President’s Message November

The November meeting is election night for 2020 club officers. I hope you will make an effort to attend, but if that isn’t possible, please mail in your ballot. Our elec-tions aren’t usually hotly contested, but your participation is appreciated. We have a great slate of candidates with several officers continuing and will work to build on this year’s efforts.

Looking forward to our December holiday party, we have several awards to present. Please let me know if you have suggestions for Outstanding Member or Best in Tow. This will be the first year for the most active member award. Be sure to get your points in to Keith. The club is again supporting the price of this evening so get your paid reservation in early and bring some extra cash for the al-ways awesome raffle items.

Had a wonderful time on Keith & Ursula’s favorite tour. The weather was perfect giving us a very clear view of Mt. St. Helen’s at the McClellan Viewpoint (photos on the website). A field of 20+ cars, mostly MGs with a few others, and one of the newer car drivers was impressed with the speed and handling of the MGs on the twisty road. Great after tour eats at the Backwoods Brewery and lots of conversation about the day. A carefree drive for everyone with no mechanical incidents!

We’re looking for new things to do with our cars in 2020. If you have any ideas for new events or places we haven’t been, contact me or Peggy. We’re working on an official survey for input so when you get a fabulous idea, write it down so you don’t forget it like I do!

Make plans to join us for the Veteran’s Day tour with the Crowleys. Estacada puts on a very nice parade and me-morial (rain or shine) and Cynthia provides the lunch! See you there!

Safety Fast!

John Dutra — 503.786.0851 — [email protected]

North American MGB Register By Ed Mullowney

The North American MGB Register (NAMGBR) is an international MG car club serving the needs of MGB, MGC, MG Midget, MG 1100/1300 and Post Abingdon MG owners. Individual members of NAMGBR can take ad-vantage of the following:

Receive a copy of The MG Driver magazine which is published six times per year

A 5% discount on a new auto insurance policy from Hagerty Insurance. If you are already a Hagerty Insur-ance customer you will be able to get a 5% discount on your next renewal

A copy of the Mutual Aid Directory which provides contact information for fellow NAMGBR members spread out across the country who will point you in the right direction and help if you are traveling outside of your home area. This directory also includes a list of service shops recommended by NAMGBR.

One benefit the Columbia Gorge MG Club receives by being a NAMGBR Affiliate Club in good standing is the liability insurance coverage that is available at no addition-al cost. This insurance covers the Club, its officers, and each Club member individually against damage claims re-sulting from a club event or activity. One requirement to maintain this good standing is to have a minimum of eight (8) club members who are also NAMGBR members. Fol-lowing is the latest available list of Columbia Gorge MG Club members who are also NAMGBR members:

George Wiggins Glen Enright Michael Layman Ed Mullowney Robert Madaris Russell Sherrell Tom Ekstrand Ken Shelby Gary Eddings John Dutra Doug Foster Tom Stose

Joining NAMGBR is easy. There is an ad (see page 2) in the Club Newsletter each month that gives all necessary contact information.

We welcome stories of where you have been with your car, or what you are working on fixing at the moment.

Bring an item for the raffle at the end. Proceeds go to expand and improve the Christmas Party Raffle.

Join us! It is the members that make the meetings lively

Pub Night—Nov 26

The last Tuesday of every month, we gather at a pub for food, beverage, and fellowship. The location changes throughout the area so there will be one near you sometime. This is a great way for members to get to know each other better.

The November Pub Night (last Tuesday of the month) is at Park City Pub, 8025 NE Sandy Blvd, Portland, OR 97213.

November Activities Clinic—Nov 30—You Won’t Believe!!!

This year our cars got a little older and some new prob-lems are starting to appear. Some have been quite surpris-ing, some we have never seen before and others have been a real problem to find and fix.

This month we take out the boxes with this broken stuff we sometimes can't believe exist that we have found this year and in years past. The object of this clinic is to share what we have found and come up with methods to hopeful-ly stop these things happening to you and your car.

One area of interest is the many new parts that haven't been available are available today. Many of these new parts are of good quality and some we can't recommend. Keith has been experimenting with some new products this year, most have been great additions to his car, some can't be recommended.

Clincs go on rain or shine but cancelled if snow or ice. Pizza and conversations from Noon to One (thank you Hagerty Insurance), Clinic from One to Three. Bring some-thing to drink and a desert to share if you can. Overflow parking across 189th Street from driveway and walk down.

Where: Keith and Ursula’s shop, (FPP). 19900 NE 189th Street, Brush Prairie, Washington. Approximately 10 miles north of Portland.

From North on I205 take Padden Parkway West. Fol-low the road as it changes names and eventually gets you to the village of Hockinson. One mile after Hockinson.

Right on 184th Street (Signs to Alderbrook). Go one mile (Left at top of hill, Sweeps right, changes names again).

Left First Chance after Mountain Meadows (Sign on Right) down the Driveway.

Overflow parking across from driveway at the purple house, through the gate. Be careful not to block owners cars.

ABFM 2020 Update By Ed Mullowney and Ken Shelby

As of this writing we are still awaiting the final financial results of ABFM 2019. Hopefully we will have a follow-up meeting soon.

For ABFM 2020 the feature Mark will be "MG"! This will be an opportunity to showcase our cars and put on a show that all attendees will enjoy. While Ken and I will again work to coordinate the overall ABFM event, we are looking for assistance from Club mem-bers with developing the MG focus part of the show. Please contact either Ken Shelby or myself and let us know that you wish to become more involved in put-ting the AGFM event together. One direction we want to go is to get all three area MG Clubs (CGMGC; Club T; & the Willamette Club) working together to plan for the MG field presentation.

Christmas Party Raffle and Auction By Peggy Oliver and Sue Stose

Sue and I are getting ready for our December 14th Christmas party auction and raffle. We need your help. Some of the items we purchase with Gorge funds, but the majority are items donated by you, our members. We have had many creative and generous items from you in the past and hope to carry on the tradition this year. We are looking for items for our raffle (under $25), silent auction ($25-$200) and oral auction (over $200).

We already have a couple of things. Here are some ideas of items you might consider donating for this year’s Christmas party: Movie or concert or sporting event tick-ets, fishing trip, kayak/raft trip, dessert and game night, other experiences, themed baskets of goodies, car related items, wine or wine tasting trip, homemade items (food, clothing, etc), your imagination is the limit.

As soon as you know what you would like to donate, contact Sue Stose (360 601-7002) or Peggy Oliver (503-709-3616) by December 6th. You will have an opportunity to bring your raffle/auction items to our November activi-ties. we can make arrangements to pick them up, or you can bring them the night of the Christmas dinner by 5:00.

Board Meeting Minutes from page 7

We are firming up dates for next year’s events. For January, we have the first of the year run with the McNabb’s and the Ladies Tea.

Kimber Party is February 8th. John Dutra will send out a survey to the members for

ideas for club events. Sue will be ordering more business cards.

ABFM Next year ABFM will be September 11-13, 2020. The

date was driven by Sovren’s availability. We do not have the report for ABFM income or attend-

ance, as we have not had the wrap up meeting. The banquet sold out this year.

The marque next year is MG. Discussion about how to make the event successful. Ideas include having MG rac-ing. The MG clubs and Sovren would need to reach out to the racers. Keith volunteered to talk to the local clubs and Sovren by next club meeting.

Keith has a large sign and a visible engine available for display.

It was suggested that we recruit significant cars to dis-play lining the road into the event.

There was discussion about how trophies are selected. Triumph club is responsible for selecting trophies. It was suggested that useful items, (clocks, coffee mugs, picture frames) be considered for trophies. We realize that cost is an issue in the selection of trophies.

Discussed potential speakers for ABFM. Suggested speakers should be contacted soon.

The club wind feather is coming. Discussed the club tent at events. Who is responsible

for volunteer signups, transporting and setting up and tear down? Activities is responsible for signing up volunteers. Sue stores the displays and brings to events. Currently Tom and Sue bring the tents and tables to events.

It was suggested that we make a check list to help coor-dinate transporting items to events. It was suggested we bring a cooler (with water for volunteers), tables and chairs.

It was suggested each event have a coordinator or or-ganizer. This would be a good position for a new member.

Decision to have Activities committee responsible for club tent at events, with tasks being delegated to volunteers.

Open discussion/New items Logbooks for MG: Discussed log book quotes. Best

For Sale 1961 MGA, Old British White, $20,000

Selling my passion project, a 1961 MGA. Bought 10 years ago and had it shipped to Portland

from Denver. Since then I’ve done an on-body rebuild—either replaced or repaired almost everything.

Replaced the fenders, hood, apron, nose, right inner fender and pan behind the grill.

Painted Old British White, gray piping

Replaced wood floor boards and re wired.

New fuel tank and new fuel lines with upgraded fuel pump

New master, slave cylinders and brake lines.

Replaced engine with a 69 MGB 5 main engine

Header, electronic ignition

Oil cooler, MGB radiator and electronic fan

Rebuilt SU and professionally tuned,

Replaced transmission with a ford T-9 5 speed conver-sion kit

New rear shocks and gas tank

Added sway bar

New top and tonneau

Re built the seats with tan leather

New dark brown carpet

Re chromed windshield frame and new glass + new side curtains.

New luggage rack and front bumper guard

Halogen head light and driving lights

LED tail lights

This car was built to drive. My problem is that it’s not being driven and I have other projects I want to tackle.

Heads up, the body work is good, but it does have a new nose and if you know what you’re looking for under the bonnet you can see the repair... this car is not a restora-tion, it’s meant to be driven.

Lastly as an on body repair, the inner rocker panels were repaired. The repair is adequate, but on my to do list was to replace them.

I’ve been a MGA lover since high school and this is my third rebuild and it’s the best.

It’s a fun car to drive, raw compared to new car stand-ards. Great car for cruise ins and trips to the coast or Moun-tains. Lots of power and little weight.

My loss your gain! $20,000 I expect an inspection. Dan Hanenkrat 360-907-4491
