere or deceitful. So why does Janus have two faces? It is said that he possesses the ability to see both the past and the future.

Okay, so how does that apply to us? As we remember all that happened in 2020, we are all hopeful for a more welcoming and pleasant 2021. The events and restrictions put in place due to the pandemic forced us to reflect on what’s really important in our lives. And it wasn’t only the pandemic that caused stress and sorrow. Many of us suffered losses totally unrelated to COVID. But even so, the one thing that we all (or at least the majority of us) lost was the human interaction. We convince ourselves that material things bring us happiness. And maybe they do…in the short term. But the longing for in-person contact with our friends reigned supreme during the past year. Those good ol’ GWRRA hugs are missed!

No one knows for sure what the new year will bring. What we do know is that our friendships will endure. We’ll continue to reach out and check on each other. We’ll plan our calendar just like we have always done and are hopeful that we’ll be able to resume all of our events opening to full attendance. When we can’t, we’ll continue to find a way to engage with each other either online or otherwise socially distanced.



The VA District Wingless Weekend has been moved to Feb. 26-27 in Williamsburg. This is a super fun event from the past that has been resurrected by the District. New this year, a convenient online payment option by credit card for all District events. Details are in the flyer/registration form in this newsletter.
