Be prepared to be self-sufficient for the first 3-5 days after a major storm or incident.

Plan in Advance – If you live in an evacuation zone and an evacuation is ordered, you are required by law to evacuate. Public shelters are a refuge of last resort. Remember, shelters are not designedfor comfort, and only one shelter accepts pets, although service animals for the disabled are accepted at all shelters. Take along your emergency supply kit.

Stock Your Emergency Supply Kit – Plan on supplies including food and water (a gallon per day per person) that will sustain your family for 3-5 days. Also, prepare ahead for your medical needs such as insulin, oxygen, and any prescription medications ensuring you have a 30-day supply.

Notify Others of Your Plans – Have an out-of-state friend or family contact, so all family members have a single point of contact. Notify this contact and other family members and friends of your plans.

Plan For Your Pet – Specialized pet shelters, pet-friendly hotels, veterinary clinics, friends and relatives out of harm’s way are ALL potential refuges for your pet during an emergency. The City of Hallandale Beach Community Redevelopment Agency (CRA) was created to redevelop Hallandale Beach as a “City of Choice” for residents, businesses and visitors! The CRA was established in 1996 to provide the tools needed to support redevelopment in areas throughout the CRA boundaries.

The Hallandale Beach CRA area is bound to the North by Pembroke Road, to the South by Dade-Broward county line, to the West by Interstate 95 and to the East by NE 14th avenue and the 14 Avenue canal.

The CRA receives funds through ad valorem tax incremental financing. No additional taxes are levied. Some of these funds are used to provide programs for economic and business development.

The Hallandale Beach Police Department is a fully accredited professional law enforcement agency certified by the Florida Commission for Law Enforcement Accreditation. This proactive police agency is dedicated to the important concept of community policing. Partnering with the community and businesses, the Police Department’s role is to provide a safe, clean environment which will instill confidence in our citizens, thereby promoting growth and community advancement. Hallandale Beach is a modern, cohesive community offering the highest quality of life and thereby everyone’s “City of Choice.”

The 4 branches of the Police Department include: Office of the Chief, Administrative Services, Uniformed Patrol and Investigative Services. The Hallandale Beach Police Department offers many community programs for it’s residents to become involved: Against Car Theft in Our Neighborhood (ACTION), Are You Okay, (RUOK), Business Effort Against Theft (BEAT), Crime Prevention Program, Community Police Academy, Drug Abuse Resistance Education (DARE), Neighborhood Crime Watch Program, Seniors and Law Enforcement Together (SALT), Youth Crime Watch (YCW), Volunteers in Police Service, Police Athletic League (PAL), Soccer Champions, and Police Explorers Program.

The new Chief of Police is Dwayne Flournoy. As a native Floridian, Chief Flournoy has a graduate degree from Barry University in Public Administration. He joined the Hallandale Beach Police Department in 1987 after serving three years in the United States Army as a Military Policeman. He is an advocate of physical fitness. “I believe the police department needs to be customer service orientated. In today’s law enforcement philosophy, it is not only about making arrests and incarceration. We have to be a police department that provides services well beyond the normal requirements.” Often police officers have to fulfill many roles in society when dealing with the public. “Our police officers are grief counselors, social workers, educators and mentors. On any given day, we can wear a multitude of hats and accept those responsibilities. We will provide the highest quality services to our visitors and residents in Hallandale Beach.” The demographics and population of the city is changing with younger families. This is a safe city where everyone is able to enjoy the amenities. Chief of Police Dwayne Flournoy is cognizant of the public view of police officers and believes the community has a positive view of this service orientated department.
