“Pastor’s Weekend Message”
“The word of the Lord remains for ever. This is the word that has been proclaimed to you” 1 Peter 1:25 ‘Like the disciples, we turn to Jesus and say, “Increase our faith!” They have guessed correctly that faith is first of all a gift; a grace. No one conquers it, buys it or earns it. One can only implore the Lord who is both the gift and the giver. Without directly answering the disciples’ pray-er, Jesus turns to a paradoxical image which expresses the incredible vitality of faith. Like a level which lifts much more than its weight, a tiny grain of faith is capable of achieving the impossible. To become convinced of this and to take advantage of its power, one needs only to ex-amine what happened to Paul. Faith is, for him, unmerited participation in the very life of the risen Lord. “To me, ‘life’ means Christ!” (Phil 1:21). His whole person; body, mind and heart, is seized, transformed and lifted up, in such a way that he can live in the kingdom of God in the midst of the world.’ From St. Andrew Bible Missal. ‘Del mismo modo que los discípulos, nosotros giramos hacia Jesús y le decimos, “¡Aumenta nuestra fe!” Ellos atinaron correctamente al afirmar primero que la fe es un don, una gracia. Nadie la conquista, la compra, o se la gana. Solo uno implora al Señor, quien es el regalo y da-dor de la misma. En Evangelio, sin directamente contes-tándoles la oración de los discípulos, Jesús dijere una imagen paradoja que expresa la increíble vitalidad de la fe. Como una vara metálica que levanta más que su propio peso, un pequeño grano de fe es capaz de obtener lo impo-sible. Para convencerse y tomar ventaja de este poder uno solo tiene que examinar la vida de San Pablo.
