DLSU HISTORY DEPARTMENT ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR DR. ARLEIGH ROSS DELA CRUZ WON the 2016 Young Historian’s Prize for
his manuscript titled “Epizootics, Veterinary
Science and the Filipinos, 1899 to 1939.” The
award was given last year by the National
Commission for Culture and the Arts.
Dela Cruz’s winning manuscript focused on
the role of the veterinary science, Epizootics
in the development of health institutions in the
country, a section in historiography not usually
touched in the course of the study of history.
He graduated magna cum laude with a
Bachelor of Arts in the Social Sciences degree
at the University of the Philippines Manila.
He earned his MA in History from DLSU and
his Ph.D. in History from UP Diliman. His
researches focus on the history of the public
health sector and veterinary science.
TO CELEBRATE A BOUNTY OF LITERARY HARVEST IN 2017, THE HISTORY DEPARTMENT LAUNCHED THE LATEST BOOKS OF ITS FACULTY MEMBERS. The event, “Mandala: Tinipong Ani ng Kaguruan ng
Departamento ng Kasaysayan,” was held at the Henry Sy, Sr. Hall last December.
The titles, called in this order, were: 2017 National Book Award-winner To the People Sitting in the
Darkness and The Camino Real to Freedom (both UST Publishing House, 2016) by Dr. Jose Victor
Torres; Tulang Sakdal—Aral at Diwa ng Sakdalismo by Dr. Marlon Delupio (Komisyon sa Wikang Filipino,
2016); Mun-uduli: Ang Panday na Ifugao Bilang Tagapag-ingat ng Taal na Kaalaman (Cordillera Studies
Center of UP Baguio, 2016) by Dr. Lars Raymund Ubaldo; Liberalism and the Postcolony: Thinking the

The list of highly productive Filipino researchers in
the year 2016 included faculty members from UP
Diliman, UP Manila, and UST.
On the other hand, the list of highly productive
Filipino researchers of all time shows that the first
three ranks are DLSU faculty members.
As of November 30, 2017, the database reveals
that the all-time list of 20 most productive Filipino
researchers would be dominated by 7 DLSU and
7 UP Diliman faculty members.
The Top 3 Filipino researchers of all-time are
Dr. Raymond Tan with 249 published articles,
Dr. Consolacion Ragasa with 216, and Dr. Elmer
Dadios with 119.

RAMON V. DEL ROSARIO COLLEGE OF BUSINESS COLLEGE OF COMPUTER STUDIES GOKONGWEI COLLEGE OF ENGINEERING
A TEAM OF DLSU STUDENTS EMERGED as the champion in
the 2017 Inter-Collegiate Finance
Competition held at Bangko
Sentral ng Pilipinas last November
28.
The team was composed
of Bachelor of Science in
Accountancy seniors Rolando
Antonio Adrias, Josemaria
Alvaro Fontillas, and John Carlos
Guevarra, and Bachelor of Science
in Applied Economics Major in
Financial Economics and Bachelor
of Science in Accountancy fifth
year student Kaira Celina Ty.
Accountancy faculty member Perry
Carl Lim served as the team’s head
coach.
DLSU bested 21 teams from 20
Philippine schools and one foreign
university that participated in the
final round. This is the second
straight year that the University
bagged the championship.
DLSU received a team trophy,
medals, and P100,000.
Now on its 19th year, the Inter-
Collegiate Finance Competition
is organized by the Financial
Executives of the Philippines.
The competition covers the
Chartered Financial Analyst Level
1 Curriculum and the Certified
Management Accountant
Curriculum.
COLLEGE OF COMPUTER STUDIES FOURTH YEAR STUDENTS Leonardo Regalado,
Miguel Dungan, Jana Austria, and Karl Unabia won in this year’s GameOn, an
annual game development competition for students and professionals organized
by the Game Developers Association of the Philippines.
Their entry, entitled “War Tactics”, is a real-time multiplayer mobile game that uses
augmented reality. The award is the team’s second win in GameOn. Last year,
they won in the Innovation Award category.
The winners for GameOn 2017 were announced during the ICT Creative Award
last November 11 held at Samsung Hall of SM Aura in Taguig City.
DR. PILAR "LALAY" RAMOS-JIMENEZ JOINED
DLSU’s Behavioral Sciences Department
in 1983 and became actively engaged in
teaching, social research, and training. She
established a strong network with public,
private, and civil society organizations as well
as with international development partners.
Her legacy to the Behavioral Sciences
Department is the installation in 1995 of the
trans-disciplinary Health Social Science
(MaHeSoS) graduate program that integrates
gender and other social issues in health. She
facilitated Ford Foundation’s support for the
program, which benefited over 200 scholars
who are now serving in various local and
international institutions and agencies. She
retired from teaching in 2006.
As a DLSU Social Development Research
Center Fellow, Ramos-Jimenez conducted
and published a number of social research
studies, which she also presented in national
and international conferences and workshops.
Since 2012, she has served as consultant for
the UNFPA Indonesia and Philippine Country
Offices, the Commission on Population
(POPCOM), and the National Population
and Family Planning Development Board of
Indonesia.
Her network includes the Asia Pacific Network
of the International Forum for Social Sciences
in Health; WHO in Geneva; the Philippine
NGO Council on Population, Health, and
Welfare; UNFPA; and other UN units and
development groups. She has also worked
at Ford Foundation Indonesia and conducted
projects for DOST-Philippine Council for
Health Research and Development and
USAID.
She is currently involved in the five-year
program “South-South Cooperation
(SSC) Program between Indonesia and
the Philippines for FP, RH, and Gender
Mainstreaming,” aiming to share good
practices with the Autonomous Region in
Muslim Mindanao (ARMM). The collaborative
program runs until 2022.
At present, she is also advising a group of
indigenous women in her barangay and
engaging in small organic or natural farming in
upland Tanay.

LASALLIANS HIGHLIGHT DIVERSITY IN ASIA PACIFIC CONGRESSMORE THAN 170 YOUNG LASALLIANS FROM 10 COUNTRIES OF PACIFIC ASIA REGIONAL CONFERENCE (PARC) GATHERED for the 11th Asia
Pacific Lasallian Youth Congress
(APLYC11) last December 3-8 at
DLSU-Dasmariñas.
APLYC has been an avenue
for the youth in PARC to meet
and immerse with the cultures
of their fellow Lasallians in the
region. The program centered
on the theme “Lasallians
Without Limits,” to celebrate the
diversity of their experiences
that contribute to the Lasallian
Mission.
The program aimed to
(1) deepen the youth’s
understanding of the Lasallian
identity and spirituality as a
lived experience in the Asia
Pacific context, (2) appreciate
spirituality and its impact in
empowering persons to make
personal and societal changes,
(3) sensitize, understand, and
appreciate cultures, social
economic realities, and the
environment in the Asia Pacific
region, and (4) provide action-
oriented, education, training,
and formation opportunities to
young Lasallians so that they
become agents of change.
As part of the sessions of the
program, De La Salle University
(DLSU) through the Culture
and Arts Office, presented a
play through dance, music
and poetry on the Life of the
Founder.
At the end of the program,
delegates were tasked to create
initiatives and projects that
will contribute to the Lasallian
Mission. Francine Chan, Elan
Centeno, and Paul Trono were
the DLSU delegates.

A STUDENT FROM THE GOKONGWEI COLLEGE OF ENGINEERING GARNERED the top prize in the 2017
Magsaysay Future Engineer/Technologist (MFET)
Award held last December 14 at the Acacia Hotel
in Alabang.
Janne Pauline Ngo won for her research,
“Chemical Treatment of Waste Abaca for Natural
Fiber-Reinforced Geopolymer Composite”.
Dr. Michael Angelo Promentilla served as her
adviser.
Another student, Kyle Darryl Aguilar, received
a special citation for his study, “Bilevel Fuzzy
Optimization Model of an Algae-based Eco-
Industrial Park under Cooperative Game Theory”.
Dr. Aristotle Ubando served as his adviser.
There were 19 contestants for this year’s MFET
Award, with only five participants shortlisted
to make their presentation. The MFET is a
competition hosted by the National Academy of
Science and Technology under the Department of
Science and Technology.
