HT-ST 1200

MICROTEST Split Tube Furnaces for Testing Machines: 1200°C

DESCRIPTION

The standard application for high temperature tests includes a 3-zone resistancewire wound furnace. The cylindrical split construction allows an easy and quickloading of the prepared sample train. The temperature ranges from ambient (25°C) to1200°C with a state-of-the-art digital programmable temperature Eurotherm 2704controller.

Typical applications are: high temperature tensile tests, creep tests, stress rupturetests, LCF or fracture mechanics.

Typical samples are metal alloys with different geometries: threaded or shoulder endround or flat specimens.

Stainless furnace cover and asbestos-free insulation material (bio-soluble fibre).

Typical Heating element in Kanthal – A1 (*).

Max. Temperature: 1000°C -1100ºC on the sample.

Typical Operating Voltage: 230 V AC single phase 50 Hz (other voltages underrequest).

Every zone in the oven has its own heater that can be controlled through a type K

(altern. R, J or S) thermocouple and a sample thermocouple type K or S (total of 3thermocouples on the specimen) in a dual loop process (typically cascade control) withstandard color coded connectors and cables. This configuration leads to a high

temperature homogeneity on the sample and stability (less than ±1°C both cases)and a precise temperature long term control, without overshooting. The uniformtemperature zone (±1ºC) is at the middle of the furnace and at least 100-150mm.

Another set of three thermocouples is used to protect the furnace from accidentaloverheating (limiting over temperature control). The system includes additionalindividual controllers for these limiters, with a first limit to set the power down to zerofor the corresponding zone and a second one to stop the whole system for security.

The 2704 Eurotherm controller Integrates a sophisticated PID Control-Algorithmfor a precise Temperature along specimen and to prevent temperature overshooting. Each zone is individually adjustable for power to attain temperature uniformity on the

specimen length. Temperature control setting can be from 25°C to 1200°C.Thermocouple break protection is available. Cold junction compensation - Automatic(internal) and 45 and 50°C (external user selectable).

For each zone, the power is driven by Eurotherm Thyristors. The control unit system

includes fuse holders and fuses and furnace over temperature shutdown relay andcontactors.

The controller can operate in a stand-alone mode, including digital display of set andprocess temperature values or be operated by PC. The MICROTEST SCM3000software allows this operation including displaying and recording of temperatures astest data.

The furnace is a split design type, with adapter to machine pull rods, concentricallyplaced along the test axis. Top and bottom finish insulation is in low thermalconducting (low 'K' factor) vacuum cast ceramic fibre insulation to provide minimumheat loss, high temperature capability and for rigid structure.

(*)Kanthal A-1 is a ferritic iron-chromium-aluminium alloy (FeCrAl alloy) with high resistivity and very good oxidation

resistance. It is suitable for use at temperatures up to 1400°C (2550°F). Typical applications for Kanthal A-1 are

electrical heating elements in high-temperature furnaces for heat treatment, ceramics, glass, steel, and electronics

industries.

Ceramic end caps at the top fit snugly around pull rod and the bottom end cap havecut out for extensometer arms and pull rod and reduce the heat loss at this points.Bottom side end cap are secured with quick retainer clamps to keep the tight fitting of the above thermal insulation boards to seal the leakages.

The machine frame is usually adapted to accommodate the furnace. It uses an extra-large testing area and the vertical clearance allows an easy management of the

furnace. The furnace is mounted on the machine frame such that the position of thefurnace is normally adjustable vertically.

Operating Voltage: 230 V AC single phase 50 Hz or 400Vac AC 3 phases (underdemand). Furnace power cables of suitable length.

The furnace dimensions are usually adapted to the end user application.  To achieve a suitable low external surface temperature, an extra cover in stainless

steel acts as thermal shield for operator protection: extermal temperature <50°C.

HT-SSQ 1200

MICROTEST Split Square Furnaces for Testing Machines: 1200°C

The HT-SSQ 1200 furnace is another version for

MICROTEST 1200°C furnaces where the inner shape of the working space is square or rectangular.

The arrangement of the working space is adapted to

the customer’ s needs.

This construction allows the use of fixtures and grips

that are difficult to apply in round shaped furnaces.

There is a wide possibility of selection of widths,

lengths and heights for the working area.

These furnaces have also upper and lower load train

ports (holes) with adapters to machine pull rods,

concentrically placed along the test axis.

The HT-SSQ 1200 furnaces can dispose of one or three heating zones, depending onthe application and the available space.

The furnace is available with additional heavy duty brackets or mountings, which

attach to a wide range of testing systems.

The furnace can be placed within the loading space in a testing machine and the

mounting elements allows the furnace to retired from the machine when not in use.

In the case of three zone furnaces, the specifications are similar to those described for

model HT-ST 1200 furnaces.

Main Features are:

  Stainless Steel Shell

Ceramic shell heater with Kanthal A1

(2200°F/1200°C), or Kanthal APM Winding(1250°C)

Low K-factor vacuum cast ceramic fiberinsulation

Pull rods and adapters

A variety of pull rods and specimen adapters are available to

accommodate various specimen geometries. They are made of special

high-temperature materials for durability and ease of use. High

Temperature Pull Rods and adapter are in Inconel 718 or 713C

or other Ni based high temperature alloys.

Specimen Holders are easily removed from the pull rods to allow rapid

interchange of flat, threaded, or button head specimen shapes.

One of the standard configuration is applied for threaded samples

(M6, M8, M10,…).

This configuration makes use of interchangeable threaded couplings

made in high temperature resistant NI-base alloy or super-alloy and

defined for every type of threaded sample.

Other types of grips are made of Inconel-713C or 718 to fix into pull rods for high

temperature tensile tests of samples. For button head specimens, collars to hold the

specimens can also be supplied.Other adapters: pin and clevis specimen holders for mounting of flat specimens with a

mounting hole diameter, threaded-end specimen holders, special wedge grips, etc. in high

temperature alloys.
