    The Higher Colleges o Technology oers one o UAEs largest selections o Inormation Technologyprograms. Students study Diploma, Higher Diploma and Bachelor Degree courses using up-to-the-minute technology, sotware and industry techniques.

    IT Division Program Goals

    Goal 1: GenericGraduates o the program will have the knowledge, skills and attributes to solve real world problems usingtechnology.

    Goal 2: Intellectual/ cognitive skillsGraduates o the program will be able to use analytical problem solving, decision making, and critical thinkingskills by utilizing inormation technology in various felds

    IT Division Program Requirements

    Program Entry Requirements: See Academic Framework Minimum Admission Requirements (p. 27)

    HD Exit Pathway: A student can elect to complete the HD Exit pathway (with or without a major) at thecommencement o Semester 6 o the program. To graduate with a Higher Diploma in Inormation Technology(with or without a major) the student must complete a total o 144 credits and IELTS Academic Module with anoverall IELTS band o 5.5 with no skill level below 5.0.

    Bachelor of Science Requirement:To graduate with a Bachelor o Science in Inormation Technology (withor without a Program Major) the student must complete a total o 192 credits.

    The Mission:The mission o the Bachelor o AppliedScience in Inormation Management program is to edu-cate Higher Diploma graduates who are nationals othe United Arab Emirates in advanced skills, knowledgeand practice o inormation technology in order to pre-pare them as IT specialists with ocus on ofce andinormation systems. The program will promote Englishcommunication, leadership, teamwork, critical thinking,and problem solving so that graduates can work eec-tively as IT specialists in an international environmentwith the adaptability to respond to opportunities in the

    rapidly evolving feld o inormation and communica-tion technologies.

    Program Entry Requirements: Higher Diplomain any Inormation Technology concentration in addi-tion to ulflling the admission criteria or HCT Bachelorprograms.

    Program Regulations: It is suggested that candi-dates meet with a counselor to discuss academic, per-sonal and proessional issues related to this program,and also be interviewed by a college panel to deter-mine their suitability or the program.

    Prior to entry into this Bachelor o Applied Scienceprogram, it is recommended that students who gradu-ated three or more years ago rom their Higher Diplo-ma program have their core technology skills assessedto ensure they are still current in the rapidly evolvinginormation technology feld.

    Courses used to ulfll credit requirements at the HigherDiploma level cannot be used again to ulfll gradua-tion requirements or this program. A student who hascompleted a core course at the Higher Diploma levelmust complete an additional option to meet the totalprogram credit requirement to graduate.

    The Mission: The mission o the Diploma in Inor-mation Technology is to produce entry-level techni-cians who have basic technical skills in inormationmanagement, networking, and web technologies. Thesetechnicians will be able to identiy, analyze and solveproblems and successully complete basic projects re-quiring the deployment o inormation technologies.

    There will be opportunities or concentrations in Net-working, Ofce Administration, PC Support, and WebDevelopment. In this program, students will use Englishto communicate verbally and in writing on a variety o

    Students may register in a course only ater successulcompletion o all courses in the Higher DiplomaFoundations Year that are pre-requisites to coursesin Higher Diploma Year one, and must satisy all thecriteria or progression under the Higher DiplomaFoundations Progressions Policy.

    Program Regulations: At least 32 credits o300-level courses (e.g ITEC N374, ENGL N340, WORKN395) are required or graduation.

    Students do not need to have a major to be awardeda Higher Diploma in Inormation Technology. I thestudent completes the required courses or a major,a notation speciying the major will be shown on thestudents transcript. I a student completes the requiredcourses or more than one major, the transcript notationwill show only one major.
