I am the Regional Director of TEFL lnternational's Latin America-based TESOL

certification programs.

Ms. Heidi Howland was hired in June of 2009 on a one-year contract as one of two

Teacher Trainers for our location in Costa Rica. Within three months of employment

she was promoted to become the highest paid Academic Director in the history of

TEFL lnternational Latin America.

We had high expectations of Ms. Howland before she arrived based upon the

extensive achievements that span a relatively compact period of time as detailed in

her resume. lt was apparent that she was a highly motivated and driven individual.

Suffice to say; we have since redefined our concepts of high expectations as they

relate to Ms. Howland.

Ms. Howland embodies the poised, professional educator in the most delightful of

ways. She commands admiration from her students and peers by virtue of her

teaching expertise and the extensive knowledge that she communicates so

eloquently. Her sincere empathy for her students and an appreciation for their

different learning styles make her a popular and respected educator. Ms. Howland

has a passion for good teaching that she is eager to share.

Her commitment has led to a series of improvements to our program. The

development of the grammar segments of our course is a good example.

Historically, grammar was consistently mentioned as amongst the least favorite

segment of the course prior to her arrival. The contemporary grammar components

consistently garner positive feedback every month. She further developed a new

grammar input that specifically addresses how to teach grammar to one's ESL^r--i---t^ nL- rL:..r--

While we will be sad to lose her I must admit that we feelfortunate to have had theopportunity to work with her at all! Her contributions have been profound and her

improvements will be long lasting. As someone who has come to admire her

immensely as a professional, I realize that her potential far exceeds the limitations ofher current position. \Mth that in mind, I recommend Ms. Howland to your

organization with the highest recommendation I can give. lt is rare that I canrecommend someone with such confidence but this is a rare case indeed. I can
