What reasons do we have to give thanks to God as we enter the final months of 2020? For many of us, this has been a very challenging year. The global health pandemic has disrupted our lives—some have lost loved ones, others have lost employment, and all have lost some freedoms we once took for granted.

Yet, in the midst of these difficult times, the Word of God encourages us to “rejoice always, pray without ceasing, in everything give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.” (1 Thessalonians 5:16-18, NKJV) So, what reasons do we have to give thanks to God? We can thank the Lord that He will be faithful and keep all of His promises to us. He says, “I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will guide you with My eye” (Psalm 32:8 NKJV), and “call upon Me in the day of trouble; I will deliver you, and you shall glorify Me.” (Psalm 50:15 NKJV)

The apostle Paul reminds us that God is able to work “all things together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose” (Romans 8:28 NKJV), and “will supply all your needs according to His riches in

Christ Jesus.” (Philippians 4:19 NKJV) How have these promises been fulfilled in the global evangelistic media ministry of Hope Channel during the past year? Our studios and offices were closed in March 2020 as a result of the health pandemic. Even now, we are working with limited staff at our Hope Channel International, Inc. headquarters with much of our work still conducted remotely. And yet, in spite of these challenges, we have more requests for Bible studies than at any time in our history. There is a hunger for the Word of God and a longing for hope in these uncertain times.

Just a few weeks before the pandemic impacted the continent of Africa, Hope Channel Tanzania broadcasted an evangelistic series with Breath of Life speaker/director Carlton Byrd. These messages were delivered to more than 4,000 locations across Tanzania with a combined attendance of 143,511. At the conclusion of those meetings, 16,521 were baptized.

One of our global network channels in South America, Novo Tempo, prayerfully considered how to reach out to their viewers during Easter Week, a time when our churches typically conduct evangelistic meetings. With all of the churches closed and large public gatherings forbidden, our evangelistic media ministry became more important than ever. Novo Tempo broadcasted truth-filled messages by evangelist Luis Goncalves in Portuguese and Spanish to the entire continent. The result? More than 30,250 individuals requested baptism!

PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE What then shall we say to these things? The apostle Paul would respond, “If God is for us, who can be against us? He who did not spare His own Son, but delivered Him up for us all, how shall He not with Him also freely give us all things.” (Romans 8:31-32 NKJV)The country of Ethiopia has been closed to evangelistic media outreach for decades, with all media being controlled by the government. In recent months, God has opened a door of opportunity to reach more than 109 million precious souls in that great country where the Gospel was first preached by an Ethiopian official whose story is recorded in Acts 8. Hope Channel Ethiopia is one of our newest channels in our global network of 59 in total, and God is already impacting viewers across the country through a faithful preaching of the Word of God!

These are just a few reasons why we can give thanks to God. We are also thankful for you, our faithful partners in this global evangelistic media ministry. Your support has made a difference that will only be fully revealed when we gather together with all of the redeemed before the throne of God. May you be blessed beyond measure, now and forever. If you have been waiting

for a time to make a profound difference for God’s mission in these last days of earth’s history, now is the time! Hope Channel International, Inc. is planning a bold evangelistic initiative starting in 2021 that will exponentially increase our impact globally. Thousands more will request personal Bible studies and take their stand with God’s end-time people “who keep the commandments of God and the faith of

Jesus” (Revelation 14:12 NKJV).

Thank you for prayerfully considering what special contribution you can make, both financially and with your prayers, as we come to the close of this memorable year 2020. We will surely see God work in miraculous ways, and we will remember to give thanks to Him, for He is good, and His mercy endures forever.

With heartfelt thanks and continued prayers,

Derek MorrisPresident, Hope Channel International, Inc.

The year 2020 has been for some a dream they hope to wake up from. For each of us in our part of the world, COVID-19 has been a phrase interchangeable with pleasantries.

“How are you doing through this COVID season?”

A close second to the medical term COVID-19, is the phrase “social distancing.” Both terms have attempted to break the eighth commandment, “thou shalt not steal”. (Exodus 20:15 KJV) Steal what, you ask? For some, these terms have attempted to rob and pillage the world’s joy, laughter, peace, and a sense of gratitude. If there was a way for your joy to return, would you be open to it?

Robert Emmons, Ph.D., a preeminent scholar on the study of gratitude, shares interesting facts about gratitude. Emmons says, “grateful thinking and grateful moods help us sleep longer and longer.” In one study, people who kept a gratitude journal slept 30 minutes more compared to those who didn’t practice gratitude.” In addition to modern psychology, we have a foundation in the Word of God that offers us reasons to be grateful in times of difficulty.

I Thessalonians 5:18 (KJV) says, “In everything give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.” While Paul’s words to the church in Thessalonica are true, they can be difficult to apply. How can we have an attitude of gratitude even during this pandemic?

1. We Are Not AloneMatthew 5:45 (NKJV) says, “it rains on the just and the unjust.” All around the world people are seeking the Savior and praying for healing, deliverance and strength. Throughout this pandemic, angels of mercy reveal themselves in human form (Hebrews 13:2) to assist, comfort, and encourage. It is possible we could be accomplishing Jesus’ desire written in John 17 for his disciples to be one as we pray throughout this pandemic.

2. Inner Renewal is Happening2 Corinthians 4:16 (NIV) says, “Therefore we do not lose heart. Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day.” While COVID-19 has caused local and global separation, I personally have experienced opportunities for personal renewal. I have spent more time in prayer, reading and studying. I have completed projects around the house and been blessed to spend more time with my family. I have grown closer to God. It is important to take advantage of these precious moments. I am sure you have also grown personally and spiritually too.

3. God is Familiar With Our PainIsaiah 53:3 (KJV) says, “he is despised and rejected of men; a man of sorrows and acquainted with grief.” It would be hard for me to believe in a God who could not understand what it is like to be human. With all the funerals, memorials, deaths, and sicknesses, it is comforting to know God

understands my grief. Separated from family and friends, even in the moments of despair, God cares for you. He knows what it is like to be separated from His father. He also knows what it is like to die leaving His family. I am grateful there is a God who identifies with the pain that is present in our hearts today.

4. Our Voices are Heard in HeavenIsaiah 65:24 (NKJV) says, “Before they call, I will answer; and while they are still speaking, I will hear.” In times of challenge, God wants to hear us. In times of joy, God wants to celebrate with us. There is no time in your life that your prayers are insignificant to God. Ellen White says, “By your fervent prayers of faith you can move the arm that moves the world. (Prayer P.86).

5. Victory is Just Around the CornerWe will not always have COVID-19 nor be socially distanced. Revelation 21:3 (KJV) says, “and God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away.” I look forward to the day when we will never part again. Very soon, suffering will be a word forever deleted from the dictionary of the universe. I am so grateful that victory is in the grasp of the believer.

While an attitude of gratitude may not always be easy, it can be accomplished. I invite you to keep a gratitude journal and write down at least three things that were good in your day. Write down dreams for your future, or answers to prayer. In being grateful, we not only find ways to be connected to others, but to ourselves, our community, and most importantly, to our amazing and caring God.

One day, as I scrolled aimlessly through social media to detract from these thoughts and feelings, a divine timing post appeared, reminding me of the blessings I have.

Those needing shelter want the roof I have, those struggling with employment want the job I have, those facing physical illnesses or disabilities want the health I have, those unable to communicate with loved ones want the technology I have!

As I was entering my 4th grade year of school in my small-town community of New Bern, North Carolina, someone put a flyer under my door. The flyer stated there would be a day that money would be thrown in the street and no one would pick it up.

Needless to say, that flyer caught my attention and I gave it to my mother. Who would throw money in the street, and why would it not be picked up?

This led my mother, younger sister and myself to attend an Adventist evangelistic crusade. We had a neighbor who was Adventist and we would ride with them to the series.

I remember how excited I was when I attended the first night. My family won a Bible, and this was the first Bible I remember reading. I was so excited to be reading the Bible.

I continued to attend the meetings even when my family didn’t go. Eventually I became baptized during that crusade into the Adventist church.

But God didn’t stop there. At the public school I attended that year, the Lord blessed me with a wonderful teacher who happened to be Adventist. Her mother, who was also Adventist, taught at the same school and they arranged with the cafeteria staff that whenever there was unclean meat on the menu, they (the cafeteria staff) cooked a separate meal for me.

I am so thankful for the Bible workers and others who, during that crusade, listened to the Holy Spirit and were not afraid to put a flyer underneath my door. My neighborhood was not the best, yet it did not stop them from sharing the good news of Jesus with my family.

Little did they know the child in that house would go on to graduate from Andrews University, eventually work for the oldest Adventist evangelistic media ministry, and then become the new Director of Fundraising at the Adventist church’s newest tool of evangelism and one of its strongest: Hope Channel International, Inc.

Today, I get to pay forward what God has done for me since introducing me to his remnant church. During these unique times in which we live, Hope Channel is needed more than ever to relieve those who are feeling anxiety, depression, financial stress, loneliness, or spiritual decline because of the pandemic.

For those who have felt the above, they now can have hope through Hope Channel. From Let’s Pray which helped my sister get through major health concerns, Hope Sabbath School which helped the Sabbath lessons to come alive, to Hope at Home which provided uplifting and sound messages during the sudden escalation of the COVID-19 virus, Hope Channel was made for such a time as this.

Similar to the flyer that was slid under my door, we must ensure Hope Channel is slid through every media outlet in the world. It is a privilege to be part of Hope Channel and join the work of bringing God’s light into the darkness so that other kids and families like mine can be introduced to the beauty and soul-saving truth of Christ.

One day I was driving to work for an early morning meeting. It was the same route I take every day, but this time there was a road closure. I tried to reroute, but turn after turn, more time kept adding to my estimated time of arrival. I cried out to God for help. Frantic and frustrated, I finally arrived at work—I was late.

I jumped right into the workday and tried to make up for lost time. I was so busy and upset by my tardiness that I took the blessing of my safe arrival for granted. How often do we take our daily routines—like safely arriving to work—for granted? We live in such a fast-paced world, we forget to pause and express our thankfulness to God.

The story of the ten lepers in Luke 17:12-19 (NIV) comes to mind. Jesus was traveling and as He approached a village, the lepers called out in a loud voice, “Jesus, Master, have pity on us!”Jesus told them to go and show themselves to the priests. They walked in faith and were pronounced clean.

All ten lepers were healed, but only one, a Samaritan, returned. With the utmost

gratitude, the Samaritan leper humbly threw himself at the feet of Jesus and praised God for his healing.

Did the other nine lepers get too caught up in their lives to give thanks to Jesus? All ten lepers had faith, and all were physically healed, but only the grateful leper was pronounced spiritually well by Jesus.

Like the lepers, it is easy for us to cry out to Jesus and receive His blessings. But it can be a challenge to express thankfulness. Feeling grateful is not enough. We need to be like the Samaritan leper and express that thanksgiving.

“Give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus” (1 Thessalonians 5:18 NIV). Living a life of gratitude not only pleases God, but it also gives our lives spiritual wholeness, strengthening our relationship with Him. When our hearts are filled with an abundance of gratitude, we can’t help but share God’s love and mercy to others.

Express your thankfulness by sharing God’s good news for a better life today and for

eternity. When you partner with Hope Channel in ministry, your financial support spreads the gospel around the world through Bible-based programming. Your faithful gifts draw viewers closer to God.

Karen, a viewer from New Zealand, is thankful for Hope Sabbath School. She writes, “Hope Channel helps my spiritual life every day, and it draws me closer to our Maker.”

Santi, from Jamaica, is grateful for Let’s Pray hosts Season and Mario, who taught her to never cease in prayer. Santi writes, “May God continue to bless Hope Channel and the efforts made to spread the gospel to a dying world.”

Your gifts, given in thanksgiving, are reaching people who have never heard of God’s unfailing love before. Alleen, from Georgia, is thankful for the personal testimonies shared on Hope Channel. She writes, “I am so happy to know there is a place that is so engaging to which I can direct people who need to learn more about God. What a blessing Hope Channel is to the entire world.”

When you partner with Hope Channel, you are bringing the word of God to our viewers. “Hope Channel has helped me grow in God's word,” says Kaycee, a viewer from St. Lucia. “Viewers like me are truly being blessed.”

God never tires of blessing us, and we should never tire of giving thanks. “You will be enriched in every way so that you can be generous on every occasion, and through us your generosity will result in thanksgiving to God” (2 Corinthians 9:11 NIV).

We are so thankful for your partnership in ministry. Without your generous support, production of gospel-centered programming, like Hope Sabbath School, Let’s Pray, Bible HelpDesk, InVerse and many more, would not be possible. Thank you for being a part of this great miracle!

Every day of life is a miraculous gift from God above. Safely arriving to work—even late—is a blessing. We must remember to pause and give thanks to our awesome Savior. I invite you to cast yourself at the feet of Jesus and allow God to bless others through your thanksgiving.

Hope Sabbath School Study GuideStewardship: Offerings of Gratitude

What do you think of when you hear the word, “gratitude?” For many people, they think of thankfulness, a response that flows out of the heart, joy. Let us look at what the Bible says about gratitude as it pertains to giving and offering.

Read Malachi 3:8 “Will a mere mortal rob God? Yet you rob me. “But you ask, ‘How are we robbing you?’ “In tithes and offerings.”What is the key distinction between tithes and offerings? In Hebrew, the word tithe directly translates to tenth in Hebrew and according to Leviticus 27:30 (NIV), “‘A tithe of everything from the land, whether grain from the soil or fruit from the trees, belongs to the Lord; it is holy to the Lord.’” Tithe is a set amount out of our increase that the Lord requires us to return to Him. Offering is anything beyond that that we choose to freely give to God.

If offerings are a freewill gift of gratitude, how can it be considered robbery if we don’t give any offerings?

God reveals His blessings every single day of our lives, but many times, because of our ungrateful and selfish nature, we forget to show our appreciation to Him. Offering is one of the avenues to show that appreciation. God doesn’t need our money—He already owns all of it. But He entrusts it to us to build our character, show that we trust Him with our lives and finances, and use in service for others and to further His mission.

When we think about giving to God, it’s important to reflect on His sacrifice, the gifts He gives us, and the character behind his giving.

Read John 3:16 & Luke 11:13He loves us so much that he gave His “only begotten Son, that whoever be-lieves in Him, should not perish, but have everlasting life” (John 3:16 NKJV) and the “the Holy Spirit to those who ask Him.” (Luke 11:13) He is the ultimate gift-giver; our offerings pale in comparison!

And He gives us these good gifts with joy, so how should our response be? Paul writes in 2 Corinthians 9:7 (NIV), “Each of you should give what you have decided in your heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.” God cares about our intention and what is in our heart because it really is a reflection of our relationship with Him. He loved; there-fore, He gave. In like manner, we give, not in hopes for a return, but because we love Him. And when we are able to give cheerfully and unbegrudgingly, we are reflecting and testifying to others His character of giving.

1. Tithes and Offerings

2. A generous and cheerful giver

Read Matthew 6:19-21 (NIV) “Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moths and vermin destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. 20 But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moths and vermin do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal.21 For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.”

Laying up your treasure in Heaven is focusing on the eternal and not on the earthly possessions. We are God’s treasure and when we share Christ and reveal the gift of salvation to others, we are adding more eternal treasure to Heaven.

Compare the story of the rich young ruler (Luke 18:18-23) and the rich tax collector Zacchaeus (Luke 19:1-10)Why did Jesus ask the rich young ruler to give away all his possessions and not ask the same of the rich tax collector Zacchaeus?

Read Hebrews 10:32-34 When we care less about our earthly treasure and we store up treasure in Heaven, difficult situations won’t affect us as much. Even when it seems like everything is stripped away from us, we have comfort and joy knowing where our eternal possession lies.

3. Laying up treasure in Heaven What are some of the non-monetary offerings God has impressed you to share with those around you?

Read Luke 7:37-47, Matthew 6:1-4 What do our offerings and the way we give them reveal about our relationship with Jesus?

What important principles about giving do you find recorded in 2 Corinthians 8:13-14?

4. Non-monetary offerings

Welcoming the New Hope Channel Namibia

By Reagan Malumo, director of Hope Channel Namibia

Namibia, a beautiful country in the Southern African Indian Ocean Division, launched a new television station, Hope Channel Namibia. The local Adventist community is excited about the new devel-opment and church-members can’t wait to welcome their new channel. The church was issued with a broadcasting service license by the Communication Regulatory Authority of Namibia (CRAN) in 2018 and has since been working hard to launch a religious channel that will spread the good news of Jesus Christ in this territory.

The establishment of Hope Channel Na-mibia precedes the recent establishment of 5 FM radio stations launched in 2019 to boost the spread of the gospel in Namibia through media evangelism.

“We praise God for this exciting achieve-ment. The new TV channel will ignite the growth of the work in this territory, espe-cially now that we are working towards attaining a union status for the Namibia Territory,” stressed elder Edward Baron, president of the Namibia South Conference of the Seventh-day Adventist Church.

Elder Moses Muyunda, president of the Namibia North Conference and board chair of the Namibia Adventist Media Network, could also not hold back his excitement. The Namibia Media Network is a center owned by both conferences and is re-sponsible for managing local TV and radio projects. The Namibia North Conference donated a mission house that has since been renovated to host both TV and radio studios in the capital city, Windhoek.

Namibia has a population of 2.4 million people, with about 22 thousand Adventist church members. The country is sparsely populated with towns and cities geograph-ically located distant from each other. This has posed a challenge to mission workers, having to travel long distances to preach the gospel. At the moment, the Adventist church’s radio broadcast can only reach

five of the 41 urban centers, leaving the majority of other major urban centers un-touched. Thus, Hope Channel Namibia will serve as a strategic tool to help the church reach the majority of the population.

Currently, Hope Channel Namibia streams most of its programs on Facebook and is slowly gaining online broadcasting mo-mentum.

Nico Mwiya, business development man-ager of Namibia Broadcasting Corporation (NBC), is optimistic that an agreement will soon be signed to have the station feature on NBC decoder. NBC provides the biggest network coverage in the country, are more cost effective and do not require a monthly subscription fee, making it an accessible choice for viewers.

Once the agreement between NBC and the Adventist church is signed, Hope Channel Namibia will be the only religious televi-sion channel that will reach the Namibian population. Apart from English, most of its programs will be aired in some of Namib-ia’s major local languages such as Silozi, Oshiwambo, Rukwangali, and Oshiherero & Damara/Nama. The local Hope Channel Namibia production team has already started producing programs, with some of its English programs such as Country Living and Better Living to soon feature on Hope Channel Africa and Hope Channel International TV platforms.

In order to produce quality programs, studio and video production equipment is vital. Hope Channel Namibia relies on few local church donations, which has since been strained due to COVID-19. It is with faith and prayer that God will soon open doors for this new channel to receive the resources needed to make this channel a vibrant tool to spread the gospel in Namibia.

With in-person church services temporarily suspended due to the pandemic, Hope Channel created a weekly online response program called Hope at Home. Viewers were able to have a church experience while staying safe at home. Although it was intended as a temporary program, the overwhelming number of messages of gratitude from viewers were a clear sign that this program was needed. We “sat” down with the producer of Hope at Home for season two, Hannah Luttrell, to learn more about what happened behind-the-scenes for this season.

Churches are slowly starting to meet again in person. Do you think it is still important to continue with Hope at Home?

In season one, we noticed a strong viewership on Sunday mornings. Even with some churches starting to open up, there are many who are still unable to attend. Perhaps their health or age makes them more vulnerable, or perhaps they’re looking after someone who is part

of the more vulnerable population. Or maybe they’re lacking the motivation to get dressed up and

drive to a church where they don’t know the people very well. Whatever their reason, we want to be sure to provide an alternative where they could still receive a spiritual blessing and recharge for the week.

An interview with the producer of season two for Hope at Home,

Hannah Luttrell

HOPE AT HOME IS BACK

“We want to be sure to provide an alternative where they could still receive a spiritual blessing and recharge for the week.”

How does season two compare with season one?

Season two is a more streamlined, more defined home worship experience. At only one hour long, it includes singalong music, a children’s feature, a ‘wholeness’ interview segment with self-care tips for a healthier mind, body and spirit, and a story-based sermonette, all focusing on the hope that Christ brings for this life and the next.

What are you most excited about for Hope at Home season two?

It’s hard to pick! I’m excited about the music which we’re sourcing from some great partners. I’m excited about our children’s story that comes with a twist! I love how the interviews bring together professionals from different areas, like a medical doctor and a mental health therapist, and together we get a wholistic picture of how we can have hope through wholeness. And I can’t wait to hear all the sermons—we’re starting out with a Heroes of Hope theme that focuses on various Bible heroes who found hope in God despite challenging circumstances, and how their story makes a practical difference to us today in 2020.

What do you hope viewers get out of the program?

For our viewers searching for hope, and who are looking to connect with God and recharge spiritually, the goal is that they will be able to participate

in a worship experience that connects them to God as the ultimate source of relevant and lasting hope. “May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.” Romans 15:13 (NIV)
