What is the meaning of the Assumption of Mary?

As many of you know, I enjoy praying the Rosary. There are twenty different mysteries and for most of my years, the Assumption of Mary was my least favorite. Interestingly, my favorite mystery was the Coronation of Mary. I understood and valued Mary as my Queen but could not quite grasp what her Assumption meant for me. Until recently. Several months ago, I began reflecting upon the original fall of mankind and the words of God to the Serpent, "I will put enmity between you and the woman, between her offspring and yours." Enmity means a very deep hatred. And it is God who created (put) this deep hatred between the Serpent and the Woman. They despise one another and for good reason. He has never touched her, never influenced her. She remains completely free of his manipulations. Mary has a pure heart, and no poison has ever entered it. During her Assumption, Mary would have entered through the gate of

death as did her Son Jesus. The question often arose as to why Jesus and Mary died since 'death' is a penalty of sin. And neither of them sinned. So why would they have died? For the same reason that we find Jesus Christ entering into the waters of Baptism. Did Jesus need to be Baptized? Certainly not, but he never expected us to do something that he himself was unwilling to do. And the same would be with Mary. We follow them into Baptism, and we follow them into the Resurrection. This is the story of mankind. Many people speak of the body of Mary being the 'ark of the new covenant'. They say this because the original ark contained, the holy bread, the staff of the priesthood and the tablets of God's Word. The body of Mary contained all of these three things too when she conceived Jesus Christ in her womb. Jesus is the Bread of Life. Jesus is the high priest. Jesus is the Word of God. So therefore, Mary is an 'ark' that contained the New Covenant. There are two other characters in the Bible who were taken body and soul into Heaven: Enoch and Elijah. And with them, they never died. I have no explanation for that. But, if you believe that those two men could be taken into heaven body and soul, then you can believe that the Mother of God was also taken body and soul into Heaven. For this mystery, I imagine Mary being escorted by a small army of angels into Heaven. And it would be a glorious event. For the first time ever, their future Queen is arriving. And they have been waiting.

Our children Faith Formation is our parish’s primary mode of catechesis for children in grades Kindergarten through Eighth who attend public or non-Catholic private schools. We are eager to bring the love of our awesome God and a deeper knowledge of our Catholic faith to your children, while growing in the parish community.

August 15, 2021 Solemnity of the

Assumption of the Blessed Virgin

Mary

“For at the moment the sound of your

greeting reached my ears, the infant in

my womb leaped for joy.” – Luke 1:44

The Assumption

This weekend the Church celebrates the Solemnity of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary. We believe that when Mary’s earthly journey was complete, she was taken up body and soul into Heaven where she is Queen of Heaven and earth. This teaching is based on the reality that Mary was conceived without original sin, and therefore, was spared the corruption of sin and death. She was given the special honor of participating in the Resurrection of her Son, Jesus Christ. And through her participation in this resurrection and by her

prayers, she assists us who do suffer from the effects of original sin, to be with her and her Son in the joy of Heaven.

Our Gospel reading today from St. Luke is the account of the Visitation when Mary, having already conceived Jesus by the power of the Holy Spirit, traveled to the hill country to the town of Judah to visit Elizabeth, who was also with child. The encounter between them is a moment of joy! In fact, in the Gospel Elizabeth says, “For at the moment the sound of your greeting reached my ears, the infant in my womb leaped for joy.” And just as the presence of Our Lord at that moment was a cause for joy, so is each time we draw near to Jesus Christ, particularly when we receive His Body and Blood in the Eucharist.

Our prayer on this solemnity is that where Mary has gone, we also hope to be one day. And being our Mother and the Mother of God, she desires nothing more than us drawing close to her Son, Jesus Christ, and that we may be with Him for all eternity. Do we have the courage, like Mary, to follow Jesus in our lives through the good times as well as times of difficulty and adversity? And do we have the courage, like Mary, to bring the presence and joy of Jesus Christ to all those we encounter? .

Yo soy el pan de vida

Este fin de semana la Iglesia celebra la Solemnidad de la Asunción de la Santísima Virgen María. Creemos que cuando se completó el curso de su vida terrenal, María fue asunta en cuerpo y alma al cielo, donde habita como Reina del cielo y la tierra. Esta enseñanza se basa en la realidad de que María fue concebida sin pecado original, y por lo tanto, quedó libre de la corrupción del pecado y la muerte. Se le dio el honor especial de participar en la Resurrección de su Hijo Jesucristo. Y a través de su participación en esta Resurrección y por sus

oraciones, María nos ayuda a los que sufrimos de los efectos del pecado original, a vivir con ella y su Hijo en la alegría del cielo.

Nuestra lectura del Evangelio de hoy de san Lucas es el relato de la Visitación cuando María, habiendo ya concebido a Jesús por el poder del Espíritu Santo, viajó a un pueblo de las montañas de Judea para visitar a Isabel, que también esperaba un niño. ¡El encuentro entre ellos es un momento de gozo! De hecho, en el Evangelio Isabel dice: “Apenas llegó tu saludo a mis oídos, el niño saltó de gozo en mi seno”. Y así como la presencia de nuestro Señor en ese momento fue motivo de gozo, también lo es cada vez que nos acercamos a Jesucristo, particularmente cuando recibimos su Cuerpo y Sangre en la Eucaristía.

Nuestra oración en esta solemnidad es que también vayamos algún día a donde María ha ido. Y siendo nuestra Madre y la Madre de Dios, ella no desea algo más allá de acercarnos a su Hijo, Jesucristo, y que podamos estar con él por toda la eternidad. ¿Tenemos el valor como María de seguir a Jesús en nuestras vidas a través de los buenos tiempos, así como en los tiempos de dificultad y adversidad? ¿Y como María, tenemos el valor de llevar la presencia y el gozo de Jesucristo a todos aquellos que encontramos? Amén.

¿Cuál es el significado de la Asunción de María?

Como muchos de ustedes saben, disfruto rezando el Rosario. Hay veinte misterios diferentes y durante la mayor parte de mis años, la Asunción de María fue mi menos favorito. Curiosamente, mi misterio favorito fue la Coronación de María. Comprendí y valoré a María como mi Reina, pero no pude comprender lo que su Asunción significaba para mí. Hasta hace poco. Hace varios meses comencé a reflexionar sobre la caída original de la humanidad y las palabras de Dios a la Serpiente: "Pondré enemistad entre ti y la mujer, entre su descendencia y la tuya". La enemistad significa un odio muy profundo. Y es Dios quien creó (puso) este profundo odio entre la Serpiente y la Mujer. Se desprecian unos a otros y por una buena razón. Él nunca la ha tocado, nunca la ha influenciado. Ella permanece completamente libre de sus manipulaciones. María tiene un corazón puro y nunca ha entrado veneno en él.

Durante su Asunción, María habría entrado por la puerta de la muerte al igual que su Hijo Jesús. A menudo surgía la pregunta de por qué murieron Jesús y María, ya que la "muerte" es la pena del pecado. Y ninguno de ellos pecó. Entonces, ¿por qué habrían muerto? Por la misma razón que encontramos a Jesucristo entrando en las aguas del Bautismo. ¿Jesús necesitaba ser bautizado? Ciertamente no, pero nunca esperó que hiciéramos algo que él mismo no estaba dispuesto a hacer. Y lo mismo sería con Mary. Los seguimos al Bautismo y los seguimos a la Resurrección. Esta es la historia de la humanidad. Mucha gente habla del cuerpo de María como el "arca de la nueva alianza". Dicen esto porque el arca original contenía el pan santo, el bastón del sacerdocio y las tablas de la Palabra de Dios. El cuerpo de María también contenía estas tres cosas cuando concibió a Jesucristo en su vientre. Jesús es el pan de vida. Jesús es el sumo sacerdote. Jesús es la Palabra de Dios. Por tanto, María es un 'arca' que contenía la Nueva Alianza. Hay otros dos personajes en la Biblia que fueron llevados en cuerpo y alma al cielo: Enoc y Elías. Y con ellos, nunca murieron. No tengo explicación para eso. Pero, si crees que esos dos hombres podrían ser llevados al cielo en cuerpo y alma, entonces puedes creer que la Madre de Dios también fue llevada en cuerpo y alma al cielo. Para este misterio, imagino a María escoltada por un pequeño ejército de ángeles al cielo. Y sería un evento glorioso. Por primera vez, llega su futura reina. Y han estado esperando.

amigos quienes puedan servir a tu pueblo como religiosas, sacerdotes, diáconos y ministros laicos. Inspíranos mientras crecemos en tu amor y abre nuestros corazones para oír tu llamada. Te lo pedimos en nombre de Cristo.

Oración para Vivir Valientemente el Evangelio Dios todopoderoso y eterno, que por nuestro bautismo nos has llamado a vivir como discípulos misioneros de tu Hijo Jesucristo.

Concédenos a nosotros, tu pueblo de la Diócesis de St. Petersburg, cumplir nuestro propósito de proclamar la buena nueva e invitar a

todas las personas a encontrar el amor y la misericordia

de Jesucristo.

Aumenta nuestra confianza en ti, y ayúdanos a permanecer firmes en nuestro compromiso de vivir valientemente el Evangelio en

nuestros hogares y vecindarios, en nuestras comunidades parroquiales y a dondequiera que tú te dignes llevarnos.

Clases de Formación de Fe 2021-2022

La Formación de Fe, de nuestra parroquia es el modo principal de catequizar a los niños y jóvenes en los grados de Kínder a Octavo, que asisten a escuelas públicas o privadas no-católicas. Estamos ansiosos por llevar el amor de nuestro Dios maravilloso y un conocimiento más profundo de nuestra fe católica a sus hijos, mientras crecemos en la comunidad parroquial.

¡Esperamos ver a sus hijos nuevamente este año! La registración comenzara después de cada misa hasta Agosto 29, 2021.

Las clases son todos los Domingos de 11:10 a 12:15 de la mañana.
