According to the U.S. Department of State, catastrophic natural disasters disproportionately impact the most vulnerable members of society and make them primary targets for exploitation and enslavement. Children become separated from their families while law enforcement officials are usually preoccupied with rescue and relief efforts. This is the human “tragedy” after the natural tragedy.

Nepal has been at the center of the global trafficking epidemic for many years. Its open borders and proximity to India and the Middle East make it one of the most high risk human trafficking sources in the world.

Now there is grave concern that the increased poverty and homelessness caused by the recent earthquakes will make the women and children of Nepal even bigger trafficking targets.

Tiny Hands has been fighting trafficking In Nepal since 2006. During that time, we have used our transit monitoring strategy to prevent over 8,800 women and children from being trafficked. Transit Monitoring attacks trafficking at the most strategic moment – while it is in the process of occurring, but before victims have been exploited or enslaved. It takes someone who would have otherwise been trafficked and prevents it.

In the wake of the earthquakes, Tiny Hands is specifically targeting areas which are at high risk for increased trafficking. We are providing relief supplies to these areas specifically to give potential trafficking victims the basic supplies they need. We want them to feel secure in staying in their village instead of accepting bogus job offers in India and the Middle East that will land them in slavery. In addition, we will also be promoting trafficking awareness and surveying residents to determine if traffickers have visited the area – and if possible—arrest and prosecute them. You can support this program by responding to the “Help Prevent a Second Tragedy” giving envelope in this issue.

This is just the beginning of the Tiny Hands long-term recovery effort in Nepal. We will continue to create and operate cost effective anti-trafficking programs in the months and years to come. Our desire is to see God do an amazing work in and through the people of Nepal.

Most people in the earthquake-affected areas of Nepal are still sleeping outside, and they will continue to do so through the monsoon season this summer. This lack of protection makes women and children easier prey for traffickers.

Tiny Hands is responding with a program to provide relief supplies to areas with an increased risk of human trafficking. We will also be promoting trafficking aware-ness and surveying residents to deter-mine if traffickers have visited the area – and if possible—arrest and prosecute them. • • •

You can help prevent a second tragedy of increased human trafficking by do-nating to our anti-trafficking work. Every $100 helps prevent one woman or child from being trafficked.

BE THE KINGDOMAll our work is done through local churches and we strive to live our faith in Jesus Christ and His gospel by following the directives of the New Testament in how we live, work, and relate to one another.

HELP THOSE WHO NEED IT MOSTJesus said, “whatever you do for the least of these, you do for me.” In response to this teaching, our goal is to find and help the most desperate and needy people in the world.

DO MUCH WITH LITTLEWe strive to find and implement the strategies that make the greatest possible difference in the lives of as many people as possible with the limited resources we have been entrusted with.

Tiny Hands is driven by 3 core values that shape every program and management

decision we make.
