The 2016 Camdenton Laker Football squad will be ready to answerthe bell August 19th, when the Lakers travel to Hillcrest for the season opener. The team has had a great off-season. The HOGS havedominated the weight room. The Candies (running backs, receiversand QBs for those who are unfamiliar with Candies) had a successfulsummer of 7 on 7. The team grinded through ten days of summercamp in the grueling heat. With all of the work that has been put in,the sweat that has been poured out and the strengthening of TEAM,the Lakers are ready to play. The excitement is growing but there is a lot of work to do once practice begins in August. The team has setlofty goals for the upcoming year. Through hard work, great decisionmaking, and playing good football, the Lakers feel confident they willfind their way to the top once again.

This year’s Laker squad has quite a few holes to fill due to graduation. Graduating All-Conference players Josh Keys and Parker Pitts (also All-State) leave big shoes to fill. The Lakers have four returning starters on offense, which include Dyllan Decker,Jay Griffin, Parker Stidham, and Austin Stamper. Wyatt Danuser,Parker Stidham and Todd Simpson return on the defensive side of the ball. It may seem, on paper, we are rebuilding, but many of our newcomers had varsity experience last year as role players. Thisyear’s squad features many new faces, yet possesses the Laker Pridethat has been passed down from generation to generation.

It’s time to introduce this year’s Laker Football squad and, as usual,we begin with the soul of Laker Football…THE HOGS! This year’soffensive line has five new HOGS to create running lanes for ourbacks and protect our QB. Seniors Wyatt Danuser, Dylan Kelly,Braxton Shamburg and Zach Howery all look to compete for a position on the offensive line. The coaching staff is also expectingjuniors Harrison Brownell, Connor Whitney, Wes Buckner, GrantNorton and Josh Semau to challenge for a starting spot on Fridaynights. Sophomore Parker Ray is a newcomer who has the size tocompete for the Lakers. Our younger HOGS will gain valuable experience on Monday nights during the JV games. Those players include Josh Harmon, Holden Looney, Jonathan Ortiz, Zach Trusty, Marlin Briggs, Jake Scarey, Riley Stidham, Camden Pitts, andSpencer Aldrich. Our JV team, year in and year out, has providedthese younger players with valuable playing experience. The coaching staff wouldn’t be surprised if a couple of these athletes work their way into a Friday night role.

This year’s running back position sees the return of Jay Griffin. Jay amassed 988 yards last year as a sophomore. We don’t expect

him to carry theentire load of theoffense. SeniorZach Wise is a talented andquick runner who will give the defensessome fits as they attempt to bring him down. Todd Simpson looks to step in at the fullback position. Todd has moved from tailback tofullback this year. He will receive quite a few carries at the fullbackposition to take some of the load off the tailbacks. Juniors WintonNeal, Bo Shore, and Seth Harris will have opportunities to see plenty of action on Friday nights at the fullback spot. Sophomore Andrew Butts is a talented runner. As he develops his skills throughthe season, he could end up with a number of carries on Friday nights. Our younger backs who will see most of their action on Monday nights include Lathan Wise, Cory Eskridge, Kyler Wilson,Davis Torrence, Josef Bernabe, David Smith, and Garrett Stamper. We are looking for all of these individuals to contribute and make an impact at the JV level. Traditionally, the Laker JV team hasbeen very successful each year. We expect nothing less this year.

Our receiving corps, which is made up ofour split ends, slotbacks, and tight ends, bring experience tothe game. ParkerStidham returns asour starting tight end.Senior Kyle Diebold, sophomore Luke Rasmussen, and junior Jesse Walker all look to challenge for the starting spot. Boston Hauser, Jonathan Lumley, and Mason Bowles will see plenty of action on Monday nights. Senior Austin Stamper and junior Jackson Ezard look to be the frontrunners for the slot position. Both players had quality experienceduring last season. Both are physical athletes who can catch the ballwell and also block at the line of scrimmage when the ball is run their way. Don’t count out Gabe Kurtz to earn a few snaps on Fridaynights. Jake Hill earned the starting position at split end last year, but due to a season ending injury during game one, his season wasbrought to an early end. Jake is now back at full strength and ready to hit the field. Ryan Smythe and Matt Lawson will be competing for some of the snaps on Friday nights. Zach Malone, Kane Simmerley, Jaben Shockley, Bryce Metcalf, Brandt Arnold, Preston Crabtree, Branden Howe, Chris Cone, Will Morgan, Slater Massey, and Kyle Boatman will see most of their playing time on Monday nights.

GO LAKERS and……..GO HOGS!!!!

Our final position to highlight is our quarterbacks. As usual, we have some talented athletes competing for this position. Senior Dyllan Decker and junior Isaiah Lumley will battle it out during practice to see who comes out on top. In years past, the Lakers havenot shied away from playing two quarterbacks throughout the year.Dyllan and Isaiah are unique and possess different strengths that canbe used strategically. Sophomores Cash Calton, Trenton Flug, andSkyler England will lead the Lakers to victory on Monday nights.

This year, the Lakers will featurea faster defensethan in the pastcouple of years. The Purple Hazewill be asked tostop the run with

our up-front players and stop the pass with our secondary. The Lakerdefense returns Wyatt Danuser, Parker Stidham and Todd Simpson. All three of these players played on the defensive line last year.Simpson will move to the linebacker position. Joining Danuser and Stidham on the defensive line will be Connor Whitney, HarrisonBrownell, Grant Norton, and Jesus Ramirez, who will be competingfor playing time on Friday nights. To round out the front line we have our defensive ends. Bo Shore, Jesse Walker, and Brandt Arnoldwill add to the strength of our line up front.

We will next feature our linebackers. Our inside linebacker positionis one of the toughest positions on the field. Todd Simpson, ZachWise, Luke Rasmussen, Riley Stidham, and Winton Neal will compete for those two positions. Josef Bernabe, Kyler Wilson,Boston Hauser, and Mason Bowles should provide a solid performanceon Monday nights. Our outside linebacker, named the “robber back”,will see Austin Stamper making the defensive calls for the PurpleHaze. Winton Neal will be cross-trained at both positions. GarrettStamper will see the majority of the reps on Monday nights.

Our defensive backfield is asked to stop the pass-happy teams we face in the Ozark Conference. Jake Hill, Jay Griffin, Dyllan Decker,Andrew Butts, Matt Lawson, and Ryan Smythe will all compete forthe three positions. Our hybrid player is a unique player who will beasked to play on the line as an outside linebacker or as a safety. This player must have some size and speed. Jackson Ezard and Gabe Kurtz will compete for playing time in this position on Fridaynights.

This year’s kicking duties have yet to be determined. At this time,Bryce Metcalf is doing a great job of taking the extra point and fieldgoal duties. Parker Stidham will handle the holding duties. Winton

Neal and Dylan Kelly are our long snappers. There are a number of players competing for the punting position.

Each year, we are blessed and fortunate tohave a dependable and enthusiastic group ofmanagers. This year, Avery Brownell, NoahMorgan, and Matthew Payne will take care ofhydrating our players, fixing equipment, andcompleting a variety of other tasks that enable our team to perform at a high level. These gentlemen have a great task. They are at every practice and every game. They easily earn and deserve the right to be called Lakers.

This year’s schedule is the same schedule as the past few years. The Lakers travel to Springfield Hillcrest in week one and travel toWest Plains for week two. Week three, the Lakers host the LebanonYellowjackets for the home opener. Week four, the Lakers travel toSpringfield Kickapoo. Week five brings the Parkview Vikings to the JOD. The Lakers travel to Rolla for week six. Week sevenbrings the most anticipated match up, year in and year out, as theWaynesville Tigers travel to Bob Shore Stadium for a great game. The Joplin Eagles make the long trip to Camdenton in week eight. For the final game of the regular season, the Lakers travel to Springfield to play the Glendale Falcons. While our regular seasonschedule remains the same, our district has changed. Every twoyears, MSHSAA sets all classifications and redraws all districts. For the next two years, the Lakers will play post-season in Class 4,District 5. The following teams are in District 5: Bolivar Liberators,Carl Junction Bulldogs, Hillcrest Hornets, Marshfield Bluejays, McDonald County Mustangs, West Plains Zizzers, and the Webb CityCardinals. At the conclusion of the regular season, the teams will beranked and an eight-team single elimination bracket will be created. The Lakers are excited at the opportunity to play a few differentteams and hopefully rekindle former rivalries.

This year’s coaching staff includes Jeff Shore (head coach), NickBruck (defensive coordinator), Steve Bayless, Par Pitts, Lance Foulk,Andrew Nolting, Tim McDuffey, and Shawn Maschino. The Lakerstaff would like to welcome Michael Siegal to the staff this year.Michael’s official role is the Laker technology coach. Some peoplemight wonder, “What does a technology coach do?”. Well, if you really want to know, follow Coach Siegal around on game night as he sets up cameras, the replay system, Ipads, communication devices, and viewing monitors. Technology has become quite the giant the last few years. We are extremely thankful to have Michael on boardto take care of all our techie needs. We would also like to recognizeour football operations staff of John McNabb, Marshall McGrath, and Ted Houx.

The coaching staff would like to thank all of the parents. Year in andyear out, the parents have entrusted the coaching staff with their son.We do not take this responsibility lightly. We thank you for your unending support. We thank you for the meals you prepare for ourplayers every Thursday night. We thank you for allowing us to coachyour son. We would also like to acknowledge our tremendous fanbase. Each year, you fill our stands at Bob Shore stadium and travelin force when we play on the road. We thank you for the time youspend supporting the Lakers. We look forward to seeing each andevery one of you this year as you cheer on these athletes!!!

Zach WISE“Well it’s been a long journey since seventhgrade, and I wouldn’t trade this brotherhoodfor anything. This sport has made me intothe man I am today. The best part aboutplaying is the crowd cheering you on underthose Friday night lights. Let’s make thisseason one to never be forgotten!”

Dyllan DECKER“Playing football for this program hastaught me countless lessons in the last sixyears. Being a Laker has been one of thebiggest blessings in my life, and is some-thing I wouldn’t trade for anything in theworld. Wearing that purple has made meinto the person I am today. For my last year,I can only say one thing... it’s... #SVGSZN.”

Austin STAMPER“Being a part of this football programmeans a lot to me and has been a big part of my life. It went by way quicker than Iwas expecting. If I was to give any adviceto any of the younger players, it would be to not take Camdenton Football forgranted.”

Giusep LOPEZ“Proud but never satisfied.”

Dylan KELLY“No matter how tired you get, how bad you hurt, and how sick you feel, you go 110% every down and everysnap. Nothing is given free, outworkeveryone, and last, but not least.... Playlike a bad dude and HOGS RULE!!!!”

Holden GARMANY“Never give up, never give in, neverstop, always win. These words havehelped me out with this sport all mylife, outside and in football. Theyapply specifically for the times it looked like we would lose, and then we won. I am blessed to have playedwith my teammates. HOGS RULE!”
