Security Situation Update

• Rear Area Threat: – Iraqi surface to surface missile attacks still

possible, though short-range threat diminished

– Iraqi paramilitary activities north of Kuwaiti border

• NO GO Areas: Most of northern Kuwaiti border into Iraq

Security Situation Update

• KU and US military state traveling to Iraq entails risk– Close interaction with HOC prior to departure

is highly recommended to ensure receipt of the most recent security updates

• Vehicle travelers should take security precautions– Stay on prepared roads

Central Highlights• Al Shawmali (SE of Al Hillah)

– Sufficient food and water (when pump running)– Water treatment plant in good condition

• Normal operator still working there• Regular power from Al Hillah intermittent• Generator available

– Can run for only one day– Causes pump to overheat

• Requested 30m 1/2inch diameter hose for cooling

– 4-bed clinic open 24 hrs• Has generator, need antibiotics, x-ray machine• Doctor: biggest risk is water quality related diseases
