2 Corinthians 9:1-7Now concerning the ministering to the saints, it is superfluous

for me to write to you; 2 for I know your willingness, about

which I boast of you to the Macedonians, that Achaia wasready a year ago; and your zeal has stirred up the

majority. 3 Yet I have sent the brethren, lest our boasting of

you should be in vain in this respect, that, as I said, you may

    be ready;4

lest if some Macedonians come with me and findyou unprepared, we (not to mention you!) should be ashamed

of this confident boasting. 5 Therefore I thought it necessary to

exhort the brethren to go to you ahead of time, and prepare

your generous gift beforehand, which you had previously

promised, that it may be ready as a matter of generosity andnot as a grudging obligation.6 But this I say: He who sows sparingly will also reap sparingly,

and he who sows bountifully will also reap bountifully. 7 So

let each one give as he purposes in his heart, not grudginglyor of necessity; for God loves a cheerful giver.

    Introduction

Giving pleases God, for giving is the

very nature of God.God is the very one who has given the

supreme gift, the Lord Jesus Christ, to

    die for our sins.

    John 3:16

    God

    1. The Giver who have a Readiness andEagerness to give

    God expects Christians to give

Why?- Because some dear saints of God needed

    help.

    - Because ministries and the Gospel needed

to be shared to the world.

    - Because our commitment to missions is

    our greatest testimony to God.

    2. Givers who pleases God are not

    caught unprepared to give

Why?1. Christian who is unprepared to give

bring shame to the very name of Christ

    - The very purpose for Christs comingto Earth is to give and give sacrificially

    - Christ gave His life to meet the needs

of humanity, so that they might havelife.

    2. Givers who pleases God are not

    caught unprepared to give

    - A covetous life is not caring of peopledying prematurelty from hunger,

    disease, from emptiness, loneliness,

worthlessness and sins and evil, etc.- Covetousness is living extravagant,

1 Timothy 6:17-1917Command those who are rich in this present age

not to be haughty, nor to trust in uncertain riches butin the living God, who gives us richly all things to

enjoy. 18Let them do good, that they be rich in good

works, ready to give, willing to share, 19storing up

for themselves a good foundation for the time tocome, that they may lay hold on eternal life.

    Acts 20:35

I have shown you in every way, by laboring like this, that you must support the weak. And remember the

words of the Lord Jesus, that He said, It is more

blessed to give than to receive.

    I. The giver must give as he purposes

    in his heart

This does not mean that people are not

to be encouraged to give, nor that they

cannot be stirred to giveIt only mean that a person is

    - To think first the need to give

    - To think what he should givesacrificially

    - To make a deliberate decision to give

    - To give exactly what he should give

II. The giver must not give grudgingly

    - Not out of sorrow (unhappy orunpleasant state)

    - Not with reluctant or regret

    Note:

If the giver is going to be mulling over

and over his gifts and regreting that hehas given it, his gift is unacceptable to

    God.

III. The giver must not give out of

    necessity

A persons gift is not acceptable to God

    when he:

    - Is forced to give- Gives because he fears what others

    might think

    - Gives just to please others- Gives to keep others from pestering

    him

    - Gives out of desires for personal honor

IV. The giver must give cheerfully

    - If a giver wishes God to accept his gift- Only a cheerful and joyful giver

    pleases God.

    2 Corinthians 8:12

For if there is first a willing mind, it

is accepted according to what onehas, and not according to what he does

    not have.
