Medical Cannabis bil lproposed for 201 3 LegislatureCCAARRSSOONN CCII TTYY -- A bil l al lowing registered medical

mari juana users in Nevada to acquire the outlawed drug is

one of the 1 44 bil ls being drawn up for consideration at

the 201 3 Legislature.

Assemblyman Tick Segerblom, D-Las

Vegas, said Monday he requested the bil l ,

which would be introduced in the state

Senate if he is elected to the upper house,

because there is no legal way to obtain the

drug, which is used to help people with

glaucoma and cancer patients who suffer

loss of appetite because of chemotherapy.

The medical mari juana law, implemented

in 2001 after overwhelming voter

support, al lows each person with a state

card to grow as many as three mature

and four immature marijuana plants and

have on hand no more than 1 ounce of

usable marijuana.

Tarantino - War on Drugs is Like Slavery

San Diego mayor orders end to city war on marijuana dispensariesSan Diego Mayor Bob Filner declared an end on

Thursday to the city’s legal war on medical pot with a

letter to city authorities ordering civi l prosecutors to

“stop the crackdown on marijuana dispensaries.”

Filner, a Democrat who was sworn in December 1 , said in the letter

sent to the police chief, city attorney and the city’s Neighborhood

A federal magistrate on

Monday ruled that the

Harborside Health Center

located in Oakland and San

Jose, Calif. , can continue to

operate, despite a bid by

federal prosecutors to shut it

down. Harborside is widely

considered the world's largest

medical cannabis dispensary.

The rul ing comes as the latest

move in a larger battle over the

fate of medical mari juana

dispensaries in California,

where shops operating in ful l

compliance with state law have

come under pressure from the

federal government.

Harborside's landlords have

called on the court

to order an immediate

halt of cannabis sales at

their properties in

Oakland and San Jose

on the grounds that the

activity is i l legal under

federal law. Meanwhile,

the city of Oakland,

which last year received

tax revenue from
