pcl case study the issue Haemonetics, a global company engaged in the design, manu- facture and worldwide marketing of automated blood process- ing systems, became aware of performance and retention is- sues with their assembly staff. They commissioned a Validation Health Check to try to pinpoint the problem areas. the solution Haemonetics, Evergreen Personnel Limited and PCL collabo- rated on the project. Performance and personality data was ob- tained from a sample of 61 existing Haemonetics assemblers employed at its Bothwell plant in Scotland. The link between personality, as measured by the Hogan Personality Inventory (HPI), staff performance and length of service was evaluated. Analysis revealed that certain aspects of personality correlated strongly with the performance data, identified specifically as ‘oc- cupational commitment’ and ‘performance’. The analysis meant that potential employees could complete the HPI and Haemonet- ics would receive a tailored report indicating how well future can- didates matched against their job specific scales. the results As a result of the project Haemonetics are better able to select from prospective employees those who are more dependable, have better attitudes and teamwork skills and have more job knowledge.
