DID WE MISS YOU??

We are excited to announce the Healthy Beginnings is celebrating its 20th year of serving

Central Oregon’s children and families by offering FREE health screenings to children from

zero to 6 years of age. How do we plan on celebrating? First, by THANKING all our

supporters (those mentioned above...as well as many many more throughout the last 20

years!!) Secondly, we plan to continue offering the same quality health screenings

throughout this year to reach our goal of screening over 9000 children.

A Bear-Hug Testimonial

A concerned mom saw a 21 Cares for Kids ad on KTVZ (the local NBC affiliate) and knew she had to bring her

daughter to our screening. Mom had just rescued the small family from a domestic violence situation and was

concerned about how her daughter was doing. At the screening, the child was assessed with our 12-point kid

inspection and concerns were found in multiple health and developmental areas. Mom had an opportunity to chat

with specialists regarding the needs of her child and family, and at checkout mom left with referrals for vision,

dental, behavior, speech, motor skills, health and nutrition. Any mother, faced with this many referrals might be

challenged to connect with all services needed but this mother followed through on all referrals. This sweet little

girl now has services from Early Childhood Special Education, WIC, has received a vision

exam, and now has a primary medical home thanks to information and support from

Healthy Beginnings.

Healthy Beginnings’ 1st Annual Early Childhood Resource Fair

On April 19th, held at St. Charles Conference Center, over 35 preschools, vendors and non-profit

organizations came together for the benefit of the parent of the young child. Parents of

Bend came with their children to enjoy fun activities at each table and to discuss

important information to help them raise healthy happy families. This event also gave

Healthy Beginnings a wonderful opportunity to begin a partnership with local preschools by launching a new

4 b4 5 custom onsite health & development screening catered to preschools. At this event, Healthy

Beginnings’ experts were able to screen over 25 children in the areas of vision, hearing, developmental and

behavior. Over $4000 was raised to help Healthy Beginnings continue its mission of serving families and

children in our communities.

We LOVE our Volunteers! Healthy Beginnings celebrated our Volunteers

at our annual Volunteer Appreciation Party on

April 10th. An excellent turnout of dedicated

volunteers came to enjoy a free lunch provided

by the staff at Healthy Beginnings.

Congratulations Kerry Zenich who was voted

Healthy Beginnings’ Volunteer of the Year.

Kerry was presented with beautiful flowers and

a gift certificate to a Hola.

Healthy Beginnings is always looking for more volunteers. Please contact our

office at 541-383-6357 if you’re interested in joining our team of volunteers.

STAMPS of APPROVAL

A Great Success! On March 8th, Healthy Beginnings hosted

its 12th Annual Grin & Bear It Run and

Family Fun Run at the Les Schwab

Amphitheater. Over 300 runners showed up

for both a 5k & 10k run/walk. Families

enjoyed a ‘fun run’ as well. Individual

competitive runners came out in droves. We

also had corporate teams organized by

companies like Mosaic Medical and

Bluefish who got into a friendly competition

spirit. There were several community teams

that came together to share their enthusiasm

for healthy lifestyles. The weather seemed

to cooperate with a welcomed dry but cool

day, which the runners seemed to

appreciate. Thank you to our many

sponsors. Without them, this event would

not have been possible. Healthy Beginnings

raised over $21,000 to go directly towards

our mission of screening children

throughout Central Oregon.

A Free Scoop of Ice Cream =

$$ for Healthy Beginnings

A HUGE Thank you to Ben & Jerry’s Ice Cream for hosting yet another

successful FREE CONE DAY to benefit Healthy Beginnings.

Of course, we must thank Mother Nature as well bringing us

70 degree weather on that same day. (she was a big help).

Over 4600 scoops of ice cream were served on April 8th to ice

cream lovers of all ages. With that, our generous community

donated nearly $1600 to Healthy Beginnings. THANK YOU to

Central Oregon families for your generous donations allowing

Healthy Beginnings to continue serving you and your families by

screening your young children.
