How did you come to school today? By bus, car,
two-wheeler,cycle, or rickshaw? These are called vehicles. They are
alsoknown as means of transport
Different kinds of vehicles carry people and goods from oneplace
to another
Can we use the same transport to go every place?
The type of transport we use depend on the distance we travel
andthe money we spend

Land Transport
Some means of transport move on land. They are called
Landtransport
There are two types of land transport: Road & Rail
Today both Rail and Road transport are used to travel betweenand
within cities. Metro rail, city-bus, cars, auto-rickshaw etc
areused in cities
In deserts, camels are used to pull carts and carry people,
whilepeople in hilly regions use ponies and mules as means of
transport Elephants are used as means of transport in
forests

Road safety
Sometimes we walk to school or go to market or to a
friendshouse. We should be careful while walking on the road:
Walk on footpath only
Always use zebra crossing to cross the road Before crossing the
road look right, then left and then right again.
Cross only when no vehicle is coming from either side
Obey traffic lights. Walk across road only when traffic
stops
Keep to the left of the road while riding a bicycle. Always
signal
before turning. Use over-bridges or subways to cross the
road
At level crossings, never cross the rail tracks when the gates
areclosed
