how the resurrection changed everything

Easter Sunday, April 20, 2014 Pastor Glenn Gunderson

I Don’t Have to Live With Guilt and Shame!Romans 4:25He was handed over to die because of our sins, and he was raised to life to make us right with God.

I Don’t Have to Fear Death Anymore!2 Peter 1:16 For we did not follow cleverly devised stories when we told you about the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ in power, but we were eyewitnesses of his majesty.

Acts 1:3 After his suffering, he presented himself to them and gave many convincing proofs that he was alive. He appeared to them over a period of forty days and spoke about the kingdom of God.

1 Corinthians 15:3-8 I passed on to you what was most important and what had also been passed on to me. Christ died for our sins, just as the Scriptures said. 4 He was buried, and he was raised from the dead on the third day, just as the Scriptures said. 5 He was seen by Peter and then by the Twelve. 6 After that, he was seen by more than 500 of his followers at one time, most of whom are still alive, though some have died. 7 Then he was seen by James and later by all the apostles. 8 Last of all … I also saw him.

I’m Unconditionally Loved by God!John 3:16-17 For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. 17 For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him.

John 13:34-35So now I am giving you a new commandment: Love each other. Just as I have loved you, you should love each other. 35 Your love for one another will prove to the world that you are my disciples.”

1 John 3:11 This is the message you have heard from the beginning: We should love one another.

what’s so good about the Good News?

4

Matthew 28:18-20Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. 19 Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”

Colossians 2:12For you were buried with Christ when you were baptized. And with him you were raised to new life because you trusted the mighty power of God, who raised Christ from the dead.

I Can Live a Life of Purpose and Meaning!Finding purpose in Christ, in community, for the journey.

Mark 8:35 If you insist on saving your life, you will lose it. Only those who throw away their lives for my sake and for the sake of the Good News will ever know what it means to really live.

2 Corinthians 4:17-18 These troubles and sufferings of ours are, after all, quite small and won’t last very long. Yet this short time of distress will result in God’s richest blessing upon us forever and ever! 18 So we do not look at what we can see right now, the troubles all around us, but we look forward to the joys in heaven which we have not yet seen. The troubles will soon be over, but the joys to come will last forever.

Philippians 1:21For to me, living means living for Christ, and dying is even better.

I Can Be Certain I’m Going to Heaven!1 Peter 1:4… and we have a priceless inheritance—an inheritance that is kept in heaven for you, pure and undefiled, beyond the reach of change and decay.

1 Corinthians 2:9 “No eye has seen, no ear has heard, and no mind has imagined what God has prepared for those who love him.”

YES to Jesus! If you made a commitment to follow Jesus today, we are so thrilled for you! We want to encourage you any way we can.

Please stop by our YES to JESuS! table outside either Grandstand entrance so we can celebrate with you and give you a free “Unwrap Your Gift” packet with resources and a note from Pastor Glenn to help you go forward in your new life with Jesus.

We will have people available there to answer questions, pray with you, and encourage you!

how to become a follower of Jesus > 3 simple steps

1. Admit your condition before God ... For all have sinned and fall

short of the glory of God. Romans 3:23

2. Believe that Jesus Christ is God’s only solution to your condition …

For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord. Romans 6:23

3. Choose to follow Christ as your Savior and Lord ...

“I tell you, whoever hears my word and believes him who sent me has eternal life and will not be judged; but has crossed over from death to life.” John 5:24

Dear God, thank You for sending Your Son, Jesus Christ, to earth. I believe Jesus was who He said He was and proved it by rising from death. I want to discover and begin following Your plan and purpose for my life. I want to get to know You personally. Thank You, Jesus Christ, for dying for me and forgiving all my sins. I receive You as my Lord and Savior. Thank You for Your free gift of eternal life.

BAPTISMstoday!

If you have chosen to become a follower of Jesus, today or many years ago, Jesus asks you to express your commitment to Him by being baptized. We would be excited to baptize you as soon as you are ready! And if you are ready today we are going to be having baptisms at the end of both of our Fairplex services. During the service, Pastor Glenn will instruct you where to go to meet with a pastor to get prepared to be baptized. We have baptism t-shirts and towels for everyone.

That’s what The Story is all about—the story of the Bible. The Story is a book that uses the accounts, poems, and teachings, straight from the Bible and arranges them in chronological order to read like a novel. Through The Story, many people of all ages are reading and understanding the Bible for the first time. You may pick up a copy of The Story after any PFB/Purpose service.
