Wednesday, Nov. 1 is All Saints’ Day and is a Holy Day of Obligation. There is no Vigil Mass because of Halloween. Masses are at 8 a.m. and 7 p.m. Nov. 1.

Candy fundraiser—Holy Rosary Christian Mothers will hold a Sarris Candy Sale just in time for Christmas gift giving. The forms are available in the back of the church and must be returned to the church by the weekend of Nov. 11 & 12. Delivery is the weekend of Dec. 16 & 17. Return both sheets with your payment. Make checks payable to Holy Rosary Christian Mothers. All profits benefit the Christian Mothers. Since there is no longer a spaghetti dinner, this fundraiser will help to provide needed items for the church paid for by the Christian Mothers, including the missals, and Baptism and First Communion gifts. Don’t forget to turn your clocks back next Saturday night. We return to standard time on Nov. 5. Mommy & Me will meet from 9:15 to 11:15 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 7 in Rosary Hall. For more details on the group, call Melissa McGowan at 724-485-2681 or email [email protected] Every October, parishes in the Diocese of Pittsburgh take a count of the people attending the Mass each weekend. The Diocese has requested that an attendance count be taken every Sunday until April 8, 2018. This additional data will be useful in creating the new Mass schedules that will be developed after Bishop Zubik announces final parish groupings in April 2018.

Vendor Show—Holy Rosary's Pastoral Council will sponsor a Craft and Vendor Show from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 11 in the New Hall. Proceeds from this event will benefit the CCD Program. If you are interested in having a table, registration

forms are available in the vestibule. Forms are also available online on the home page of www.holyrosarymuse.org. Christian Mothers/Altar Society will sponsor a Bake Sale at the show. All proceeds benefit Holy Rosary’s CCD Program. They ask for your donation of homemade baked goods for this event. Your donation can be dropped off at the New Hall on Friday, Nov.10 between 5:30 and 8 p.m. Please call Carol Farkas at 724-263-1400 if you have any questions and/or would like to confirm your donation.

We welcome into our parish family, Selina Ann Margerum, daughter of Ashley Wozniak and Scott Margerum, who was baptized last Sunday. May the Lord bless you and your parents in grace and goodness always.

Important information on scheduling mass intentions. Holy Rosary is accepting mass intentions for 2018. However, in the fall of 2018, in light of the On Mission for The Church Alive! initiative, Mass schedules in parishes around the Diocese of Pittsburgh, including Holy Rosary, are subject to change. Because most parishes will see changes to the number of Sunday and weekday Masses and even different Mass times, those requesting a Mass intention after July 31, 2018 should be aware of the possible changes. This means that while we will make every effort to honor the scheduled time and date for Mass intentions, the time of the Mass you have requested and even the date or location may need to change. Also, it may be possible that your intention would be combined with other intentions at the same Mass. We will keep you informed about these changes as they become available to us. Catholic Women’s Fellowship Conference: BRAVE-Don’t miss the first-ever Catholic Women’s Fellowship Conference on Saturday, Nov. 18, a day full of inspiring speakers, building community with other women, time for adoration of the Blessed Sacrament, opportunities for confession and Mass, Come and be renewed to be BRAVE in your day-to-day life. To register, receive updates or connect with CWF, visit www.cwfpitt.org. 33 Days to Morning Glory—If you are concerned about the state of our nation and world, there is something you can do to change things. Join women from St. Patrick Church in Canonsburg as they consecrate ourselves to Jesus through Mary during this centennial year of the apparitions of Our Lady of Fatima. We will be using the 33 Days to Morning Glory program and will meet at St. Patrick Center from 7-8:30 p.m. Nov. 9, 16, 21, 30, Dec. 7 and 12, our consecration day, the feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe. The cost is $5. Jesus gave His mother to us to be our spiritual mother before He died on the Cross. By consecrating ourselves to Mary, we allow her to form us in holiness and draw us closer to her Son and His mercy. Call Patty Costantino (724-745-3526) or Karen Luksis (724-745-3767) to register or for more information. All are welcome.

Memorial Mass—Holy Rosary will celebrate a Mass at 7 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 2, the Commemoration of All the Faithful Departed. At this Mass, the names of parishioners who have died this past year will be read during a Ceremony of Light. After Mass, refreshments will be served in the

New Hall. All are invited. In addition, the Youth Group plans to honor and remember loved ones with flowers. Forms must be returned this Sunday, Oct. 29.

During the month of November, Holy Rosary will have a Table of Remembrance and the Book of Eternal Life in the church. You are invited to place pictures of your deceased loved ones on the Table of Remembrance. Please label the back of the photo with your name and phone number so that it can be returned to you. Pick up all photos by the weekend of Nov. 18-19. The Book of Eternal Life will be available for you to

write the names of your deceased loved ones. The book, located on a lectern in the front of the church, will be displayed this month for everyone to write the names of their deceased loved ones. We remember, we celebrate, we believe.

From the Desk of Fr. DeVille: Homily from October 22, 2017

This Gospel about paying taxes to Caesar is the first

of a set of three passages in which Matthew describes how hostile the religious leaders of his day were as they attempt to trap Jesus with trick questions. The Jewish authorities sought to trap Jesus in a religious-state dispute. The Jews resented their foreign rulers and despised paying taxes to the Romans.

After flattering Jesus they posed a dilemma to test Jesus to see if He was loyal to their understanding of religion. Jesus recognized their malicious intent. He asks the Pharisees for a Roman coin that was used to pay the tax. When they produce a coin with Caesar’s image on it, He says to them, “Then repay to Caesar what belongs to Caesar and to God what belongs to God.” Jesus avoids their trap by asking the Pharisees for a coin. Jesus then turns the judgment on the Pharisees. He shows they are the ones who are collaborating with Roman rule since they possess the Roman coin and are willing to use it. Coinage in the ancient world has significant meaning and political power. Rulers regarded coins with their im-age on it as their personal property. This story has another deeper meaning. Each of us has been stamped with God’s image since we are created in the image and likeness of God. Therefore, we rightfully belong, not to ourselves, but to God who created us and redeemed us with the precious blood of His Son, Our Lord Jesus Christ. Do we acknowledge that our life belongs to God and not to ourselves? Do we give to God what rightly belongs to Him? Or do we serve our own agenda? How serious is our dedication to leading our life in and for Christ?

Readings for Sunday, Nov. 5 First Reading -- Do we not have one father? Did not the one God create us? (Malachi 1:14b -- 2:2b, 8-10). Psalm -- In you, Lord, I have found my

peace (Psalm 131). Second Reading -- You have received not a human word but the word of God (1 Thessalonians 2:7b-9, 13). Gospel -- Call no one your father on earth; you have but one Father, the one in heaven (Matthew 23:1-12).

Our Knights of Columbus once again will serve as a fundraising group sponsor for the Wreaths Across America program at our National Cemetery of the Alleghenies. We participate as a 3 for 2 sponsor, this translates, if you purchase two wreaths at

$15 each, you receive a third wreath complimentary. We are hopeful that our wreath sponsorship will keep pace with the 13,000 burials at the cemetery. In the past two years, every veteran received a wreath. Wreath sponsorship forms and information are available in the vestibule of our church. Thank you and God bless you for remembering our departed veterans.

Clothing Drive—Knights of Columbus will sponsor their semi-annual family clothing drive on Saturday, Nov. 11 from 3 to 7 p.m. and on Sunday Nov. 12 from 8 a.m. until noon. The distribution of the clothing items will be handled by the Society of St. Vincent de Paul. All clothing is being collected in the basement of Rosary Hall. Thank you for your generosity. Knights of Columbus Christmas Season Fundraiser will begin on the weekend of Nov. 11 and 12, before and after all the liturgies in the New Hall. The items available are 1 lb. gift boxes of fudge, Sarris candy bars, religious Christmas cards, Nativity car magnets with the theme “Keep Christ in Christmas” and olive wood crosses. We are proud to offer our long standing price of $13 per pound on our fudge. As always, we look forward to seeing you at our fundraiser!
