On April 28, 2015 a 7.8 magnitude earthquake shook central Nepal to its core. It left a wake of death, damage, and desperation.

The earthquake happened around noon on Saturday – a time when nearly all Nepali Christians were in church, which may have saved the lives of many Christians.

The earthquake’s epicenter was between Kathmandu and Pokhara. Both are places where Tiny Hands has a concentration of staff and children’s homes.

TRAGEDY NEPALin

The death of one of our Nepali staff from the Narayanghad transit monitoring station who was visiting his home village in the Gorkha region was the only significant loss Tiny Hands suffered. While most of the global media coverage focused on Kathmandu, there was much assistance needed in the remote villages of central Nepal. That’s where Tiny Hands focused the majority of its relief efforts. It will take years for many of these villages to fully recover. We provided urgently-needed earthquake relief supplies (tarps, food, medicine, water buckets, etc.) to over 8,000 families in the most-affected areas in May.

We are also providing financial assistance, tarps, engineers, counseling, and help in finding new houses to rent for all Tiny Hands Nepal staff whose homes have been damaged.

The next 3 issues of Hand in Hand Online are dedicated to our courageous staff (both U.S. and Nepali), the parents and children in our homes, and you—our extremely generous donors who answered the call to make a difference in the lives of thousands of Nepalis in the aftermath of the tragedy. God has faithfully provided grace, mercy, healing, and resources through you and many others.

Most people in the earthquake-affected areas of Nepal are still sleeping outside, and they will continue to do so through the monsoon season this summer. This lack of protection makes women and children easier prey for traffickers.

Tiny Hands is responding with a program to provide relief supplies to areas with an increased risk of human trafficking. We will also be promoting trafficking aware-ness and surveying residents to deter-mine if traffickers have visited the area – and if possible—arrest and prosecute them. • • •

You can help prevent a second tragedy of increased human trafficking by do-nating to our anti-trafficking work. Every $100 helps prevent one woman or child from being trafficked.

BE THE KINGDOMAll our work is done in conjunction with local churches and we strive to live our faith in Jesus Christ and His gospel by following the directives of the New Testament in how we live, work, and relate to one another.

HELP THOSE WHO NEED IT MOSTJesus said, “whatever you do for the least of these, you do for me.” In response to this teaching, our goal is to find and help the most desperate and needy people in the world.

DO MUCH WITH LITTLEWe strive to find and implement the strategies that make the greatest possible difference in the lives of as many people as possible with the limited resources we have been entrusted with.

Tiny Hands is driven by three core values that shape every program and management

decision we make.
