Whatever your taste in movies-- from Hollywood blockbusters to foreign film to documentaries to children’s classics-- Hamilton Theater has something for everyone.
Since 1895, Hamilton Theater has been a cen-terpiece of community life in central New York. One of the few remaining independent theaters, Hamilton Theater boasts the kind of program-ming not often available in rural communities. Why go to the city when you can enjoy the same high quality film experience found in the art houses and cinemas of New York City—right here in central New York!
Hamilton Theater’s general manager, Chuck Fox says the theater’s Indie Film Series regularly attracts an audience from throughout central New York.“Moviegoers who enjoy independent film know that they will find the best in art, documentary and foreign language film daily at 5:30pm each Wednesday through Sunday. Hamilton Theater is proud to offer more indie films than any other theater from Syracuse to Manlius to Utica.” Hamilton Theater’s Grand Operas in Cinema se-ries features classic operas, captured live at the world’s leading opera houses and presented
in stunning high definition digital image and Dolby surround sound. The 2013 – 2014 season includes Carmen from Handa Opera on Sydney Harbour (Dec. 8), La Traviata from Milan’s Teatro alla Scala (Jan. 12), L’Italiana in Algeri from Teatro Comunale di Bologna (Feb. 16), Lucia di Lammermoor from La Scala (Mar. 23) and Il Trovatore from La Scala (Apr.13).
“Hamilton Theater is located in the historic Sheldon Opera House,” said Fox, “a perfect venue for presentation of classic opera that has become a highlight for opera lovers from as far away as Binghamton, Syracuse and Ithaca.” All operas are presented Sundays at 1pm, with intermissions hosted by the Colgate Inn.
Hamilton Theater offers even more. The Hamilton International Film Festival has become a high-light of the summer season, featuring world class films and filmmakers. An Evening of Silent Film offers a trip down memory lane each August. The Banff International Film Festival, scheduled for February 20, 2014, annually draws a capacity audience. Friday midnight movies are a hit and “Pay What You Want” days (the next is sched-uled for December 30) are a seasonal favorite.
for tickets and information, contact Hamilton theater at 315-824-2724 or visit the website at www.hamiltontheater.net.

Will of the trees - David and Julia Will
Will of the trees is a sapling growing on Johnnycake Hill outside of Hamilton, new York. the seed was sown in the shadow of retirement and the sunlight of a desire to create fine wood products that show-case the life of the tree... and, “What the heck are we going to do now that we’re retired from a
combined fifty years of teaching and twenty years of computer applications?”
the kids grew up and left home. the trees grew up and needed tending. When you love wood - the patterns and textures, when you enjoy using tools to create, prob-lem solving, being outdoors and being together - and you own a woodlot, you begin a business to craft unique, useful, fine wood products. each piece is built from the ground up. We cut the trees, mill the lumber, dry the lumber in our homemade solar kiln and then re-saw and four square the boards in our shop.
all of the products from Will of the trees are finely crafted and every board has been selected and positioned to showcase the life of the tree and the natural pat-terns of the wood. each piece we create is from an original design. We create the templates, jigs and process for each design. We experiment with many forms of jointery and incorporate the natural, seasonal expansion and contraction of the wood in visible ways in our designs.
the pieces are carefully finished and have a natural 0%voC oil finish. our current products include cherry-framed maple cutting boards, large cherry planters, maple finger joint boxes, maple and cherry harvest and sofa tables, and cherry wine racks. large storage boxes and coffee tables are in the design stages. each piece is unique and and carries a numbered label.
In January, we will be featuring a local resident in the
Hamilton Highlights in the hopes of building our sense
of community by getting to know each other better.
