Il Bollettino
Last summer, the John Felice Rome Center hosted its inaugural film festival, showing student-produced films to a standing-room only crowd and to great acclaim. Rick Martini,
the film-making professor at the JFRC, gave his students a bit of advice during the 2008 summer session, βMake it factual, make it entertaining, and not least of all, make it spark the audienceβs interest.β Following those instructions, the six films created by 10 students in just a few short weeks exceeded every expectation.
Covering topics ranging from a profile of Professor Sergio Corsi in βMonkey Businessβ to a day in the life of a pizza, βLa Pizza Vita,β each film found a unique way to tell its story. βLa Pizza Vitaβ used only music and
lights, camera, action!
John Felice Rome Center students working on their film, "Sono Niente," about Gypsies in Rome.
images. βRockwellβ featured Peter Rockwell, son of famed painter and illustrator Norman Rockwell, as he talked about his experiences of becoming a successful artist in his own right, as well as his connection to his father. Through the words of those he has moved, βPater Nosterβ illustrated the effect Father Chandler has had on the students, faculty, and staff of the JFRC during his tenure.
At the conclusion of the class, the filmmakers proudly showed their films at the first-ever JFRC film festival. The house was packed and the films were a great success. To see for yourself the wonderful work of these students, and to learn more about the inaugural semester of this class, please visit romecenterfilm.blogspot.com.

A junior at Saint Louis University and a business marketing major, Annie recently returned from her spring 2008 semester at the JFRC and is the newest class captain Q. How did you find out about the JFRC?
A. Some of my friends from SLU went and said they would do anything to go back there again. I was nervous
about spending a whole semester there, and the language barrier, but as soon as I arrived, I felt at
home.
Q: What was your favorite experience?
A: One of my favorite memories is of our trip to Tunisia. It was so well organized and such a great opportunity to go somewhere in Africa. We camped overnight in the Sahara, rode
camels, and even met up with some Tunisian law students. It was a great opportunity to
meet people from other parts of the world.
Q: Why did you choose to stay connected with the JFRC?
A: I was invited to be class president, as a liaison between my class, the JFRC, and the other alumni. The JFRC is something I feel strongly about and I want to stay involved to keep our class together and to stay connected with this place that has had such a large impact on my life.
D e A R F R I e n D S , This August marked another exciting school year at the John Felice Rome Center. Through each new class, I see the mission of our dear founder, John Felice, being fulfilled.
This past September I attended the launch gala of Partner: The Campaign for the Future of Loyola. The most remarkable part of the evening was seeing how many loyal supporters came
to celebrate what is the most ambitious campaign in the history of Loyola University Chicago and the Loyola University Health System. The John Felice Rome Center, naturally, is a very important part of the campaignβs goals.
It seems fitting to me that Loyola has chosen βPartnerβ as the theme of the current campaign. now is our chance to truly be partners in supporting the legacy John Felice established and to ensure that all of the students who come to Rome have a life-changing experience.
In the upcoming months I hope I have the pleasure of meeting even more of you as you travel here to Rome and I attend events in states across the country. Thank you for your support and encouragementβtogether we can keep the flame that links us in love and peace alive through the JFRC.
May God bless you and keep you and your families always,
Emilio Iodice Vice President and Director, John Felice Rome Center

tremendously over the years and we are happy to announce that, as of July of this year, we have expanded the SocietΓ di Donatori to include more levels and more options for its current and potential members, including levels for young alumni.
To become a member, look for your letter in the mail in the coming months, or make your gift online at LUC.edu/JFRCgiving. If you have any questions or comments, please contact Robin Miller, annual giving officer, at [email protected] or 312.915.6363.
Thank you all for your continued support, and with your help, we look forward to future successes this fiscal year!
JFRC alumni and friends gathered at Piper Hall on October 16 for an evening of friendly conversation and delightful wines. The purpose of the event was to recognize and thank all of the members of the SocietΓ di Donatori. This vital group represents the most generous and dedicated supporters of the JFRC.
A special βthanksβ goes out to Dave Bruni (JFRC Spring β97, JFRC Alumni Board) and Oyster Bay Wines for donating the wine for the event. If you werenβt able to attend, no worries! Weβre making this an annual event.
See you there next year!

Donations to general operating, scholarship, endowments, and travel funds have been invaluable in making the JFRC a fixture in Rome. In fiscal year 2008, 787 alumni and friends of the JFRC contributed over $342,000 to various JFRC initiatives. You helped raise over $53,000 for the John P. and Mary K. Felice Endowed Scholarship, over $46,000 for Forza Roma, and over $81,000 for class scholarships in fiscal year 2008. We had a great year and are incredibly grateful for all the JFRC alumni and friends who participated.
we extend our deepest appreciation for all those alumni and friends who are members of the societΓ di donatori. We have listed the 2008 members in recognition of their outstanding support and generosity and for helping to lead the campaign for the JFRC.

As people leave the JFRC and settle into their lives around the world, we sometimes lose touch with them, but we know you donβt!
If you know someone who isnβt getting Il Bollettino, itβs because we donβt know how to contact them. To put them back in touch with the JFRC community, please contact Allison CotΓ© at 312.915.6742 or [email protected]. You can also log onto LUC.edu/alumni/jfrc and click on the βLost and Foundβ icon.

Last winter, John Felice, the founder
and guiding spirit of the Rome
Center, passed away at his home in
Glenview, Illinois.
In this special edition of Il Bollettino,
please fi nd a celebration of John
Feliceβs life and legacy. Although
these pages can never do justice to a
man who lived as rich a life as John,
hopefully, there will be something
here to make you smile, and to
remember a man who made the
world a better place by living in it.
