Dear Patrons,

On the pages that follow, you will read about the greatest resources of the Camdenton R-III School District, our students and staff. Our students are dedicated to the activities in which they participate and strive to represent our district in a positive manner. Our students are supported by skilled coaches, directors, and sponsors. These dedicated staff members not only teach the necessary skills of the activities they promote, they also instill life-long values. These efforts assist us on our

path to meet our vision of “Everyone Learning Every Day.”

Camdenton is known as one of the premier school districts in the state of Missouri. We are fortunate to have first-class facilities, thanks to the support of our patrons. Our district is ready to surpass last year’s accomplishments this school term whether it be on the field, on the court, or in the classroom. “Purple Pride” runs deep in our community and we thank you for your support of our students and staff.

Please continue to support our students and sponsors by displaying positive Laker Pride. Your example assists our students to continue the proud traditions of “Laker Nation.”Our entire school community encourages you to enjoy our activities. We teach, we learn, and we build relationships as Lakers through the activities highlighted in this wonderful publication. We look forward to cheering with you to support our amazing students.

It’s a Great Day to be a Laker!

Welcome to Camdenton HighSchool, Home of the Lakers! Itis an exciting time to be a Laker, and we are looking forward to asuccessful fall season of CHS activities. With the hard work and commitment of our students, coaches, and sponsors we are sureto continue that winning Lakertradition.

As we look forward to a new season of activities, wewant to thank our community for the continuous supportprovided to our students and our school. By working together, we are sure to maintain a positive learning community for our students and help them achieve great successes both in the classroom and on the field.

The mission of Camdenton High School is to providestudents with a relevant and rigorous educational

experience, helping them acquire the knowledge andskills to successfully become college and career ready in a global society. Extra-curricular programs are an extension of the classroom, and they play a significantrole in achieving this mission. Participation in these activities allows students to realize the importance of individual responsibility, competition, and teamwork, allof which will contribute to their future accomplishments.Through their commitment to team success, studentslearn valuable lessons regarding character and sportsmanship that not only help them succeed on the field of play, but also provide them experiences that allow them to become productive citizens and adults.

I encourage you to continue to support our students and recognize their efforts by displaying that positive“Laker Pride” for your school, your teams, and yourcommunity. We look forward to seeing you at our events this fall. Go Lakers!!!

Welcome to the Home of the Lakers! My name is Jeff Whitney and I’d like to take this opportunity to welcome our fans and guests to another great year of activities. As the Director of Athletics and Activities I am always excited about a new school year and the upcoming activities and events that come with it!

You may notice a new sport on the schedule this year. The Lakers have added Swimmingto its list of fall and winter sports! As some of you may know, over the past several yearsmany of our students have participated in Lake Area club swim programs. Now our youngmen and women have the opportunity to swim for the Lakers in addition to these teams! Our boys’ season will be during the fall and our girls will swim during the winter season.

Extra-curricular activities play a very special part in our school’s educational program. Our school and community are dedicated to our students’ pursuit of excellence and the values taught by interscholastic competition. The playing field is viewed as an extension of the classroom where lessons about sportsmanship,self-discipline, and perseverance are often learned. In addition, these competitive endeavors offer opportunitiesfor students from diverse backgrounds to learn the value of teamwork, cooperation, and mutual respect. We knowit is qualities such as these that will help develop the productive citizens and sound leadership of tomorrow.

As spectators, we too are an important part of this “classroom” and the lessons taught. We should always remember that our actions will speak much louder than our words. With this in mind, it is essential that we serve as positive role models for our student body. Officials, coaches and student athletes will often fall short of perfection; this is to be expected. Enjoy the contests scheduled this season - our students, coaches, and officials have worked extremely hard to give their best performance. Go Lakers!!!

The 2016 Camdenton Laker Football squad will be ready to answerthe bell August 19th, when the Lakers travel to Hillcrest for the season opener. The team has had a great off-season. The HOGS havedominated the weight room. The Candies (running backs, receiversand QBs for those who are unfamiliar with Candies) had a successfulsummer of 7 on 7. The team grinded through ten days of summercamp in the grueling heat. With all of the work that has been put in,the sweat that has been poured out and the strengthening of TEAM,the Lakers are ready to play. The excitement is growing but there is a lot of work to do once practice begins in August. The team has setlofty goals for the upcoming year. Through hard work, great decisionmaking, and playing good football, the Lakers feel confident they willfind their way to the top once again.

This year’s Laker squad has quite a few holes to fill due to graduation. Graduating All-Conference players Josh Keys and Parker Pitts (also All-State) leave big shoes to fill. The Lakers have four returning starters on offense, which include Dyllan Decker,Jay Griffin, Parker Stidham, and Austin Stamper. Wyatt Danuser,Parker Stidham and Todd Simpson return on the defensive side of the ball. It may seem, on paper, we are rebuilding, but many of our newcomers had varsity experience last year as role players. Thisyear’s squad features many new faces, yet possesses the Laker Pridethat has been passed down from generation to generation.

It’s time to introduce this year’s Laker Football squad and, as usual,we begin with the soul of Laker Football…THE HOGS! This year’soffensive line has five new HOGS to create running lanes for ourbacks and protect our QB. Seniors Wyatt Danuser, Dylan Kelly,Braxton Shamburg and Zach Howery all look to compete for a position on the offensive line. The coaching staff is also expectingjuniors Harrison Brownell, Connor Whitney, Wes Buckner, GrantNorton and Josh Semau to challenge for a starting spot on Fridaynights. Sophomore Parker Ray is a newcomer who has the size tocompete for the Lakers. Our younger HOGS will gain valuable experience on Monday nights during the JV games. Those players include Josh Harmon, Holden Looney, Jonathan Ortiz, Zach Trusty, Marlin Briggs, Jake Scarey, Riley Stidham, Camden Pitts, andSpencer Aldrich. Our JV team, year in and year out, has providedthese younger players with valuable playing experience. The coaching staff wouldn’t be surprised if a couple of these athletes work their way into a Friday night role.

This year’s running back position sees the return of Jay Griffin. Jay amassed 988 yards last year as a sophomore. We don’t expect

him to carry theentire load of theoffense. SeniorZach Wise is a talented andquick runner who will give the defensessome fits as they attempt to bring him down. Todd Simpson looks to step in at the fullback position. Todd has moved from tailback tofullback this year. He will receive quite a few carries at the fullbackposition to take some of the load off the tailbacks. Juniors WintonNeal, Bo Shore, and Seth Harris will have opportunities to see plenty of action on Friday nights at the fullback spot. Sophomore Andrew Butts is a talented runner. As he develops his skills throughthe season, he could end up with a number of carries on Friday nights. Our younger backs who will see most of their action on Monday nights include Lathan Wise, Cory Eskridge, Kyler Wilson,Davis Torrence, Josef Bernabe, David Smith, and Garrett Stamper. We are looking for all of these individuals to contribute and make an impact at the JV level. Traditionally, the Laker JV team hasbeen very successful each year. We expect nothing less this year.

Our receiving corps, which is made up ofour split ends, slotbacks, and tight ends, bring experience tothe game. ParkerStidham returns asour starting tight end.Senior Kyle Diebold, sophomore Luke Rasmussen, and junior Jesse Walker all look to challenge for the starting spot. Boston Hauser, Jonathan Lumley, and Mason Bowles will see plenty of action on Monday nights. Senior Austin Stamper and junior Jackson Ezard look to be the frontrunners for the slot position. Both players had quality experienceduring last season. Both are physical athletes who can catch the ballwell and also block at the line of scrimmage when the ball is run their way. Don’t count out Gabe Kurtz to earn a few snaps on Fridaynights. Jake Hill earned the starting position at split end last year, but due to a season ending injury during game one, his season wasbrought to an early end. Jake is now back at full strength and ready to hit the field. Ryan Smythe and Matt Lawson will be competing for some of the snaps on Friday nights. Zach Malone, Kane Simmerley, Jaben Shockley, Bryce Metcalf, Brandt Arnold, Preston Crabtree, Branden Howe, Chris Cone, Will Morgan, Slater Massey, and Kyle Boatman will see most of their playing time on Monday nights.

GO LAKERS and……..GO HOGS!!!!

Our final position to highlight is our quarterbacks. As usual, we have some talented athletes competing for this position. Senior Dyllan Decker and junior Isaiah Lumley will battle it out during practice to see who comes out on top. In years past, the Lakers havenot shied away from playing two quarterbacks throughout the year.Dyllan and Isaiah are unique and possess different strengths that canbe used strategically. Sophomores Cash Calton, Trenton Flug, andSkyler England will lead the Lakers to victory on Monday nights.

This year, the Lakers will featurea faster defensethan in the pastcouple of years. The Purple Hazewill be asked tostop the run with

our up-front players and stop the pass with our secondary. The Lakerdefense returns Wyatt Danuser, Parker Stidham and Todd Simpson. All three of these players played on the defensive line last year.Simpson will move to the linebacker position. Joining Danuser and Stidham on the defensive line will be Connor Whitney, HarrisonBrownell, Grant Norton, and Jesus Ramirez, who will be competingfor playing time on Friday nights. To round out the front line we have our defensive ends. Bo Shore, Jesse Walker, and Brandt Arnoldwill add to the strength of our line up front.

We will next feature our linebackers. Our inside linebacker positionis one of the toughest positions on the field. Todd Simpson, ZachWise, Luke Rasmussen, Riley Stidham, and Winton Neal will compete for those two positions. Josef Bernabe, Kyler Wilson,Boston Hauser, and Mason Bowles should provide a solid performanceon Monday nights. Our outside linebacker, named the “robber back”,will see Austin Stamper making the defensive calls for the PurpleHaze. Winton Neal will be cross-trained at both positions. GarrettStamper will see the majority of the reps on Monday nights.

Our defensive backfield is asked to stop the pass-happy teams we face in the Ozark Conference. Jake Hill, Jay Griffin, Dyllan Decker,Andrew Butts, Matt Lawson, and Ryan Smythe will all compete forthe three positions. Our hybrid player is a unique player who will beasked to play on the line as an outside linebacker or as a safety. This player must have some size and speed. Jackson Ezard and Gabe Kurtz will compete for playing time in this position on Fridaynights.

This year’s kicking duties have yet to be determined. At this time,Bryce Metcalf is doing a great job of taking the extra point and fieldgoal duties. Parker Stidham will handle the holding duties. Winton

Neal and Dylan Kelly are our long snappers. There are a number of players competing for the punting position.

Each year, we are blessed and fortunate tohave a dependable and enthusiastic group ofmanagers. This year, Avery Brownell, NoahMorgan, and Matthew Payne will take care ofhydrating our players, fixing equipment, andcompleting a variety of other tasks that enable our team to perform at a high level. These gentlemen have a great task. They are at every practice and every game. They easily earn and deserve the right to be called Lakers.

This year’s schedule is the same schedule as the past few years. The Lakers travel to Springfield Hillcrest in week one and travel toWest Plains for week two. Week three, the Lakers host the LebanonYellowjackets for the home opener. Week four, the Lakers travel toSpringfield Kickapoo. Week five brings the Parkview Vikings to the JOD. The Lakers travel to Rolla for week six. Week sevenbrings the most anticipated match up, year in and year out, as theWaynesville Tigers travel to Bob Shore Stadium for a great game. The Joplin Eagles make the long trip to Camdenton in week eight. For the final game of the regular season, the Lakers travel to Springfield to play the Glendale Falcons. While our regular seasonschedule remains the same, our district has changed. Every twoyears, MSHSAA sets all classifications and redraws all districts. For the next two years, the Lakers will play post-season in Class 4,District 5. The following teams are in District 5: Bolivar Liberators,Carl Junction Bulldogs, Hillcrest Hornets, Marshfield Bluejays, McDonald County Mustangs, West Plains Zizzers, and the Webb CityCardinals. At the conclusion of the regular season, the teams will beranked and an eight-team single elimination bracket will be created. The Lakers are excited at the opportunity to play a few differentteams and hopefully rekindle former rivalries.

This year’s coaching staff includes Jeff Shore (head coach), NickBruck (defensive coordinator), Steve Bayless, Par Pitts, Lance Foulk,Andrew Nolting, Tim McDuffey, and Shawn Maschino. The Lakerstaff would like to welcome Michael Siegal to the staff this year.Michael’s official role is the Laker technology coach. Some peoplemight wonder, “What does a technology coach do?”. Well, if you really want to know, follow Coach Siegal around on game night as he sets up cameras, the replay system, Ipads, communication devices, and viewing monitors. Technology has become quite the giant the last few years. We are extremely thankful to have Michael on boardto take care of all our techie needs. We would also like to recognizeour football operations staff of John McNabb, Marshall McGrath, and Ted Houx.

The coaching staff would like to thank all of the parents. Year in andyear out, the parents have entrusted the coaching staff with their son.We do not take this responsibility lightly. We thank you for your unending support. We thank you for the meals you prepare for ourplayers every Thursday night. We thank you for allowing us to coachyour son. We would also like to acknowledge our tremendous fanbase. Each year, you fill our stands at Bob Shore stadium and travelin force when we play on the road. We thank you for the time youspend supporting the Lakers. We look forward to seeing each andevery one of you this year as you cheer on these athletes!!!

Lady Laker VolleyballThe Lady Laker Volleyball team finished the 2015-2016 season with a 13-13-4 record and a 5-4 record in the Ozark Conference. With thegraduation of two seniors, the 2016 squad features seven returners and two newcomers. Returning for the Lakers are seniors Daphne Dinsdale, Jordan Wolfe, Mariah Hadfield, Tegan Shockley, Bailey McElyea and Blair Kurtz. These six seniors have set the tone for what hopes to be a highly successful season. Jordan Wolfe and DaphneDinsdale were both members of the Class 4 SC All-Region team andmembers of the Class 4 District 10 First and Second Teams. Hadfieldalso joined Dinsdale and Wolfe on the All-Ozark Conference team. This group of seniors is looking to leave their mark in the Laker Volleyball books!

Joining the six seniors on the varsity roster will be juniors Abbie Miller,Victoria Turner, Sara McDuffey, and Kylie Meier. Rounding out the varsity squad will be sophomore Natalie Basham. Abbie Miller is a returning letterman for the Lakers and will continue to be a valuable part of our 6-2 offense. Victoria Turner is a transfer defensive specialist/libero who will also see plenty of court time this season.Basham will see time as an outside hitter as she has proved to be an important part of our offense this summer. We are also expecting McDuffey and Meier to give us some quality swings off the bench when we need them to step in.

The Lady Laker Volleyball team has been working hard in the off-season and is fired up about the season beginning. We have beencounting down the days since last season, as we hope to continue to grow as a team and as individuals. With the rich tradition and pride that comes while wearing our uniform, it will be crucial to continue to strive to work together as one team with the purpose of overcomingany adversity that the season may bring. We are looking forward to theopportunity of proving ourselves in the always-tough Ozark Conferenceand setting our goal to make some noise as we push for a postseason runthis year.

“We would like to thank the parents, fans, community and school district for their support and encouragement. 2016 looks to be an exciting year for us and we hope to see you at our matches,” states Coach Walker.

Daphne DINSDALE“There are many athletes who can lookback on their high school experience sayingthey were part of a team. However, thereare very few who can say they were part of a family. I can proudly say that I am oneof the lucky few, and for that I am gratefulbeyond words. Over the last six years, Ihave made countless memories and formedfriendships that will last a lifetime. Beinga part of the Camdenton Volleyball familywas an experience that I will never forget.”

Mariah HADFIELD“There are so many words I could use todescribe what volleyball is to me, almosttoo many words. But the most importantword that would fit my experience withCamdenton Volleyball would be “family”.Over the years of playing I’ve gained confidence, strength, and most importantlya group of sisters. As this season comes toan end and we all move on to better, greaterthings, it will be hard to let go of such agreat program. But this team, this family, will be something I will cherish for the rest of my life. ‘For each other with eachother!’”

Blair KURTZ“At some point in volleyball history, somebody felt sorry enough for those of us too short to reach the top of the net togive us a name: defensive specialist. Fancysounding, but more accurately described as‘designated shagger’…JUST KIDDING!I’ve worn the DS title with pride throughmy years of Camdenton Volleyball. Andwhat a time that has been! These fouryears and five girls you see on this pagehave impacted my life in an indescribableway. You’ve got Daph, a solid leader onand off the court who always has anyone’sback and would never let you down. Jordi, who makes anyone on the other side of thenet pee their pants and has show-off killerdance moves in the locker room. Mariah, whose been know to growl at opponentsand also DJ some off-the-hook pre-gamejams. Bails, who literally does it all andonce wore a child-sized dinosaur costumeto a Halloween practice. These girls are the real deal, folks --- my sisters and myteammates. It tears me up knowing it’sover, but I wouldn’t trade it for the world.”

Bailey McELYEA“People really do mean it whenthey say senior year comes waytoo fast, looking back on when I first started playing in middleschool. I remember watching the varsity team play and thinking that my senior yearseemed so far away, but now it’s here! During these past four years of high school, myteammates and coaches have instilled a work ethic in me that I will carry with me into the future. I have made lifelongfriends and have made tons ofmemories I will never forget.Volleyball has always been asport I love and cherish and Ican’t wait to see what this season has in store for us.”

Tegan SHOCKLEY“It’s hard to believe senior year has come so quickly. There have been earlymornings, long days, tears, and injuries, but mainly laughter. I have played with the most dedicated, fun-loving group ofgirls and I couldn’t be more excited to take on this last season with them. ‘Together we win!’”

Jordan WOLFE“Since I could hold a ball I have had a volleyball in my hand. I would always gowith my mom to the gym and watch herplay and take the ball and hit it against thewall. Volleyball has always been a big partof my life; hard to believe this will be mylast year playing in high school. I have overcome so many obstacles thrown myway, had four surgeries and have fourscrews in my left ankle but still manage to keep pushing and playing the sport Ilove! The friendships and the memoriesthat I have made at Camdenton HighSchool will be something I cherish formany years to come. It will be hard to say goodbye when the season ends.”

The Laker Soccer program would like to say thank you to all those whosupport it both during the season andin the off-season. We would not bewhere we are today without the support, dedication, and hard work of our administrators, numerous parents, community supporters, booster club, volunteers, and students. The Camdenton Laker Soccer program, entering its 18th season, continues to establish itselfamong the Conference and the newlyformed District. This is all possible in large part because of the time andeffort put in by so many people whoyou will not see roaming the sidelinesor playing on the field during a match.

Our main focus this year is “OneTeam”. We see this as the core to our existence this season. These twowords encompass everything that isimportant to growing as a program. This belief guides us in the way weconduct ourselves on a day-to-daybasis - in our classrooms, our practices, and our games. In regard to relationships and achievements, we aim for “One Team” to be ourfocus. Our team will work each daynot only on soccer and the pursuit of a District title, but also on makingquality decisions and life choices that will make us successful, accountable young men.

This year’s seniors, Cyric Banuelos,Adam Davies, Justin Gerdiman,Dustin Moesch , Dylan Pluth, David Prather, Josiah Scheidemantle,Cooper Short, and Luke Weber arebusy establishing their roles on theteam.

This year brings a couple ofchanges in our program’s staff.New head coach Mike Gowbrings 16 years of Ozark Conference soccer experience. He is busy sharing his philosophy of the game andwhat it means to be successful, and finding the right players tofill the team’s varsity roster.

Along with Coach Gow beingadded to the staff, Patrick Dentmoves into an assistant position.Coach Dent brings a passion to coaching and developingyoung men of character to theprogram. Coach Dent will be directing the junior varsity program in addition to his assistant varsity coaching duty.

Chris Byington is moving intokeeper training and workingwith Coach Gow in guiding the varsity team to continue the success and effort put in by former Head Coach Jason Ingold, who has moved into an administrative role with another district.

“The guys realize that this is a start-over year for them. I came in with some knowledge of whothey are; but they need to workto establish themselves as playersand young men to be countedon. I was thrilled with the turnout this summer. We had good numbers each day of training, andso quite a few of them had an ideawhat I was looking for. I am excitedto continue my career here, and lookforward to helping our Lakers attaintheir goals,” enthuses Coach Gow.

Cyric BANUELOS“Soccer has been a great experience.”

Adam DAVIES“I started my high school soccer career as an inexperienced goalkeeper. Through my hard work and dedicationto the sport I’ve improved to become theplayer I am today. I’ve learned that hard workwill always create a better player than bornskill.”

Justin GERDIMAN “Soccer has been a very influential part of mylife. It has been there for me in good timesand bad. It has taught me so much, from patience and dedication to discipline and leadership. It has shown me I can set goalsand with hard work and dedication I canachieve and exceed them.

Last season we were able to get Coach Ingoldhis 100th win as a coach here and it was very cool to be part of that. I was also able to break the school goal-scoring record byscoring 29 goals over the course of the season. That is one of mygreatest memories of my high school career and would not havebeen possible without all of the support I have on and off the field.

The team has always been there to pick me up in my failures andcongratulate me during my successes. I have gained so many close friends. My freshman year was such a great introduction into the program and helped me build a strong foundation for mynext three years and on, both as an athlete and a man.

Right now I’m supporting my teammates from the sideline while I recover from a knee injury, but I look forward to finishing theyear out strong! During this school year and season I will look to improve myself in every way that I possibly can, and I willsearch for a college home where I can continue to play soccer.”

Dustin MOESCH “Through the years of my high school soccer career, I have dedicated myself to the program. It has definitely given back to me through great experiences and new bonds opening up withnew people. I have put in countless hours to prepare for this season and I’m ready to show it out on the field with my team.”

Dylan PLUTH “I started playing soccer in fifth grade. I hope to keep playing after high school.”

David PRATHER “I have played many sports in my lifetime and soccer has been a very big part of my life. The team is great. I am happy that Ihave them to support me in game and out of game. I don’t have a favorite moment because every minute that I spend with the team is my favorite, and I want to thank my coaches for the help on the practice field and off. The Laker Soccer program and theplayers are a family to me and Thank You!”

Josiah SCHEIDEMANTLE “I played soccer all four years of high school. It was fun, and the team was cool. As always, it’s a great day to be a Laker.”

Cooper SHORT“I can’t believe it’s already senior year. It still feels like just yesterday I was preparingmyself for my very first day of practice. Thissport has changed me. Freshman year I wastimid and quiet and now I am nothing like that. It was always weird seeing seniors graduate and move on. I never knew what that would feel like until the start of this season. One of my favorite games was beating Rolla in Districts. I have loved everysecond of my high school career. Seeing the team grow is truly an amazing feeling. This year our team is looking for the District Championship. After high school I am looking

to go to the University of Missouri for Sports Medicine.”

Luke WEBER“Throughout the past two seasons I have become good friends with the upperclassmen and it was hard to loose them when theyleft last year, but I think we took a lot of skills from them and willcome back from last season better. One of my favorite memoriesfrom the upperclassmen hasto be when my olderbrother Nick scored thewinning goal against Rollain Districts. As my soccercareer comes to an end, Irealize that I’m going tomiss all the guys and thegreat coaches.”

Extensive Match Experience!

2016

The Camdenton Softball team finished the 2015 seasonwith a record of 23-5 and a 7-2 second-place finish inthe Ozark Conference along with the program’s first second-place finish in Districts. Despite losing threedecorated seniors (Bailey Bilyeu, Kelsei Davis, andMadison Selby) who started almost every game sincetheir freshman year, the outlook for this year’s edition of the Lady Laker Softball team is definitely a brightone. We are very lucky to have so many athletic andhardworking young ladies on our team who are dedicated to the sport and who not only play high school softball, but play travel ball all summer as well.

We return six starters from last year’s team and eight varsity letter winners. We also have a good group of freshmen coming into our program this year.Returning this year are several players who were on the All-Conference and All-District teams last year andwho should provide the Lady Lakers with experienceand leadership. Two of those very talented and decorated young ladies are senior pitchers Kelly Utheand Kylee Compton. Both of these pitchers also playshortstop and third base, respectively, and both were All-Conference and All- District players, with KellyUthe being named co-pitcher of the year in the OzarkConference. We return two other well-seasoned and talented senior All-Conference and All-District playersin second baseman Kristyn Carpenter and first basemanErin Rasmussen. Those four seniors, when healthy, have started every game since their freshman year and,as captains and successful, experienced, decorated players, will be looked to a great deal to help this teamachieve its lofty goals. Returning letter winners also include juniors Bayley Miller, who is capable of playingalmost anywhere on the field, and Jillian Selander, whowas All-District and All-Conference as a freshman andwill once again be counted on to run down anything hit

to center and provide the lineup with speed on the bases.Junior pitcher Lyndsay Boots adds pitching depth to avery talented and deep pitching staff. Several of lastyear’s talented freshman class will be counted on assophomores to step into key positions. Fayth Rakesstarted behind the plate last season and provided theLady Lakers with a good receiver who possesses astrong arm and a good bat. Haile Farris is another sophomore who has a big bat and looks to play a majorrole in the team’s success from the pitching circle and in the field. Shelby Webster will also play a major role for the Lady Lakers as she can play the corners and possesses home run capability. Emma Uthe andSidney Jones are sophomores who were varsity letterwinners in the 2015 season and look to play prominentroles in the team’s success in the 2016 season. Sophomore Haley Wheat adds depth to our infield andoutfield and will supply a very experienced bat comingoff the bench. Senior Claudia Rogers, and sophomoresAutumn Reeves, Sasha Prather, and Dakota Weaver add competition to the mix and work to make our team that much stronger.

All in all, the outlook for the 2016 softball season is very bright. Tyler Dinsdale, who has a wealth of knowledge and experience, returns for his second season as assistant coach and will coach the junior varsity while also coaching first base and the outfield for varsity. The 2016 edition of the Camdenton Softballteam does face several challenges, including competingin the very tough Ozark Conference and working to winthe program’s first District title in a district that contains traditional softball powerhouse Willard. These are challenges that our young ladies and coaching staff are looking forward to embracing and overcoming with lots of hard work, talent, and luck.

Macie BOWLING “Patience is a virtue!”

Kristyn CARPENTER “Softball has made a huge impact on my life. I have had the opportunity to make lifelong friends, and have been able to sharemany unforgettable memories with them. I want to thank all mycoaches, teammates, and my parents for pushing me to be the bestplayer that I can be on and off the field. But most importantly, I want to thank God for placing softball into my life. I have been very thankful and blessed. Once a Laker, always a Laker.”

Kylee COMPTON “For the past twelve years, softball has beenone of the biggest parts of my life. Not a dayhas gone by that I haven’t picked up a ball inone way or another. I’ve met my best friendswho’ve became family. From all the summerweekends and late school nights, and roadtrips and bus rides, I’ve made memories I’llnever forget. I’m so thankful for my familywho have helped me pursue the passion Ihave for this sport. I also cannot give enoughthanks to the incredible coaches who havepushed me to be the player and person I am

today. They say home is where the heart is, and I’ve found my hometo be on our field with my girls. Ultimately, I’m so happy to have hadsomething that makes saying goodbye so hard. So much love for my softballfamily, and Go Lakers!”

Erin RASMUSSEN“Softball has introduced me to some of my best friends and so many great opportunities.”

Claudia ROGERS“I have been a part of this sport ever since my parents signed me upfor t-ball when I was around five years old. From t-ball to machinepitch, then machine pitch to slow-pitch, and from slow-pitch to fast-pitch. When playing a game for so long you get the opportunityto move around on the field. I have gone from pitcher to third base to catcher to first base to being in the outfield where I currently play.Softball has always been a part of my life and I can thank my momfor pushing me to continue on with it. I am so grateful that I get toplay on a field with such amazing and talented young ladies. Makingnew friends and reconnecting with some old ones during my highschool career has definitely been one of my favorite parts aboutbeing a part of this team. That, and Kristyn Carpenter dancing inthe middle of practices! Coach Calbert and Coach Davis have impacted my life by believing in me when I struggle to believe in myself. One thing I hope for the team this season is that we fight as hard as we did last year and finish it out just as strong.”

Kelly UTHE“Playing softball has taught me many things that I will carry throughout life. I have met a lot of new people and I have made many memories and friendships that I’ll cherish forever. I want togive a big thank you to my parents for spending the time and moneyand encouraging me to become the best player that I could possiblybecome. I also want to thank all the many coaches who have helpedme along the way. Time flies by, so something to remember: smile, life is good.”

“Yeah, the Lakers have a swim team!

I am excited to be part of the inaugural season for boys’ swimming. My name is Anna Leezer and I am the head coach for the Camdenton boys’ swim team and the assistant coach for the local swim club, Tridents. My involvement with swimming began in order to feel comfortable having my daughter play on our dock and during boating season. My family has been involved in swimming for nine years and it has become an important part of our life. When the district decided to add a swim team, I knew that I wanted to be part of the team’s maiden voyage!

The team is made up of a wide variety of athletes. Several have joined us from the local club team, several others have had swim lessons in the past, one swam for another high school, and others are just beginning to learn the sport. An exciting part of our team are the students who are not involved in any other sport!

Laker swimmers will compete in 11 different events: 200m medley relay, 200m freestyle, 200m individual medley, 50m freestyle, 100m butterfly, 100m freestyle, 500m freestyle, 200m freestyle relay, 100m backstroke, 100m breaststroke, and the 400m freestyle relay. Swim meets will be held in Springfield, Seymour, Monett, and Sedalia. Let’s go Lakers!”

“My name is Errin Gainey, varsity cheer coach. Along with Lilli Shields,JV coach, we are extremely excited foranother year with the program. I havebeen with the program for five yearsand am delighted to begin my sixth year with the new varsity team. I am a2000 graduate of Camdenton and bleed

purple and gold. I was a Camdentoncheerleader for six years and named All-American my senior year. I am fortunate to be able to share my experience and passion for the sport. Tryouts were held in April and we are thrilled to hit theground running with this new season.

The Laker Cheerleaders attended the National Cheerleaders Association (NCA) summer camp. They learned new cheers, chants, and stunts. The staff was really great with the girls and

helped them learn a variety of new skills you are sure to see. Thegirls have pushed themselves as they strive for nothing but the best.

We are preparing for the State Fair Spirit Classic Nationals, inSedalia, Missouri. This requires several extra hours of work and I want to thank the parents for their support. It takes a lot of dedication from all of us and I am looking forward to watchingthe girls perform. We are even looking into doing another competition this year and anticipate great success for this year’s routine.

I am eager to begin the new season and I’m looking forward toworking with the girls and making it the best year yet. Again, extreme thanks to the parents, booster club, and school district for all their support. We couldn’t do it without you.”

Cheers!! Go Lakers!!!

s the Laker Dance team coaches, we are really enthusiastic about the upcoming year! We have added five new freshmen who have lots of energy, skill, and technique. Adding these new girls to an already

existing group of talent is going to make for an amazing team.

This summer, the Laker Dance team hosted a National Dance Alliance (NDA) campwhere they learned a variety of routines to perform at football and basketball games.During camp, they earned a blue “Superior” ribbon for their team dance, as well asmany ribbons for individual performances. Not only did the team earn an invitationto the NDA National Championships, they also received invitations to four other varsity special events.

Without a doubt this will be an exciting, as well as entertaining, 2016-2017 season!

LAKER CROSS COUNTRY - “Gettin’ Better One Day at a Time”A famous quote in sports goessomething like this: “If you wantsomething you’ve never had, youmust do something you’ve neverdone”.

This is certainly true for the sport of cross country. Distancerunning is the perfect sport forthose seeking to reach a goal that, quite frankly, most people don’tthink is possible. To be able to run miles and miles takes courage, fortitude, and sacrifice. It is withthese qualities and goals in mindthat the 2016 team embarks uponits journey.

This year’s squad is quite differentfrom years past. Gone are thelargest graduating class that wehave had in 14 seasons, State andSectional qualifiers, and schoolrecord holders. The new team isfilled with plenty of new faces and untapped abilities. So to say that we will be young and inexperienced, well… that’s reallytrue. However, there are a few returning runners who I hope

will lead our squad in reaching our goals for the upcoming season.

Returning seniors are Nick Salsman, Coleman Roberts, andRaleigh Johns. These seniors haveseveral years of experience amongthem as Coleman has been with the program for four years andNick and Raleigh, three years each. Although this is not the most talented group of seniors Ihave had, their leadership and thehigh expectations I have for themhaven’t changed. Sophomore Garrett Mason returns for hissecond year after a great freshmanseason along with a quality trackseason. Garrett has some real talent and could be a leader interms of time for our squad as expectations are quite high for him. On the girls’ side, ErikaNevins, Haley Green, and SarahKetchum return as sophomores. These girls showed steady improvement last year and should continue to help our squad. Many of the new faces include seniors Katherine Miller

and Hannah Bentley. Hannah isback after taking some time awayfrom running and Katherine is areal hard worker. There are alsosome freshmen who will have an impact on our team this year, including Andrew Dibello, Hanna Lehner, and Kelby Virtue.

So while this is probably one of the youngest teams we have ever had, I am still excited about molding these runners into greatathletes who know how to go theextra mile. Cross Country is not a sport for anyone, it’s a sport foreveryone. Everyone, that is, whodesires to achieve a goal throughhard work, determination, and sacrifice.

I found out pretty quickly thatthis sport takes so much commitment; running every day is what we do. This sport has taught me more aboutmyself than any other sport could and it has led to things I’ll never forget, like running the L.A.
