Wk 5 (Feb 18) – Street Photography. We will look at a range of great street-photography images and discuss the best techniques to capture similarly effective urban photographs. Wk 6 (Feb 25) – Photoshop – Introduction to Layer Masks. How to non-destructively manipulate and adjust your images and add controllable and infinitely variable effects. Wk 7 (Mar 3) – City Breaks – Capturing great Interior & Exterior Architectural Images during your weekend away. We will also judge the Fauna & Flora Competition. Wk 8 (Mar 10) – Review of term’s photographs and social. PhotOx members show their best (and worst) images for constructive feedback. To become a member of the PhotOx Photography Society just email: [email protected] Please contact David using your University email account and put PhotOx in the subject box. David has set up the PhotOx Photography Society to provide a friendly, creative environment, where Oxford University staff and students passionate about digital (or film) photography will receive inspiration, technical advice, and constructive feedback on their images. Sessions will continue in Trinity term. During the classroom sessions, you are encouraged to bring in (on a mac-formatted data stick) 1-2 images each week (or send in via email/Dropbox – by 6.00pm on the Wednesday night before the class). These will be projected on the lecture theatre screen and discussed during the class by David and the PhotOx group. Whether you have a Nikon or Canon DSLR; a mirror-less M4/3; a point-and-shoot camera, or just an iPhone – you will learn how to compose, expose, and capture better images. This is an excellent opportunity for you to improve your photography and to develop professional skills. A different theme will be covered each week on topics chosen by PhotOx Society members. We also usually continue our discussion of photography in a local pub after each class – your chance to meet other University staff/students passionate about photography. There will be two competitions during the term. The themes are Fashion (judged during the week 3 class) and Fauna & Flora (judged during the week 7 class). Members are encouraged to interpret the theme(s) as creatively as possible. PhotOx-on-Tour There will be the option to join a PhotOx-on-Tour for an intensive weekend of photography. The aim is to schedule one UK trip and one in Europe. If there is enough interest, I will also run the successful and very popular Backstage in Berlin trip again during the Easter break. If you know any friends or work-colleagues that might be interested in the PhotOx Photography Society, then please forward them these details.
