Last year we opened our fantastic new building to house HSBC and we have received some wonderful feedback from them. I am also excited to introduce our internal rebrand - The Hive, the new name for our on-site community, including this magazine and a new intranet system coming later this year.

Finally, we have given the Office Park branding a makeover with a new logo, which you can see on page 12, and a new website coming soon. If you know anyone looking for office space we have some brilliant opportunities available. For more information please visit www.WhiteRoseOfficePark.co.uk

Would you like to shape up for your holiday or just live a healthier lifestyle?

10 Steps To A Healthier You This Spring…

1) Hydration

Between 50-75% of our body consists of water making it key that we stay hydrated throughout the day, especially with the weather starting to get warmer. Our body relies on water for a series of reasons such as cell life, chemical and metabolic reactions, transporting nutrients, regulating body temperature and removing waste from our system. We also dehydrate through exhalation and sweat. Increasing the importance of hydration during the spring and summer period. Males should aim to drink 3 litres of water per day, 2.2 litres for women.

2) Sleep

As daylight increases so does the temperature: This can play a big part on our ability to sleep and recover both mentally and physically. Affecting how we feel and how we perform. Sleep is a key factor as is getting the right amount. It has been suggested that Adults should be getting between 7-8 hours sleep per night. Studies have shown that any less or more than this can make it harder for one to lose weight. Connections have also been made between poor sleep and obesity. Stressing the importance of a good night’s sleep and sleeping pattern.

3) Never skip breakfast

Many people believe that skipping breakfast will result in them losing weight as a result of consuming less food. However, this is not true. When we sleep our body is still active, resulting in the food that we consume throughout the day to be broken down in order to provide the required energy. Breakfast allows for us to replenish these stores as well as fuelling our body for the day’s activity. Skipping it causes for our metabolism to slow, burning less calories. This can lead to weight gain. Why not grab your breakfast once you’ve arrived at work, The Hub serve a variety of breakfasts up until 10.30am.

4) Get your 5 a day

We’ve heard this all of our lives and we hear it for a reason. Recent research shows that only 1 in 7 of us consume 5 pieces of fruit or veg a day, but why? Fruit and vegetables are a great source of vitamins and minerals. Alongside a high source of fibre, key for maintaining a healthy gut and prevention of digestive issues. Also contributing greatly to a healthy and balanced diet. Whilst lowering the risk of obesity and other health problems. A variety of fruit is available from The Hub all day.

8) Avoid cravings, and find a healthy alternative Finding yourself hungry in-between meals or craving something sweet? Don’t sabotage your progress by cheating yourself and eating junk. Ask yourself if you’re hungry or just dehydrated, the feeling of hunger can be mistaken as dehydration. Make sure you’re eating enough at meal time. However, if you do find yourself hungry throughout the day why not try one of the healthy option snacks available at The Hub.

9) Switch your transport

Make the most of the weather this summer and swap the car for a healthier method of transport. Simply walking or biking from place to place is a great and simple way to stay in shape. This increase in activity can help not only strengthen your heart but also burn off that extra ice cream. Just one hour of moderate paced walking can burn up to 400 calories. Not only will this help you stay in shape but it’s also a great way to save money and help the environment. Why not cycle to work, and keep your bike safe in one of our many bike racks!

10) Set goals and track your progress With the nice weather people can find it easy to lose focus. Spending more time relaxing in the garden or at the beach and neglecting exercise. This could lead to putting on the weight which they worked so hard to lose. The use of goal setting can help motivate you and keep focused during the warmer months.

5) Ensure you’re eating enough

As the temperature increases people tend to eat less often or not as much. As mentioned before, eating less often can slow metabolism and lead to weight gain. This is not ideal when trying to slim down. Despite the weather it is important to consume the adequate amount of calories that your body requires for your fitness goals. Try to eat smaller meals frequently or a liquid based snack in between meals.

6) Alcohol consumption

With an increase in temperature social activities begin to occur in the forms of BBQ’s and trips to beer gardens. Don’t let alcohol get in the way of your healthy body. Eating before you drink will make you feel fuller and can reduce the need to drink. Pacing yourself is also another way to ensure you don’t consume too much. It is easy for many to forget that alcohol contains calories, making it easier to drink just as many as they eat. Be sensible with your consumption to avoid swapping that flat stomach for a big beer belly.

7) Reduce sugar intake

Simple steps can help to reduce your intake with options such as switching to a diet fizzy drink for instance or reducing how many teaspoons of sugar go in to your morning coffee. A high sugar intake can result in weight gain due to increased cravings and binge eating, potentially leading to more severe issues such as heart problems. Reducing sugar will aid weight loss.

DAY CARE

Twinkles White Rose opened its doors in September 2014, offering childcare to parents on site at the White Rose Office Park.

How did you first hear about Twinkles Nurseries?

Situated near the entrance to the site, in front of the O2 building, the nursery has been purpose built with an extensive outdoor area and fabulous resources to help the children’s growth and development. But don’t just take our word for it, we asked Emma, who is both one of our mums and works on site at the office park why she chose Twinkles Nursery to take care of her child…

Having Twinkles nursery on site has been great. A typical working day for us is getting up and ready and giving Chester his first breakfast before leaving the house at 7:40am. After dropping Chester’s sister, Ruby, off at breakfast club at school we then get to Twinkles at 8:30.  Chester always gets excited on the walk into nursery, as he now recognises the staff and surroundings.

Chester was originally in the “Baby Stars” room but has been in the “Rising Stars” room since January and enjoys this a lot due to the fact that it is a bigger space to play in now that he is walking. Chester generally takes a seat with his friend as they are usually still having breakfast, he gets his second breakfast of the day. He certainly enjoys the food that is cooked for him on a daily basis at Twinkles.

I first heard about Twinkles opening a nursery at White Rose Office Park whilst I was on maternity leave from HSBC. I had been advised by colleagues that this was due to open in September and this fitted in perfectly with my return to work so I registered my interest.

I knew that I would need to look at childcare options before returning to work.  Looking through the brochure and feedback from Twinkles I was happy to secure a place for Chester to start the opening week when I went back to work.  The communication prior to the start date was great and Chester had settling in visits so he could get used to the surroundings. The nursery stood out from others due to the fact that it was being purpose built, with a great outdoor space for the children to play in. As well as that it also was very convenient for me as it was on the site where my workplace is based.

How does having a nursery onsite benefit you as a working mum?

Interested in the Nursery?

How would you describe the level of care at Twinkles? The level of care at Twinkles is fantastic and whilst being at nursery Chester has noticeably developed and become more independent. He enjoys singing, looking at books and painting whilst at nursery. The staff are always happy to take time at the end of the day to tell us about Chester’s day and what he’s been up to. They also fill in his daily diary so we have a keepsake record. This is very much appreciated.

Chester has a healthy appetite and the menu at Twinkles is brilliant as he gets to try lots of different foods. This is something we are keen on so it’s great that he has so much choice.

Overall we are extremely happy with the service that Twinkles provides and we would strongly recommend it to other parents looking for a nursery.
