    A. Introduction

There is much confusion about what Hinduism is. On one hand there are

people who tend to argue that it is not a religion but just a way of life(whatever that means). On the other hand are the so-called Hindu zealotswho tend to equate Hinduism with almost anything and everything nationalism, non-violence, spiritualism, vegetarianism, cow protection, polytheism, Ayodhya temple, not celebrating Valentine Day, morning prayersand so on.

It is not surprising that in the midst of all the confusion, even a Hindu does notknow what his religion is all about or whether he has a religion at all.

The confusion is surely harmful for Hindu religion. But more important is the

fact that due to the confusion, the world is unable to benefit from the guidanceand support of a religious, philosophical, intellectual framework that has beena lighthouse for thousands of years to people across the globe.

Anil Chawla has been working actively for many years to promote a modernHindu Dhram based on the ancient texts. His understanding of Hinduismmoves beyond the Bhakti(devotional) movement of past five hundred yearsand is critical of the illusionism of Shankaracharya which looked at the worldas maya. His approach is practical, matter-of-fact and is rooted in everydaylife even though it is deeply philosophical. He brings an engineers analyticapproach to understanding of Hinduism.

In the workshop, Anil Chawla will help the participants understand Hinduismfrom a scientific philosophical perspective. His holistic methodology isdifferent from the analytic-mechanistic approach usually adopted by modernscience. Yet, the methodology is neither irrational nor based on spiritual other-world experiences. He seeks faith but does not ask one to put ones mind tosleep. He will challenge one to think and to redefine ones life in a manner thatmakes it more fulfilling, more enjoyable and more prosperous.

The workshop will change ones understanding of Hinduism. However, in caseone is not convinced and disagrees, Anil Chawla promises to acceptdisagreement with grace. He says I utter. You utter. Both of us hear. The

process of uttering and listening has changed both of us. Let us both go backhome and think. May be some time in future, you will accept some of what Isaid and I will accept some of what you said!

It is proposed to have a series of workshops. The first of the series was heldin Bhopal on 11th March 2012. About 20 persons attended the workshop.

    Prayer, Worship and Bhakti

Literal meaning of Bhakti feeling of being split from thecosmic reality or Brahm

Bhakti should make me a better part of the whole

Bhakti to seek selfish goals is wrong Example of Bhim

    and Hanuman

    Prayer can get temporary overdrafts

The purpose of prayer should always be (a) to inspireme to give up my ahamkar (b) to realize that more canbe achieved by becoming a part of the whole (c) tostrengthen my faith in Trividhan and (d) to push me tostick to the path of Trivarg
