NOVEMBER 1, 2015 SOLEMNITY OF ALL SAINTS

DEAR PARISHIONERS and VISITORS:

In our Catholic culture the entire month of November is dedicated

to praying for the dead, especially people we have known and

loved. The Catholic Cemeteries of the Archdiocese of Vancouver

has recently made available a little prayer booklet. It contains

prayers and resources to help us commend to the Lord’ s mercy

deceased people we have journeyed with in faith, hope, and love.

We will endeavour to obtain some of these booklets to offer free

of charge to parishioners.

This booklet describes our motivation for praying for the dead: “.

. . a season (of prayer) for holy souls reveals our reflection of our

own mortality, celebrating and mourning those who have gone

before us, and gently gathering all of the past into God’s loving

embrace.” The booklet continues:” praying for the faithful

departed pleases God, who makes use of our prayers to help

purify the souls in purgatory that He loves.”

There are several ways to pray for the dead. You can arrange to

have Masses offered for your departed loved ones. Say a rosary

for those who have died. Devoutly visit a cemetery and pray for

the dead during November 1-8 to obtain an indulgence (must

include during that time receiving confession, Holy Communion

and a prayer for the Pope’s intentions). Pray the divine mercy

chaplet. Offer devotional prayers with an act of self denial to

deepen them. All these ways and others help the Lord to bless

you and to complete and perfect the purification of the souls of

the deceased. Fr. Galvon

Prayer for the Week

O Almighty God, Who by the love which You have

for men, have willed to take our humanity, to live a

life of hard work, to suffer a most cruel Passion, and

finally to die on the Cross, I beseech You, by the

infinite merits purchased for us with Your precious

Blood, look mercifully on the suffering which is

endured by the holy souls in purgatory.

Accept, O merciful God, the prayers which I offer

for them, and call them to the glory of heaven. I

recommend to You the souls of my relatives, friends

and benefactors, and in a special manner of those to

whom I may have been an occasion of sin by my bad

example.

Most Holy Virgin, Mother of Mercy, Comforter of

the Afflicted, intercede for those souls, that, by your

powerful intercession, they may be admitted to enjoy

that kingdom which is prepared for them. Amen.

¡ Dichosos !

Difuntos participan. Señor Jesús, haz que seamos

imitadores de tu santidad.

STEWARDSHIP IN OUR PARISH

Stewardship Profile of the Week

EDNAHas been coming to the cathedral for9 years.

Coordinates the Comunidad de Baseand the Genesis Bible study group forthe Hispanic community and serveson the Stewardship Committee.

Motto: “May Jesus reign in our hearts......forever!

Thanks, Edna, for your leadership, wisdom and kindness.

STEWARDSHIP REFLECTION The word “Beatitude” refers to a state of deep happiness or joy. Butthese sayings are paradoxes. They turn our normal expectationsupside down. Jesus is bringing us a new law, new expectations onhow to live. He is bringing forth the Kingdom of God. ”The Beatitudesand the rest of the Sermon on the Mount prescribe the lifestyle of aChristian disciple.” Each of these “blesseds” is a statement about animportant aspect in how we exercise stewardship of our lives. Eachof them offers us an ideal of how to live and how we find God livingwithin us. Learn the Beatitudes, memorize them, make them part ofyour daily prayer life, and ask the Lord for the wisdom and strengthto follow this stewardship way of life, a path that follows in thefootsteps of Jesus. www.catholicstewardship.org
