 “No greater love has any man than this,that a man would lay down his life forhis friends” ~ Jesus (John 15:13).

 “Those false teachers” St. Paul is speaking of (above) had been visiting the newChristian churches in Galatia; churches St. Paul himself had recently founded, having

brought the gospel (the good news) to the peoples of Galatia (to the Jews first, then tothe Gentile). “Those false teachers” had brought a very deceptive teaching into theyoung churches; a poisonous doctrinal mixture of the LIBERATING Gospel of Grace,which comes to us (Jews and Gentiles) only through God’s own Son: Jesus Christ, whichhad been (deceptively) mixed together with the CONDEMNING Law of Moses, whichnullified for them the gospel of grace, mercy, and forgiveness.

St. Paul had proclaimed the good news of love, mercy, hope, and forgiveness to theJews at the synagogues in Galatia and many of them had believed in Jesus Christ, who,as St Paul proclaimed, was the promised and long-awaited Messiah of God, which wasspoken of by Moses and the Prophets, and was, in fact, the fulfillment of the Law and

the Prophets: “Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I havenot come to abolish them but to fulfill them” (Matthew. 5:17).

 “Those false teachers”, who were so eager to win the favor of the (new) Christian Jewsin Galatia, had followed on hot-on-the-heals of St. Paul, once he had left Galatia. Afterhaving established new Christian churches there, teaching in the Jewish synagogues, StPaul moved on to take the Gospel into other places. “Those false teachers”, once St.

Paul had left Galatia, moved in with their false teachings of keeping the Law of Moses,in every minute detail, seeking to establish their own righteousness, commingling withthe Gospel of Grace, which was not-at-all the same, liberating good news St Paul hadproclaimed to the Jews in Galatia. It was, in fact: a perversion of the gospel.

 “I am astonished that you [Galatians] are so quickly deserting him [God] who called youin the grace of Christ and are turning to a different gospel—not that there is anotherone, but there are some who trouble you and want to distort the gospel of Christ. Buteven if we or an angel from heaven should preach to you a gospel contrary to the onewe preached to you, let him be accursed. As we have said before, so now I say again:If anyone is preaching to you a gospel contrary to the one you received, let him beaccursed” (Galatians 1:6-9).

This “different gospel”, which St Paul was speaking of (above) is not a gospel (i.e., goodnews), was a distortion of the gospel of Christ, and St Paul proclaimed a curse upon

 “those false teachers”, who had crept into the synagogues of Galatia and were putting

God to the test by placing a yoke upon the necks of the new Jewish Christians, whichneither their fathers nor they were able to bear. This, as St. Paul told them, is contraryto the message he had proclaimed to them: “that we will be saved through the grace of the Lord Jesus” (see also: Acts 15:1-21).

 “Those false teachers” were (and are, today, in America) known as Judaizers (Greek:Ioudaizo, meaning: to adopt Jewish customs; see: Galatians 2:14) and were “a party of Jewish ‘Christians ‘ in the Early Church, who taught that circumcision and theobservance of the Mosaic Law were necessary for salvation and in consequence wishedto impose them on the Gentile converts, or who at least considered them as stillobligatory on the Jewish Christians” (see: here).

St. Paul wrote to the Jewish Christians in Galatia (which is why we have his letter)today, in order to explain to them the error of “those false teachers” who wereattempting to place the old yoke of the Law of Moses upon these new Christians, notlong after St. Paul had left Galatia, explaining to them: “We ourselves are Jews by birthand not Gentile sinners; yet we know that a person is not justified by works of the lawbut through faith in Jesus Christ, so we also have believed in Christ Jesus, in order to be

 justified by faith in Christ and not by works of the law, because by works of the law noone will be justified.” (Galatians 2:15-16).

 “By works of the law no one will be justified.” THIS was St. Paul’s gospel message,concerning the Law of Moses to the Jewish Christians in Galatia. “Those false teachers”,the Judaizers, were teaching the Galatians they were justified, or made right with God,by the works of the Law of Moses, and not by faith in Jesus Christ.

 Although many might imagine the false teachings of the Judaizers of St. Paul’s day longdead and forgotten, this is not at all the case. “Those false teachers” and their falseteachings, which are contrary to God and the Gospel of Grace in Jesus Christ, are alive

and well today in the form of what is known as Judaized “Christianity” , or: “Christian” Zionism.
