NOTES

1. There is a disagreement among family researchers concerning whether Thomas Wimberly was the father or the grandfather of the Lewis Wimberly of this study. It is the opinion of the compiler that he was the father.

2. No proof is offered placing a Levi Wimberly in this family. His presence there is purely circumstantial. In the Sumner County, TN, marriage record cited the surname is spelled Winberry. Winberry is a bonafied surname, however there did not appear to be a Winberry presence in the area

3. RootsWeb WorldConnect, Database: pepper168, Lewis M. Wimberly. Contributor. Dennis, [email protected]. Lewis married Levincia Boles after the death of Mary Bush.*

NOTES

1. There is a difference of opinion among Wimberly researchers concerning whether Lewis Wimberly, son of Thomas Wimberly of this family group, was the same Lewis Wimberly who moved to Orange/Chatham County, North Carolina, and whose wife was Martha Barbee. There was another contemporary Lewis Wimberly who lived in Bertie County. If the Lewis, son of Thomas Wimberly, sold the land he inherited from his father when he reached his majority as it appears he did, it would place his birth date at about 17 44. This seems to mesh reasonably with the projected birth dates of Lewis's older children. Also the land sale indicates that he probably did not intend to remain in Bertie County.
