Friends for Fun, Safety, and Knowledge
L ast month, your Dis-trict Staff introduced
themselves. For this month, we’ve been asked to give a bit more infor-mation about our interests, years riding, etc. So, for a brief history, I’ve been riding since my late 20’s. My first bike was a Honda 50 which I used to drive back and forth to work and college. After being blown off the road by high cross winds, I decided I needed some-thing bigger and able to go over 30mph in a head wind!! My next bike was a Tri-umph 250 which was great for what I wanted. It also allowed me to go play with the other dirt bikes, so I began getting involved in hill climbing, racing, etc. Also, I didn’t like the col-or, which was a red, so I sanded the tank and fend-ers down and re-painted them a British Racing Green. Over the next ten to fif-teen years, I owned more Triumphs, including a Bonneville 650, a BSA 441 Victor and finally a Royal Enfield 750 twin. You might say I was hooked on British bikes!! Moving to Arizona in 1984, I needed economical transport to and from work, so after a few years,
I bought a Yamaha 650 twin. Nice bike and it served the purpose. Then,
in late 1989, I bought a used Kawasaki Voyager XII. Had this for about a
year before dropping it rid-ing home (I hit a big river rock that was spinning due to a car hitting it). A year later, I bought my first Gold Wing. It was a 1985 Aspencade. I kept this bike for a bit over 5-years before selling it. No more bikes until a year after I retired in 2009. In March, 2010, I bought a used 2005 GL1800 and a month later, joined GWRRA and Chap-ter R. I would have to say, that’s when the fun really began. Anyway, early last year, I traded the ’05 in for a 2015 GL1800 and the riding continues. I find I love riding, and will often take to it, rather than my truck. It’s just more fun!!! So, other than my love of riding and the Gold Wing in particular, my oth-er love (besides my beauti-ful wife) is model trains. I am a train junkie!! This includes a nice bedroom layout I built shortly after buying my home, along with occasional rides to railfan the real stuff. Be-tween the two, model rail-roading and riding my Gold Wing, I’ve combined my two most enjoyable hobbies!!! So, if we’re on a group ride and anywhere near railroad tracks, you might not have to guess where I am!! Jim Oliver CD-Chapter AZ-R Asst. Dist. Director –N [email protected]

T here are a lot of things in our life that are Mutually Exclusive.
The dictionary explains mutually ex-clusive as “Multiple events that logi-cally cannot occur at the same time.” Examples: • Go to the intersection and turn left and right. How can you turn both directions simultaneously? • I’ll have my hot chocolate cold? Can the hot chocolate be hot and cold simultaneously? Sure, it can be warm but it cannot be hot and cold at the same time.
Now let’s look in our “own back
yard.”
Fun – Safety – Knowledge
Here we have three propositions
making it even more complex. Is it
possible to have Fun, Safety and
Knowledge at the same time? I
contend that it is possible.
As GWRRA staff members, it is our
duty to provide our members with
Safety through Knowledge. The
more you learn, the safer you can
become. Knowledge is an ongoing
process. That’s why GWRRA has so
many and varied classes and semi-
nars.
I know, Safety and Knowledge are
serious but people will not want to
attend these classes if they can’t have
Fun doing it.
Don’t forget to have Fun. Dennis & Debbie Ammons

I t has been a very busy month transitioning to
the District Educator posi-tion and I must thank Rich Sturgeon for all his support and assistance. There are five new chapter educators in the Arizona District and I would like thank them for stepping up and volunteer-ing to a challenging but rewarding position. They are: Randy Wasser Chapter A, Connie Richtmyre Chapter S, Wallace John-son Chapter G, Gary Bow-ers Chapter P and Richard Sturgeon Chapter E. I en-courage all Arizona Dis-trict Chapter Educators to work together to provide the entire district the op-portunity to attend yearly
seminars and training. This can only be successful if all the members take ad-vantage of the hard work the educators and seminar presenters do to make this possible. So please be in-volved as best as you can. Feel free to forward any rider education suggestions my way or topics you’d like covered in the news-letter. On a personal note I enjoy riding as everyone in GWRRA does. Finding errands to do just to get on a bike and ride taking the long route seems to be a common personal trait of mine. At times I forget the actual errand I set out to accomplish. Currently I ride my 2008 GL1800, Can-Am RT Limited Spyder
and the Honda CTX 1300. A good friend and fellow GWRRA member from CA-1F is well versed in personal hydration and de-hydration. He sent the fol-lowing email to those on the CA-1F email tree which I feel should be shared with all. He agreed so here you are by Dick Long. “We are watching the Vi-king Seahawks game. The air temp is 2 degrees F. You can see the players' breath condensation in every breath they take.
That graphically shows how much water your body gives off with every breath. In addition, the capacity of air to hold water is directly proportional to the temper-ature. The colder the air, the less water it can hold. That means the more water the breathing will take out of your body through your lungs breathing cold air. There is a bit more to it but it shows why you need to hydrate even in cold weather. Enjoy the game.” JD. Ladner

W hat a wonderful day
we had on January
23, 2016 at the Arizona
Rider Expo at GO-AZ Mo-
torcycles in Scottsdale, Ar-
izona. GWRRA joined
with several other motor-
cycle clubs and organiza-
tions to reach out to all
motorcycle riders. A beau-
tiful day was had by all
and also a great day to ride.
We were joined by
our National Directors,
Ray and Sandi Garris, our
President, Anita and JR
Alkire and members from
Chapter R and some mem-
bers from Chapter D.
Look around you and
enjoy this great weather we
are having. We could be
knee deep in snow
and have more com-
ing down, as is be-
ing experienced by
the eastern and northern
regions. This is the time
we get to know and enjoy
our “winter members”
more. This weather is why
we endure the 100F tem-
peratures from May to Oc-
tober in Arizona.
Remember in GWRRA
you need only to be in-
volved as much as you
want. Still, the more you
know and do, the more fun
you and everyone else can
have.

T he GWRRA Uni-
versity is an all-
encompassing education and training
institution with two main purposes—
1) A vibrant, dynamic source from
which well-trained leaders can con-
tinue the practice of education,
coaching and mentoring;
2) To provide Members access to
some of the finest safety, profession-
al and personal, education and train-
ing in the world. This is the educa-
tion and training they would have to
pay thousands of dollars for some-
where else. The University is to be-
come the keystone supporting the
organization as it is today and devel-
oping leaders for the organization of
the future.
I am constantly amazed at the re-
sources we have available for GWR-
RA members. GWRRA University
offers education in three areas:
Rider Education The GWRRA Rider Education Pro-
gram (REP) is intended to make the
motorcycle riding environment safer
by reducing injuries and fatalities
and increasing motorcyclist skills
and awareness.
Membership Enhance-
ment The purpose of the Membership En-
hancement Program (MEP) is to en-
sure that GWRRA members at every
level in the organization have an en-
joyable experience while participat-
ing in the many opportunities GWR-
RA provides. To make a long story
short…we want you to have FUN!
Leadership Training The Leadership Training Program (LTP) curriculum focuses on leader-
ship skills while understanding that
knowledge is an enabler of those skills. Though some of the training deals specifically with skills needed
in a GWRRA leadership position, other training deals with Life Skills and Member Orientation topics that
will enhance the member’s life both within and outside of GWRRA. In general, our training is designed to
reach visual, verbal, and kinetic learners; our goal is “something for everyone.” It is the intent of the LTP
to deliver training in a professional manner and to make certain that training is a fun learning experience
for all participants.

I t is said, that the only “Constant” in the Uni-
verse is change. Some change is for the better, some, not so much. There are changes coming to the GWRRA Rider Education Program this year, and I am happy to say, they are for the better. Much of it will be behind the scenes, but some will be clearly apparent to those who have taken seminars and courses in the past. The following is taken directly from the new GWRRA University web page, (New training modules and the way we conduct training is being revised. The notion of sit-ting and listening to a
trainer present a Power-Point® presentation is be-ing replaced with partici-pative, interactive, and FUN training experienc-es. The old staple of: “We’re going to tell you what we’re going to tell you, followed by the ‘we tell you’, and wrapping up with, ‘here’s what we told you” is going to fade away.) Behind the scenes, or-ganizational changes are being made to streamline and consolidate the differ-ent divisions under one umbrella. Feel free to take a look at the GWRRA Uni-versity Web page. Simply go to:
www.gwrratraining.com and look around. No pass-word, or secret handshake needed. Another change is the addition of the “Lead Like You Ride” program. “A highly interactive, fun, training experience to help you learn to use the same leadership mindset and principles we use when we ride to lead your chapter, district, region or program. We can also use these same principles and tools to improve our own per-sonal and professional lives.” We have one com-ing to the valley on March 5th at the home office. The Rider Education Program belongs to you,
the members. You already have everything you need to take advantage of the seminars and courses, your GWRRA membership.

J ust a couple of notes this
month.
1) Please note the changes
in the District Rally
Registration (and see
the ARC and TRC of-
ferings).
2) Starting in this Febru-
ary issue, we are fea-
turing our Arizona Dis-
trict Chapter Directors.
You will find them
with varied back-
grounds and experienc-
es. This month, we
have CD Articles from
Chapters A, E, G, R, S,
and U. I’m sure you
will enjoy reading
about them as much as
we did.
3) Please look at our
COY/IOY section that
we have now. Here,
you can see the Arizo-
na 2016 COY’s and
IOY’s listed by Chap-
ter!
4) Sometimes as editors
we get some unusual
articles submitted to us.
This month, Diane
Lumpkin, our District
COY/IOY Coordinator,
provided us with a
handwritten article dur-
ing the District Leader-
ship Meeting at Casa
Grande. So we thought
it would be cute to post
her article AS IS. ;-)
But don’t worry, we
typed it and put it on
the next page in case
you can’t decipher it
(she has beautiful
handwriting!).
5) One idea for future ar-
ticles is how each
Chapter will ride to
Wing Ding 38. For
Example, Chapter E
has already booked all
hotels with routes and
itinerary. It would be
interesting to compare
how we get there and
back.
6) Staff: the deadline for
submitting your March
Articles will be Friday,
February 26. As usu-
al, we will send out
reminders via email
prior to the deadline.

H i, my name is Linda
Johnson, I just be-
came Chapter Director for
AZ-G. My husband is
Wally Johnson; we
have been married for
50 years. We have
been members of
GWRRA since
2007. We moved to
Arizona four years ago
from Anderson,
IN. We were selected
Couple of the Year for
Chapter E there, and
were quite proud to
represent our chapter
here, at the 2011 Dis-
trict Convention in
Tucson. The first
Chapter we attended
here was Chapter K in
Tucson, the people were
great and asked us to visit
again. Since we now live
in Green Valley we found
the Chapter here to be
quite friendly so trans-
ferred our membership to
Arizona. Since then we
have made several Gold
Wing friends here but still
keep in touch with the
friends we left in Indiana.
Wally bought his
first Honda in 2003, it was
a Shadow and did he ever
have fun, me I said no way
will I ride that. He then
purchased a Valkyrie,
again I said, no way am I
riding that, I want a con-
vertible, he said no way,
they’re too dangerous. His
next purchase was a Gold
Wing in 2006. I tried and
went on a few short trips
but still preferred 4 wheels
touching the ground. He
attended Wing Ding in
South Carolina, Wing Ding
in Oklahoma, trip to Min-
nesota, etc. I stayed home
knowing he liked the Gold
Wing best. (of course feel-
ing sorry for myself) When
he decided to trike his bike
I said, three wheels are bet-
ter than two.
Shortly, thereafter
we had a family reunion in
Colorado and I said why
not take the bike. We had a
really fun trip and were
gone for two weeks. Not
bad I said, let’s do it again.
The next trip was to Arizo-
na, and you know the rest
of the story.
I feel very honored
to have been asked to be
the Chapter Director and
am looking forward to
working with my chapter.

S nuggled on the western border of Arizona and
California, and on its Southern Border by Algo-dones, Mexico. Yuma has a base population of 120,000 people with a surge of an additional 70,000 peo-ple during the winter months. The majority of Chapter members consist of winter visi-tors. The Chapter is named “Coast to Coast Rid-ers”, after the single span bridge over the Colorado river that used to be the only way to get to California from the East Coast for 1,200 miles. Home to Fort Yuma, the Marine Corps Air Station Yuma, and Yuma Proving Ground (which is the size of Rode Island at 1,300 square miles), and a recent-ly renovated downtown area, Yuma is an interest-ing place to live and visit. For movie buffs, the origi-nal movie, “3:10 to Yuma” was shot in Yuma, AZ, but the new version was not. The Star Wars movie, Re-
turn of the Jedi was filmed in the
dunes close to Yuma. Howard Cart and his wife, Evelyn Kuida stepped in to cover the Chapter Director’s posi-tions for Chapter AZ-U
when the previous Direc-tors moved out of state. Howard and Evelyn both worked at the Yuma Prov-ing Ground where they met in 2003. Evelyn was the Occupational Health Nurse and Howard was the Direc-tor of Law Enforcement and Security and later ran the Government Services vehicle fleet of 1,000 vehi-cles. Howard was born in Elkhart, Indiana and served 21 ½ years as a military policeman and criminal investigator in the U.S. Marine Corps, then transi-
tioning to a civilian work-ing for the military in 1991, retiring at Yuma Proving Ground. Evelyn who was born in Califor-nia, worked as a nurse for 44 years. Beginning her 44-year career she worked in
the private sector, then the Veterans Administration, the Navy, and then at the Yuma Proving Ground in September 1997, as the Occupational Health Nurse, where she retired after being diagnosed with cancer. Beginning her fourth year of survival from cancer, Evelyn is the bright light in any room. She enjoys life and enjoys talking to people. Just pri-or to Howard’s retirement from YPG, he fulfilled a lifelong desire to own a Honda GoldWing. Having
experienced a motorcycle accident 35 years’ prior on a 920cc Yamaha Virago, Howard purchased his 2013 red GoldWing in Scottsdale, Arizona. The Cart’s also decided to buy and rebuild a 1981, 1100cc
GoldWing for Evelyn to ride, then put a voy-ager trike kit on it. With Evelyn being unsteady from her cancer treatments and a later injury to her shoulder, she is unable to ride a motorcy-cle so she likes supporting Howard and the chapter by transporting the equipment and other items in the family car.

Hello everyone, Larry and Gale Howard, Directors of Chapter AZ-E in the beautiful city of Sierra Vista. We were asked to write a short article about the two of us and the chapter. We joined GWRRA in 2004 while in Califor-
nia. We joined Chapter CA-1Q in Buena Park. While there we were given a good introduc-tion to what GWRRA is all about. We had an outstanding time with a
great chapter and met many friends and made many memo-ries. Then in 2010 we decid-ed to retire from our jobs with the Navy and move to Sierra Vista, AZ. We joined Chap-ter E just in time to find that they
were looking for a new Director and no one wanted to step up. Soooo, rather than lose a chapter that we had just joined, I stood up and there the story begins. (to which Gale asked if I was out of my mind). We are now into our sixth year as directors and we have enjoyed most everything about it. We accepted the position of Assistant Dis-trict Director in 2013, and stepped down just this year so we could devote more time to our chapter and some personal items. Prior to GWRRA we had many hobbies of which my favorite was driving drag cars. No matter how fast or how quick I went, it wasn't fast enough. Due to my job transfer we had to give it up, which was probably a good thing as it was a never ending money pit. Larry & Gale Howard, CD for Chapter E Cochise Wingers

Friends for Fun, Safety, and Knowledge
I t is hard for me to imagine a world without motorcycles
and if I do entertain that vision it is a gloomy place to
live. I grew up on a Montana cattle ranch in the Bearpaw
Mountains during the ‘70s when Evel Knievel was the
biggest name in stunt riding. We had turned the horses
out to pasture and started using motorcycles to work cat-
tle and ride the fences. My first Honda, a SL70, began
my love affair with machines. That little Honda was so
reliable and fun it was my ticket to many adventures even
if there were some long days in the saddle. My brother
and I learned to ride on the principle of “Pain is a good
teacher” and I must have crashed thousands of times in
that rugged country before I learned my limitations. My
brother Russell and I outgrew our SL70s and at age 12 I
got my first full size motorcycle, a Hodaka 125. I can
still remember that gorgeous chrome plated gas tank,
what a beauty!
Notice I was wearing all my safety gear! The face shield
kept those grasshoppers from flying into your face at high
speeds and covering up skin was important in case of a
crash in all that dirt and rocks. I learned a lot about being
a mechanic as I was responsible for keeping the bike run-
ning. Machines became a hobby of mine and probably
influenced my decision to volunteer for submarine duty
in the Navy. Those fast attack boats are amazing war
machines and the one I was assigned to had its keel laid
when I was two years old. The name of the boat was
USS Guardfish (SSN-612) and it was my home during
four years of the Cold War. I saw a lot of the world in
that boat but mostly through a periscope.
USS Guardfish Commissioning December 1966
After I got out of the Navy in 1986 I played around with
some old Triumph street bikes and learned to keep a Tri-
dent running. That was sure a challenge! I finally left
San Diego and moved out to Arizona in 2002 where I
soon heard about the Motorcycle Mechanics Institute.
That is a great school and I graduated from the early and
late model Harley-Davidson course in 2004. I really
learned a lot about bikes at MMI and soon folks begin to
learn you are a mechanic which is how I found my Gold-
wing. My 1986 Aspencade had been sitting in a garage
for over 10 years with only 36,000 miles on it. I fixed it
up for the guy to sell but buyers were few and far be-
tween during that last recession so I ended up buying it
from him cheap.
These Honda Goldwings are some well-engineered

S usan and Mike moved to Tucson in July 1998
from Las Vegas, Nevada, where they had met in 1989. Susan’s mother also worked for the Base Com-missary with Mike. She introduced Susan to Mike after he went on a bowling tournament with her and thought they would be a good match, and the rest is history! They married in 1990 in Las Vegas in the Candle-light Wedding Chapel across from Circus Circus, one of the many chapels on the Strip. Theirs is a blend-ed family; Susan has three daughters (living in Vail, Chandler, and Henderson Nevada) from a previous marriage and Mike has one son (Orlando, Florida) from a previous marriage. They have eight grandchil-dren, with six in Hender-son NV and the other two living here in Vail. Susan has been working at Raytheon for the past
five years. She is al-so the Board Secre-tary/Treasurer of their Fast Horse Ranch Homeowner’s Association, their
neighborhood borders the scenic Cienega Creek Re-serve. Mike is an Army brat
and has lived at a variety of military posts, most of them in the United States, and one overseas assign-ment in Germany. As a civil service employee, he transferred to Davis-Monthan AFB and works in the Meat Department at the Commissary. He’s al-ready worked 32 years and is eligible to retire.
Mike bought his first bike which was a Gold Wing in 1978, a candy ap-ple red GL 1000. His dad eventually bought it when Mike bought his second bike, a burgundy GL 1100 Interstate. Mike and Susan currently ride a blue and silver 2012 GL1800 Air-
bag model, which they purchased March, 2012. They have ridden 54,000 miles on it since then. Shortly after buying their current bike, their son-in-law bought a Harley and joined the chapter on the annual Sierra Vista New Year’s Day ride. Their longest trip was one made in June to Orlan-
do and up to Georgia, where Susan met Mike (“fly and ride”) and they rode on to North Carolina and Virginia, then to Ten-nessee. Susan flew home from North Carolina and Mike rode on to Missouri before riding home. Mike and Susan attended their first Chapter A meet-ing February, 2013 and decided to join GWRRA right away! They are Mas-ters in the Levels Program. They enjoy every minute of riding - especially riding their bike to visit their family in Chandler, Sierra Vista, and Las Vegas. Mike rides to and from work from Vail. Their fa-vorite ride is: In 2014 Mike attended his Region F Rally and both rode to their first Wing Ding. They bowl weekly with a league, also keep busy with yard work and occa-sionally foster dogs for Arms of Angels Rescue here in Tucson. They have four dogs, two cats, and two parrots of their own. D10. London Bridge: Remember
the old kid’s song “London
Bridge is falling down”? Now
you can see the actual structure
which was deconstructed,
shipped and reconstructed on
Lake Havasu. An interesting
tribute to Ye Olde England along
the shores of the Colorado Riv-
er.
D11. Poston Internment Camp:
One of the ‘dark ages’ of Ameri-
can history was the internment
of people because of their herit-
age and this is a reminder of
what can happen when xeno-
phobia takes over. Here is the
remnant of a Japanese-
American internment camp
where thousands of American
citizens were held during World
War II.
D12. Yuma Territorial Prison:
From Arizona’s ‘Old West’ days
this is a prison famous for its
notoriety. It was only open for
20 years but became a symbol
of isolation and brutality in the
prison system.
D13. Yuma Proving Grounds:
You’ve seen movies about Rom-
mel “the Desert Fox” and his
tank battles. Well now you can
see where many of the Ameri-
can tanks that fought were
trained in desert warfare.
Tanks, long-range guns, etc. are
all on display and the museum is
a history of warfare in the 20th
Century.
D14. Organ Pipe Cactus Nation-
al Monument*: Along the Mex-
ican border this park has some
interesting cacti and great de-
sert scenery. Some of the road
is gravel, but you can ride out to
the picnic grounds on a nice
paved road with fantastic scen-
ery.
D15. El Dorado Inn: From here
in Nogales you are looking south
into Mexico. Recent history has
changed what was a bustling
border shopping mecca into a
drug and smuggling center, so
be cautious, but enjoy a mo-
ment at an historical place.
D16. Patagonia RR Depot:
Pretty scene in a wooded area
and the beginning of Arizona’s
wine country. The Inn provides
a place to stay and a great steak
restaurant.
D17. Coronado Nation-
al Monument*: South
of Sierra Vista this park
was along the route
Spanish explorers used
to enter Arizona in the
1600’s. Pretty scenery
and a very nice visitor
center. Look south as
you enter the park and
you’ll see the fence built
on the Mexican border.
D18. Lavender Pit Mine
[Bisbee]: Arizona is the
‘Copper State’ due to its
many copper mines and here is
one of the large pit mines. If you
have time to take the Copper
Queen Mine tour, do so, it is
well worth
the time to
see how
these mines
operate.
D19. Gads-
den Hotel
[Douglas]:
Named for
the Gadsden
Purchase, which brought south-
ern Arizona into the USA, this is
an historic hotel with a beautiful
staircase that is great to photo-
graph. They also have a nice
restaurant to eat at and rooms
to rent if you want to stay the
night.
D20. Geronimo Surrender Cen-
ter: This is where the famous
Apache renegade finally surren-
dered to the US Army ending 20
years of war. A great memorial
with an easy place to photo
stop.
D21. Portal Store &
Lodge: One of the
Arizona towns you
have to go out of Ari-
zona to get to. Enter
from US-80 after it
crosses into New
Mexico. The town is a
gateway into the east
side of the Chiricahua
Mountains and a mecca for
hunters and fishermen. Fuel up
before you head in – there are
no gas stops here.
* National Parks and Monu-
ments usually have a fee. Buy a
‘Senior National Park Pass’ for
$10 for access to all of these.

TOURING ARIZONA [January 2016]
We are blessed in Arizona to have such a variety of unique topography, history and ‘odd’ places to visit.
The Touring Arizona program was designed to create guidelines for GWRRA members to visit many of
these places and to reward them for their accomplishments. For 2016 we have expanded Touring Arizona
to 125 stops. Each month we will discuss at 10-12 stops from the 5 Regions of the program. We hope
you’ll visit many of them.

TOURING ARIZONA – PHOTO TOUR
WHAT IS TOURING ARIZONA?
Touring Arizona is a photo tour of various places around Arizona, a magnificent State to
tour and one full of surprising wonders. For each place you visit, take a photo of yourself
and your motorcycle*. Each photo counts as points on the tour and you will receive hangar
bars to add to your pin.
* We realize there are some places you cannot take your bike into, or occasions
when there is no one to take your photo. We will accommodate those incidents.
Just let us know. Please be honest about your photos and visits.
WHAT IS THE TOURING ARIZONA PIN?
A beautifully engraved 1” x 2” pin with the label “AZ-District, Touring Arizona” surrounding
the Arizona District symbol. Hangar bars come with each area of the State you complete points for.
WHAT ARE THE LOCATIONS IN ARIZONA WE HAVE TO VISIT?
The points of interest (POI) are organized into five (5) geographical re-
gions; Colorado Plateau, Central Arizona, Southern Arizona, Arizona Route
66, and Border to Border region covering the outer corners of the state.
There are 125 Points of Interest included in Touring Arizona. You need to
send at least fifteen (15) photographs from an Area to receive the hangar bar for it. Send them as a group or one at a time,
however you wish.
WHAT KIND OF PHOTOS DO I NEED TO TAKE?
Photos must be taken after you start the program, so take the time to re-visit some stops you've already seen. We will not
credit any photos dated prior to your sign up. Photos must be digital (50-300 kb) or in print format. If you can include the date
& time that is better; otherwise let us know when you were there.
WHAT IF I’VE ALREADY BEEN THERE & DONE THAT?
Well, maybe it’s time to do it again. We like to say it’s the voyage, not only the destination, which makes riding your motorcycle
such a delight. Chapters are encouraged to take part in the program by recognizing rider accomplishments in articles and dur-
ing monthly meetings. They are also encouraged to include these POI’s in ride planning. Chapter recognition for the most POI’s
visited by chapter members will be recognized by the Arizona District. We will track and report member participation to the
Arizona District Director for further recognition.
NOTE: Although this is a GWRRA program you do not have to ride a Gold Wing. You do need to have a GWRRA membership,
either as a Member, a Family Member, or an Associate Member. See Bill Trask for more details.
HOW MUCH DOES IT COST AND WHY SHOULD I BOTHER?
The cost is $10 per person, for which you will receive the Touring Arizona pin, and the rights to each of the five hangar bars for
the areas of the State. Not only will you get a beautiful, unique pin for your vest, but as you add more hangar bars you gain
bragging rights and perhaps the chance to talk to others about some great places to visit.
For more information, registrations, maps, etc. visit the Touring Arizona page at the AZ District website:
