Against you, you only, have I sinned and done what is evil in your sight, so that you are proved right when you speak and justified when you judge. Surely I was sinful at birth, sinful from the time my mother conceived me. Surely you desire truth in the inner parts; you teach me wisdom in the inmost place. Cleanse me with hyssop, and I will be clean; wash me, and I will be whiter than snow. Let me hear joy and gladness; let the bones you have crushed rejoice. Hide your face from my sins and blot out all my iniquity. Create in me a pure heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me. Do not cast me from your presence or take your Holy Spirit from me. Restore to me the joy of your salvation and grant me a willing spirit, to sustain me. Then I will teach transgressors your ways, and sinners will turn back to you. Save me from bloodguilt, O God, the God who saves me, and my tongue will sing of your righteousness. O Lord, open my lips, and my mouth will declare your praise. You do not delight in sacrifice, or I would bring it; you do not take pleasure in burnt offerings. The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit; a broken and contrite heart, O God, you will not despise. In your good pleasure make Zion prosper; build up the walls of Jerusalem. Then there will be righteous sacrifices, whole burnt offerings to delight you; then bulls will be offered on your altar. The mercy of the Lord is beyond our measure, often beyond reason, beyond anything we could expect. And yet…. Steve

From the Pastor September 22, 2013

Psalm 51 Have mercy on me, O God, according to your unfailing love;

According to your great compassion blot out my transgressions.

Wash away all my iniquity and cleanse me from my sin. For I know my transgressions, and my sin is always before me.

Cleanse me with hyssop, and I will be clean; wash me, and I will be whiter than

snow.

O Lord, open my lips, and my mouth will declare your

praise.

You do not delight in sacrifice, or I would bring it; you do not take pleasure in

burnt offerings. The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit; a broken and contrite heart, O God, you will not despise.

In your good pleasure make Zion prosper;

build up the walls of Jerusalem.

Then there will be righteous sacrifices, whole burnt offerings to delight you; then bulls will

be offered on your altar.

The mercy of the Lord is beyond our measure, often beyond reason, beyond anything we could expect. And yet….

Steve

2013 Peacemaking Offering

World Communion Sunday October 6, 2013

The Peacemaking Offering supports the peacemaking efforts of the church at every governing body level and provides an opportunity to witness to God's gift of peace in the world. Gifts given to the Peacemaking Offering through a congregation are divided in the following manner - twenty-five percent retained by congregations for support of their own peacemaking ministry; 25 percent used to support presbytery and synod peacemaking efforts; and 50 percent forwarded to the Presbyterian Peacemaking Program of the Presbyterian Mission Agency so that it can continue to provide assistance and resources for congregations and other bodies of the PC(USA)

Preventing Gun Violence How will my donation help? In the midst of challenge and adversity, we’re called to help by giving hope. The GATE Program, based in Miami-Dade county, Florida, is supported, in part, by funds given to the Peacemaking Offering. Your contributions, when combined with the gifts of all PC (USA) members, will help young boys struggling to rise above a culture of violence.

Nurse Mimi Sutherland felt anger and frustration as she was treating increasingly younger victims of gunshot wounds. In 1999, Mimi decided to take preventative action.

With the GATE Program, she created a new approach to ending violence – targeting male non-violent, juvenile weapons offenders. In a hospital setting, youth experience first-hand the consequences of violent acts on pediatric victims and their families. It’s working tremendously, making a positive impact on the lives of more than 600 young people.

Riviera Presbyterian Church (RPC) has stepped up to support their efforts – hosting graduations, providing mentorships and getting participants actively involved in church events. Together, they focus on positive strategies to improve behaviors.

Please give generously to the Peacemaking Offering to help foster programs like GATE. By keeping 25 percent of gifts, your congregation is encouraged to find new ways to offer peace at all times in all ways in your community.

To give, visit presbyterianmission.org/give/peacemaking-offering. Text PEACE to 20222 to give $10.

To the Congregation:

One of the wonderful ministries of our congregation is our Good Samaritan Fund that goes to help families in our congregation in need. We have been helping families in many different ways and now the fund needs some replenishing. If you could put a few extra dollars in the plate to help it would be appreciated and used for a good purpose. Thanks Steve Rhodes
