The 39th International Feature Conference will be held in Bergen
at the kind invitation ofthe NRK (Norway) on 12-16 May 2013.
On behalf of Lorelei Harris (RT/Ireland), Chair of the Features
Group, please findattached the official invitation with practical
information on the Conference(accommodation, location, transport)
and important deadlines.

Dear friends and colleagues,
Welcome to Norway and to the 39th edition of the International
Feature Conference inBergen.
The International Feature Conference 2013 will take place at the
Hotel GrandTerminus in Bergen, from Sunday 12th May Thursday 16th
May 2013.
The International Feature Conference is a forum for
programme-makers, young andold, who love the art and the craft of
the radio feature to come together once ayear from all corners of
the globe to celebrate the highest form of factual radio. Itsan
opportunity first and foremost to listen to and discuss programmes.
Also there willbe major presentations such as
On interrogation days the mass murderer from Utya 22/7 is
questioned for upto 10 hours. Police psychologist Asbjrn Rachlew
talks about interviewingtechniques and how he adviced the
interrogation team.
When power hits back. Swedish award winning journalists Bo Gran
Bodin andDaniel hman talk about their work with investigative
documentaries on radio.Program Director in NRK, Per Arne Kalbakk,
comments on the challenges forthe broadcasting companies.
The Power of Sound. Chair of The Sound Agency and many times
TED-speaker,Julian Treasure, talks about how sound affects us.
To guarantee the high quality of programmes presented and a wide
range of entries,there will be a pre-selection process. We would
ask you to pay particular attention tothe accompanying
documentation, which outlines how to participate and
contributeprogrammes, plus all the relevant deadlines.

The main business of the International Feature Conference is
listening and discussingsome of the latest and best documentary
productions from around the world.Each year, the number of features
suggested for inclusion in the IFC considerablyexceeds the time
available to listen to them, so, regretfully, we have to make
achoice.If you want your feature to be considered for inclusion in
the conference programme,you will need to send us your suggestion
before the deadline of

The EBU Features Group will meet on 7th & 8th March 2013 to
select the productionswhich will be played at the IFC. All entrants
will be notified by email of the outcomeof the pre-selection
process immediately after this meeting.

THE CONFERENCE
IFC Bergen 2013 will be held in the Hotel Grand Terminus.
Listening sessions and plenary presentations will take place in
the Conference Roomin the Hotel Grand Terminus.
A detailed timetable will follow, but IFC Bergen 2013 will open
on Sunday 12th Mayat 7pm with a reception in the Hotel Bar.
The programme of listening sessions, workshops and plenary
presentations by guestspeakers will begin from 9am on Monday 13th
May andendat 3 pm on Thursday16th May.

Friday 17th May is Norways National Day, then Norwegians fill
the streets with cheersand flags in celebration of Norways
constitution. So if you want to stay one morenight at the hotel,
please let the hotel know as soon as possible while you fill in
the
Hotel Booking Form.
ACCOMMODATION
Both the accommodation and the conference will be in Hotel Grand
Terminus, whichis located in the very center of Bergen. The cost of
a room is EURO 165 per nightincluding breakfast and lunch .
The town is called the city between the seven mountains and the
gateway to thefjords. It has a concentrated center built by the
Hanseats from Germany in the 14 th
century. For more information, visit Bergens own website.Here
you will also find how to get there and how to get around, and lots
of pictures ofthe city and the surroundings. The region is famous
for its blossoming fruit treesalong the fjords.
TRAVEL
Bergen is Norways second largest city, and you will reach the
airport Flesland bydirect flights from many European cities. The
earlier the booking, the cheaperthe flight!
We recommend the airport bus service from Flesland to the city
center. It takes about20 minutes, and the bus stops in 2 minutes
walking distance from the conferenceHotel Grand Terminus. The price
is around 13 Euro one way, 20 Euro t/r.
You might also take a taxi from the airport.In the city center
of Bergen most interesting things are within walking distance
fromthe hotel, the harbor, the fish market, the Flyen mountain, and

ENTERTAINMENT, RECREATION and EXTRAS
Evenings at the IFC are always among the most enjoyable and
useful elements of
the conference and on the evening of Tuesday 14th
May the Program Director,National Content Division in NRK, Per
Arne Kalbakk will host a boat trip and dinner onthe fjord. Details
to follow.
Additionally this year there will be a chance to share your own
favourite featuremoments with other delegates in the relaxed
atmosphere of a typical Bergen pub onthe Wednesday evening of the
conference.
On the mornings of Tuesday and Wednesday, we offer optional
drop-in breakfastsessions.
Lunch at the Conference will be served in the restaurant of
Hotel Grand Terminus andis included.
There will be two longer lunch breaks during the Conference,
giving you theopportunity to discover Bergen.
