Principals News

P and C The next meeting will be held today at 2pm in the front room of the school. We hope to see you there! Don’t forget that when you sell your raffle tickets or you need another book, please come and see the front office. The student who sells the most raffle tickets this year, will receive a prize. Donations of any non-perishable items are now being taken at the front office. These items will go in the Christmas hamper that will become a prize in the raffle. 2019 Classes The staffing allocation for our school is dependent on the number of students enrolled at our school. The closer the estimate is to the actual enrolment the smoother the start to 2019 will be. Please advise the front office if your child in Year K-5 will NOT be returning to our school in 2019. Thank you for your support with this request. A reminder that Kindergarten enrolments for 2019 are still being taken at the front office. We still have three more kindergarten orientation days, each Wednesday afternoon at 1.45pm. If you know of any local families that have not commenced the enrolment process, please ask them to approach the school ASAP. Attendance Regular school attendance is a vital component of every child’s learning journey. Did you know- if a child misses half a day of schooling per week, over the year this equates to four full weeks of learning. There have been a number of families picking students up for swimming lessons during school hours. As a school we recognise the importance of swimming, especially living so close to the beach but ask that families make these lessons out of school hours. We need to ensure that we give our students every chance to succeed in their learning journey and we need to work together to support students to achieve their best. Rotary Citizenship Award Congratulations to Benjamin P who was awarded our 2019 Rotary citizenship award for 2019. Ben’s family and school staff enjoyed celebrating this award with Ben last week. Ben received this award for always demonstrating the school core values of respect, responsibility and cooperation in all school settings. He is a great role model for the younger students at our school through his learning behaviours and the way that he helps to provide a happy and supportive environment at our school. Transition Wellbeing Day Several Aboriginal Year 6 students participated in a transition to high school combined day run by Mission Australia last week. The students had a chance to mix with other students from all Kempsey schools that will be starting high school in 2019. Aunty Gloria was very proud of the way that our students conducted themselves during the day. Mission Australia continues to come to our school each Thursday afternoon and runs a transition program for all of our Year 6 students. During these sessions all students are involved in a variety of activities to aid in their transition to High School. We would like to thank Mission Australia for providing this opportunity for our students. Intensive Swimming All students in years 2 and 3 should be attending the intensive swimming. Students in years 4-6 who cannot confidently swim 50 meters should also attend. Payment of $50 is required up front this year however if you are having trouble with this arrangement please contact the office. Parent Focus Groups It is that time of year again, when we are collecting data to evaluate 2018 and look to the future for 2019 planning. As part of this process we will again be running parent focus groups to gain feedback from families. If you would like to be involved in this year’s focus groups please contact the front office.
