Security Situation Update

• Rear Area Threat: – Iraqi surface to surface missile attacks still

possible, though short-range threat diminished

– Iraqi paramilitary activities north of Kuwaiti border

• NO GO Areas: Most of northern Kuwaiti border into Iraq

Security Situation Update

• KU and US military state traveling to Iraq entails risk– Close interaction with HOC prior to departure

is highly recommended to ensure receipt of the most recent security updates

• Vehicle travelers should take security precautions– Stay on prepared roads

• US government announces additional contributions to support aid in Iraq– $200M for 340,000 pounds of food– $20M for other NGO operations supporting

Iraqi relief

• Umm Qasr– Electricity fully restored– Water restored– All berths in the old and new ports are repaired– Lack of dredging has and will make operations

problematic– Local rail line is undamaged
