The MESSENGER March 2018 Words from the Wilderness
11 You have turned for me my mourning into dancing; you have loosed my sackcloth
and clothed me with gladness, 12 that my glory may sing your praise and not be silent.
O LORD my God, I will give thanks to you forever! Psalm 30:11-12
Lent is here! We are traveling through the wilderness with courage. We are asking
questions. We are listening to others. We are humbling ourselves to God. We are celebrat-
ing God’s Kingdom to come. I invite each of you to continue on this amazing Lenten jour-
ney each Sunday at 9:00 am and 11:00 am for worship, and Tuesdays at 10 am for study.
Do not forget that there are daily Lenten devotionals as well.
Easter will be the conclusion of Lent. Easter will be on April 1 this year. Community
Christian Church will be celebrating Christ’s resurrection with the following schedule on
April 1 (Easter): 8:00 am Outdoor Sunrise Service, 9:00 am Easter Breakfast, 10:00 am
Joint Easter Worship in the Sanctuary. Invite your family and friends! Let us celebrate
Christ’s resurrection together!
Exciting changes are happening after Easter for our worshipping community. Start-
ing April 8 (the Sunday after Easter), our worship times will be changing. Our new sched-
ule will be 8:30 am Worship (outdoors, year-round), 9:30 am Sunday School (all ages),
10:45 am Worship (Sanctuary, year-round), 5:00 pm Worship (Fellowship Hall, year-round).
You might be asking, “What happened to our 11:00 am Encounter Worship?”. After five
years of effort and changes, the Encounter Worship service was still not meeting the goal it
was intended for. The Encounter Service will be finished. I want to applaud this church
community for making this effort to create a service to bring in the “unchurched”. At this
point in our history though, it is clear that we need to put our energies in different areas to
continue to serve this community in God’s name. I am sad for the loss of Encounter, but we
are resurrection people, and new growth and promise will occur because of this process.
Praise be to God!
Our God, Our Community, Our Church!

Disciple Women
Disciple Women Ministries (DWM) invites all women of
the congregation to participate in any and all activities
that might be of interest. As women at CCC, we are all
part of the DWM.
One ministry of the DWM is Disciple Women Fellow-
ship (DWF) which meets every 2nd Tuesday of the
month at 12:00 for lunch and worship. Please plan to at-
tend on March 12. Join us for potluck lunch or join us for
worship and fellowship at 12:30. Our study will be
Genesis 2:15 - 3:19 - Promise and Struggle in the Garden
led by Sandra Sloan.
Other ministries of DWM that you might be interested in
joining include: Letter and Lunch, Nimble Thimble
Quilters, Prayer Shaw Ministry, and Sewing Angels.
There will be a Pro-Reconciliation/Anti-Racism Training
on March 9 in Columbia, MO. This training will include:
speakers, video, interactive experiences and conversa-
tion. Pastor Brown, Sara Reiter and Rick Rollins at-
tended one of these session previously and indicated it
was excellent. Please let Janet know or contact Margaret
Weber (310.383.4256). There is funding available for the
registration and a group of us will carpool from Church.
