A Message from the Principal
Our Vision With family, faith and friendship, we
grow share and live as authors of
our own learning.

Wednesday, 3 March 2016 —Term 1 Week 6
Pope Francis
“If I cannot forgive, I cannot ask forgiveness. Jesus
teaches us to pray like this to the Father: ‘Forgive
us our trespasses as we forgive those who
trespass against us.’
First Reconciliation
.
There's an old joke about a carpenter who went to
confession after he had been stealing lumber from
his job site. He confessed his sins, and the priest
said, “For your penance, make a novena.” The
carpenter replied, “I'm not quite sure what a
novena is, Father, but if you have the blueprints, I
have the lumber!”
As some of our students enter into the Sacrament
of Reconciliation this weekend, it offers us an
opportunity to describe what the sacrament is. On the
Jesuit website, http://www.loyolapress.com/ they
talk of the sacrament as being an,
‘examination of conscience that is the act of looking
prayerfully into our hearts to ask how we have hurt
our relationships with God and other people through
our thoughts, words, and actions’.
From that, they suggest some questions that we are
invited to consider:
In our relationship with God:
What steps am I taking to help me grow closer to
God and to others?
Do I turn to God often during the day, especially
when I am tempted?
Do I participate at Mass with attention and
devotion on Sundays and holy days?
Do I use God's name and the names of Jesus,
Mary, and the saints with love and reverence?
Like the Green Tree Frog, I grow and change.
Like the Bush Bee,
I can work with others and on my own to be successful.
Like the Eagle, I see what I
need to do to achieve my
goal and take responsibility.
Like the Crocodile,
I can overcome challenges and keep
going when things get
tough.
Like the Dolphin, I am free to
develop my own ideas and take
risks.
Like the Green Ant, I use what I know and
what others know to
build meaning.
Like the Tata Lizard I can become a learning detective, searching
for answers or clues to my own or
others questions.
Learning Power Project
In our relationships with family, friends, and
neighbours
Have I set a bad example through my words or
actions?
Do I treat others fairly?
Do I spread stories that hurt other people?
Am I loving of those in my family?
Am I respectful of my neighbours, my friends,
and those in authority?
Have I taken or damaged anything that did not
belong to me?
Have I cheated, copied homework, or lied?
Do I quarrel with others just so I can get my own
way?
Do I insult others to try to make them think they
are less than I am?
Do I hold grudges and try to hurt people who I
think have hurt me?
As our students and children from families across
Holy Family Parish participate in this sacrament for
the first time on Saturday, please keep them in your
prayers.

St John’s First Aid
St John’s ambulance visited Holy Family on
Monday. Classes attended sessions and learnt
when to call 000. St John’s also discussed how an
ambulance decides who gets priority when they
need to be called. Students discussed DRSABCD
= Danger, Response, Send for help, Airway, Breath-
ing, CPR and Defibrillator.
You may have also noticed on ClassDojo photos of
students bandaging each other. It was a terrific
session and one you might like to follow up with
your children at home, especially when 000 might
need to be called.
Thanks and God Bless,
Shane Donohue

Lost Property
There are currently a large number of water bot-
tles and lunch boxes without names in the lost
property box.
Please ask your child/ren to have a look and claim
any items that belong to them.
KidsMatter Primary
Emotions and self-concept Children’s emotions are not just a response to
things that happen. They are influenced by what
children think, especially by what they think about
themselves and their abilities. Children often need
support from parents and carers to manage their
feelings effectively, particularly when they are
young.
Showing that you understand and accept
children’s feelings is very important for supporting
their emotional development. When children feel
understood it is easier for them to learn to think
through their feelings and work out effective ways to
handle them.
Mobile Phones & Electronic Games Please hand all mobile phones and electronic
games into the office at the start of school; you
can collect them at the end of the school day.
NAPLAN
The National Assessment Program-Literacy and
Numeracy (NAPLAN) is an annual national
assessment of all students in Years 3,5,7 & 9.
All students are assessed in language conventions,
writing, reading and numeracy.
In 2016, the tests are scheduled for the mornings
of Tuesday May 10th, Wednesday May 11th and
Thursday May 12th. All students across Australia
complete the tests on the same day and all
students are expected to participate.
If you have any queries, concerns or wish to
withdraw your child from the testing please contact
Mandy Jones (Deputy Principal) at the school as
soon as possible.

AROUND THE SCHOOL...
Everyone has feelings. It takes time to learn how to manage them effectively
Learning to think through
emotional reactions
helps children find better
ways of managing them.
No Hat
Don’t forget your hats. If you do not bring your hat
to school you will have to play in the undercover
area.
School lunches
Please ensure that your child has their recess and
lunch each day. Please remember to keep your
child's recess separate to their lunch as their
lunch gets stored in the cool room at the canteen. If you are ordering lunch orders online, please also
ensure student details (room no etc.) are updated
so that the canteen orders go to the correct class.
Absent and Late Students
Thank you to all those students who sign in at the
office when coming to school late. We wish to
remind families that all students coming late to
school need to sign in at the office. Students
being collected early from school need to be
signed out at the front office too.
Please either ring or email the office in the event
that your child is sick or not attending school.
Parent Contact Numbers
It has been evident that not all of our parent
phone contact information is up to date. It is
imperative that the information we have is
correct when trying to contact parents. If you
have changed your home, work or mobile
number in the last 6 to 12 months , can you
please advise the office of your new details.
Thank you.
