Message from the School President

This is a calling that comes from the heart.

The inception of the Green Valley College Foundation was brought about by the sincere desire to help the youth of Mindanao fulfill their dreams.

I came from a poor family where education is perceived to be “only for the privileged few.” Back then, however, I already believe that education may be available to anybody with hard work and prayer. That’s the reason why when I was in college I really worked hard to get a scholarship to finance my studies.

I am now a proud college graduate and professional and has been very blessed with so many things. I believe that it is my time to give back to the community -- that means, helping out the youth achieve whatever dreams they may have.

How do I help? It is through education. This endeavor is heartwarming and fulfilling as I directly contribute to ensuring a good future for Mindanao and the Filipino youth.

It begins with a giving leadership. The success is merely an inevitable result.

The Green Valley College Foundation is one of the most dynamic learning organizations based in the progressive province of South Cotabato. Since its foundation, it has transformed into becoming an influential center for learning through its formal education and training programs and its active involvement in community activities.

The people behind this institution is backed by their impressive wealth of experience and training. But beyond their credentials, it is their commitment to serve and their dedication to their stakeholders that have made things work for the organization.

To understand Green Valley, one has to appreciate and embrace the advocacy which is the fundamental driver of its growth. That is -- helping the middle class and the poor have access to affordable and right quality education.

The institution has consistently produced impressive results in terms of the accomplishments of its students, the innovations made in the programs, and in the projects made in partnerships with reputable and like-minded organizations.

THE HISTORYOur Humble Beginnings

The institution traces its roots from Engr. Romeo Sustiguer who was managing an agroindustrial machinery company, Green Valley Machinery, during the 1990s. When the demand for industrial machines significantly increased, he faced a situation wherein there were no available skilled work force that he can immediately tapped for production. Because of the rarity of the skill, Engr. Sustiguer had to acquire expensive labor -- workers based in relatively far locations -- to meet his schedules in the plant facility.

Opportunity presented itself when Mr. Ruden Jose and Mr. Evaristo Abu approached Engr. Sustiguer to start a new school -- a training center -- at a minimal investment. Seeing training as a strategic solution to his work force predicament, Engr. Sustiguer continued with the foundation of the school in October 1995. It was then named the Green Valley School of Arts and Technology.

At its initial phase, expenses for the school’s operations was solely financed by the machinery company. This did hamper, however, the growth of the organization under the leadership of Engr. Sustiguer’s spouse, Luz. Mrs. Luz’s enthusiasm and knack for people has helped the organization explore and take advantage of opportunities for growth. The general theme for the courses then covered industry-based technology courses such as mechanical, automotive, electrical and electronics technology

The GVSAT grew in terms of student population and its program portfolio also expanded. The founders then decided to further invest in the laboratory facilities through the additional computers, set-up improvements and the library.

The positive responses to all of these developments were overwhelming prompting the management to look for an annex site for expansion in 1998. From the 4th floor of the Green Valley Building located in the downtown area of Koronadal, an annex center was built in the Lower Aurora street in Koronadal. This paved way for the influx of more students.

Consciousness among the residents of South Cotabato grew further as a result of all of the institution’s efforts. The management responded by developing its existing pool of trainers and faculty. At the same time, the school also ventured into other fields of study such as hotel and restaurant management, computer secretarial and nursing aide.

The success was met with welcome challenges. These include having to cope with the significant increase in enrollment and complying with the many requisites for higher education programs. As a response t o t h e g r o w i n g p o p u l a t i o n , t h e management decided to consider transferring to a bigger location in Kilometer 2 of the city.

The first building was able to house hundreds of students. But with the growing population, the need for additional classrooms became a concern. For this reason, expansion became possible with the two major construction projects which housed classrooms and laboratory facilities.

In 2007, Green Valley underwent major management reorganization. Engr. Romeo Sustiguer, Sr. took a more active leadership position. New policies and systems have been put in place to ensure sustained growth.

During this time, Engr. Sustiguer focused on applying for new courses for TESDA. The end result is that the institution became the no.1 training center in terms of the number of the TESDA recognized course offering. These efforts were complemented by the expansion of facilities such as the business center and the renovation of the HRM laboratory.

In January 2009, RJ Sustiguer became more active in general management functions. His thrust is to bring Green Valley at the forefront of education in South Cotabato through stronger business and industry linkages, application of best practices in education and value innovation in institutional services.

After 14 years of Green Valley College’s phenomenal growth, it has yet again embarked on a major undertaking -- that is, the construction of a building which is expected to double existing absorptive capacity. Already, this is considered as one of Green Valley’s major milestone as it fortifies itself to be primal force in the education industry of the region.

The new 4 storey building will house more than 40 rooms -- which are both for lecture and laboratory. The first phase of the construction is on schedule with target date of completion by June 2010.

Alongside these developments, the institution has also applied for a number of new programs to meet the

emerging demands of the educational market. The expansion in the course portfolio is fundamentally prompted by the absence of right quality but affordable program in fields of engineering and hospitality management in the region.

The institution is now also able to leverage on existing strategic partnerships with IBM, a global leader in IT solutions, the UP IT Training Center, the 1st ISO certified IT training center in the country, the Network for Enterprising Women, the Association of Training Institutions for Foreign Trade in Asia and the Pacific and other academic institutions.

To date, Green Valley strongly positions itself as a key learning organization which commits to continual improvements in its system -- scholastic pursuits, processes, faculty, student services and leadership. Several developments are already being considered in the pipeline with the entrance of school year 2012.

THE LEADERSA Call To Serve and To Give

The Green Valley College Foundation is an organization of like-minded individuals who share the vision of empowering the Mindanao youth.

At the helm of the organization is School Chairman of the Board of Trustees and Founder Engr. Romeo S. Sustiguer, Sr. “Roming” as people fondly call him is a mechanical engineer and a serial entrepreneur.

Roming started his career as an office assistant of a bank during the 1980s after finishing his BS in Mechanical Engineering from the University of San Agustin, Iloilo and passing the board. Eventually, he was able to land a job in a tire manufacturing firm as a supervisor and then manager at the young age of 25 in Cainta, Rizal.

During such time, he went through several technical trainings and management development programs in Manila and Japan to hone his skills a high potential manager. He specialized in Marine Engine parts and troubleshooting. When he met his wife, Luz Acojido, Roming decided to go to South Cotabato to start his own family.

In the 1980s, the opportunity to work in the Middle East came. Roming decided to grab this opportunity as a means for greener pasture. After a couple of years, Roming decided to go back to start out with his first venture, a machine shop based in his hometown, Banga. Armed with his technical expertise and his experience, it did not take too long for him and his company, Green Valley Machinery, to be known in the province.

After more than 20 years of experience in business and entrepreneur, Engr. Roming spends his time roaming around the campus and talking to parents. Above his business interests is the satisfaction of being able to connect directly with the students and empowering them through education.

Co-founding the institution and taking lead during the start-up stages is Vice P r e s i d e n t f o r F i n a n c e a n d Administration Luz Sustiguer.

Luz comes from a middle class family from Canlubang, Laguna where she studied elementary and high school education. When her family decided to move to Cainta, Rizal, Luz decided to be a self-supporting college student at the Jose Rizal College (now Jose Rizal University). She worked as a saleslady in a department store in the morning and attended college in the evening.

After finishing her Bachelor of Science in Accountancy degree, Luz decided to move in with her husband, Roming Sustiguer to South Cotabato.

Throughout the years, Luz has acquired considerable experience in general management, sales and entrepreneurship in the industrial and agricultural machinery and real estate industry. Recently, Luz finished her Masters in Business Administration from the Notre Dame of Marbel University.

Sustaining the growth of the institution is the primarily role of the President RJ Sustiguer.

RJ Sustiguer’s exposure in strategic marketing and enterprise management has prepared him to take on the leadership of the institution. His engagements span from being a manager, a trainer, an advocate and an entrepreneur.

“The dynamism of my youth complemented by the BS in Business Administration and Masters of Business Administration degree from UP Diliman, my special trainings and industry exposure played a huge role.” RJ explains.

RJ’s natural business orientation comes from his exposure being a part of a family enterprise. He has been involved in a number of ventures, some of which are still operating and some have already folded. As an entrepreneur, however, he continues to persist and constantly search for more opportunities.

His thrust is to put the institution in the map of the academic community in Mindanao. This is made possible through his strong network in the industry as well as academic organizations and through the adoption of best practices.

Supporting the initiatives of the management team is Vice President for Marketing and Development RC Sustiguer.

RC’s orientation is in the field of media and commun ica t ion be ing a g radua te o f the Communication Arts Program from Miriam College. Her natural ability to connect with people and communicate her ideas provided her with inherent advantages in performing her role.

RC has been involved in training as a life coach and as a workshop facilitator. Her expertise in personality development, leadership and the arts is being leveraged for the improvement of the institution’s brand.

Together, the 4 leaders of the institution comprise the executive management team which will bring Green Valley College to new heights and live up to the challenge of Moving Ahead.

THE ADVOCACYWhy We Do What We Do?

The existence of the institution is built fundamentally on the desire to help the marginalized poor of South Cotabato and Mindanao through formal education and training.

To date, the institution has given more than 2000 scholarships and tuition

discounts to financially challenged but deserving students.

The institution believes that investing in human capital will fuel the social and e c o n o m i c d e v e l o p m e n t o f communi t ies. As such, we progressively explored opportunities to

support the learning of our students either through direct interventions such as scholarships or through indirect interventions such as organizing workshops, conferences and fora to enable massive knowledge and skills transfer and promotion of community centered initiatives.

Selected Advocacy Partners

The primary deterrent for access to educat ion in Mindanao is still the high and rising cost of school (tuition) fees. It is in this challenge where the institution has responded pos i t i ve l y by offering quality learning at a cost that can be afforded by the majority.

This was only made possible through b e s t m a n a g e m e n t p r a c t i c e s comp lemen ted by a s i nce re

commitment to share the success with critical stakeholders such as the faculty, the parents and the students. The support may also come from like-minded organizations and networks who share the same vision for the Mindanao youth.

We understand that our partnerships with them will result to years of unprecedented and sustainable growth. When a partner is able to achieve their objectives, then this will automat ical ly cascade to our

achievement of the organizational goals.

At the core of Green Valley spirit are our students. They are our inspiration and our source of pride.

The Commission on Higher Education is the governing body covering both public and private higher education institutions as well as degree-granting programs in all tertiary educational institutions in the Philippines. The CHED was established in May 18, 1994 through Republic Act 7722 or the Higher Education Act of 1994.

Technical Education and Skills Development Authority

The Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) was established through the enactment of Republic Act No. 7796 otherwise known as the "Technical Education and Skills Development Act of 1994", which was signed into law by President Fidel V. Ramos on August 25, 1994. This Act aims to encourage the full participation of and mobilize the industry, labor, local government units and technical-vocational institutions in the skills development of the country's human resources.

AFPEBSO

The AFP Educational Benefit System Office (AFPEBSO) is one of the morale and welfare outfits of the Armed Forces of the Philippines that grants educational benefits both to the military personnel (especially disabled) and their dependents with the aim of helping them secure a brighter future. As it recognizes our soldiers' heroism, especially of those who lay down their lives in protecting our peace, AFPEBSO gives priority to the orphans of soldiers who were killed in action.

It is the belief of the institution that why it exists is because it would like to take part in the transformation of the Mindanao region by empowering its students and the stakeholders in the community.

Student Diversity

Our students come from the different parts of Mindanao mostly coming from the provinces of South Cotabato and Sultan Kudarat. Being non sectarian, the institution does not discriminate students coming from different orientations, gender, religion and organizational affiliations. This diversity fuels the creative energies and the inter-cultural interaction in campus making it a lively academic community. The institution is currently serving catholics, christians, muslim and the indigenous minorities present in Mindanao - B’laan, T’boli and Badjao.

Massive Potential for Community Development

A significant number of students are formal and non formal young leaders of their respective community. This includes young leaders that are part of the Sangguniang Kabataan, the local churches, and youth organizations. This presents an opportunity for these students to prompt or create dramatic changes to a multitude of other young people. We see the multiplier effect of our initiatives in enabling our young leaders as creating positive impact in terms of clear cut development pro jects and even cont r ibute strategically through sound policy

formulation in government or the organizations they serve.

Grassroots Motivation

One important facet of the student complexion is their deep desire to grow out of poverty. A major percentage of the students belong to financially challenged households. As such, one may observe that their inherent propensity to desire for a better life. Over the years, it h a s b e e n recognized that the reasonable and affordable f e e s o f t h e institution has l o w e r e d t h e financial barrier to education for these students.

At the core of the School of Health Sciences is the center’s desire to produce highly qualified health professionals which will contribute to the general improvement of the health condition and well being of the Mindanao community.

The SHS takes pride in having extensive facility infrastructure - well conditioned classrooms and standards-compliant laboratory rooms - and qualified faculty members.

The School of Education, one of the fastest growing academic units, aspires to produce a strong pool of global educators.

The Green Valley College – Center for Technology Excellence, the technical/vocational unit of the institution, is the premier training hub for technical and vocational education in the province of South Cotabato.

Green Valley College’s long history as a Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) provider has strongly positioned the center to offer a variety of training programs.

High School for the Arts

Kaizen Kids International*

The Green Valley College – High School For the Arts is one of the college’s breakthrough academic unit. With its clear differentiation, the High School for the Arts positions itself to be a pioneering art school for teenagers in the region. The program design is based on a reengineered learning model the will complement the basic education curriculum.

The evolution of the high school is prompted by the management’s desire to introduce a new learning experience for the high schoolers. The objective is to develop well rounded individuals that are analytical and logical and at the same time creative and intuitive.

The full implementation of the learning program have commenced last June 2011 for the First Year students. The learning program’s features include the Four (4) art disciplines and integrative features which focus on the total development of the individual.

School of Professional and Executive Education

Culinary Institute*

The School of Professional and Executive Education (SPEED) envisions itself to be the preferred provider of

continuing education for professionals in the region. Its inception is driven by the desire offer professional development programs for the growing number of professionals based in the region as well organize learning programs that will complement the professional development of students.

As an academic unit, its mission covers the following:

• Offer institutional short term and modular programs for professionals and lifelong learners;• Become the internal professional competency assessment center of the institution;• Partner with professional organizations to create mutually beneficial relationships;• Promote the culture of lifelong learning through its publications and events; and• Organize events that will professionally complement the learnings in formal education

The SPEED is expected to cater to the needs of the growing number of professionals and organizations which are proactive in terms of continuous employee development.

Green Valley College embarks on another exciting journey as we establish the GVC Culinary Institute in the City of Koronadal.

The Institute is part of the institution’s commitment to reinforcing its thrust t o w a r d s p r o d u c i n g h i g h l y competent HRM professionals which would like to specialize in culinary arts.

The expected date of opening will be on late 2012 or 2013.

If there is one thing that would make our organization truly stand out, that would be our commitment. That is, our commitment to excellence and our commitment to fulfill the dreams of the youth. We believe in the Filipino and just like our hero, Jose Rizal, I would go on further by saying that we believe in the Filipino youth.

This belief is shown in Green Valley’s unwavering commitment to strive for excellence in terms of continually improving the facilities, periodically enhancing the academic curriculum, aggressive faculty development programs, benchmarking with national and global best practices and our special projects which are meant to create massive awareness or take part in improving the lives of the people in South Cotabato through direct community involvement.

At the same time, this belief is also shown in the support we have given to our students by gradually expanding our course portfolio -- which provides options for them, allowing them to explore the career and business opportunities available in their chosen fields and by ensuring that their school/training has provided them with the necessary conceptual foundations and skill sets in order for them to move forward with their goals.

Running an institution seemed like a breeze but not without the full and relentless support of people who resonate and connect with the advocacy of the institution.

The leaders of the institution are supported by seasoned professionals from the academe and also those coming from the industry -- generally with management or technical background.

The commonality in the core values -- customer orientation, innovation, commitment to excellence -- is what binds them together in creating positive impact in the empowerment of the youth.

The professionals who work with the institution have also grown with the institution. Continuous Employee Development

Providing opportunities for growth is a key factor in attracting talent into the organization. Such opportunities would come in the form of skills development training, discipline-specific training, and leadership development programs.

The attendance of employees to development programs are necessary in the achievement of its long term capability building, promotion of the institutional brand, and the establishment of key contacts in support of its sustainable growth.

In response to the call for updating the qualifications of the employees by the Commission on Higher Education, the institution has embarked on the strategic upgrading of the employees by encouraging them to pursue higher studies.

EDUCATION IN MINDANAOFrom Land of Promise to Land of Results

Mindanao has once been c a l l e d t h e “ L a n d o f Promise.” But over the years, the promise remains to be seen.

The region has lagged in terms of total human development. This is evidenced by having the lowest literary rate among the 3 island clusters of the Philippines (Luzon and Visayas).

In this section, we highlight the prevalent institutional challenges that we face in Mindanao from the institution’s perspective.

Limited Access to Education

It has been said in many fora that one major challenge we face in the region is access to education.

The problem is actually two-fold: One is that there is limited presence of schools in rural areas. Second, the rising tuition and other fees effectively become barriers to entry of students especially those who can barely afford education.

Over the years, the number of basic education and higher education institutions have grown by leaps and bounds. But one would notice that much of this growth have been concentrated on urban areas such as the key cities in Mindanao.

In the suburban towns and municipalities, however, the number of schools cannot compensate for the growing number of young learners.

In basic education, much households rely on the public education system. But with the perennial problems in budget constraints, the students

would have to deal with the inefficient delivery of institutional services. This is compounded by the seeming disregard for continual improvement in terms of faculty and infrastructure development.

In Mindanao region, the sheer number of higher education institutions do not correlate with greater access since only those who can migrate to the cities would most likely be able to avail of educational and training services. Meanwhile, institutions are hesitant to set up or locate in rural communities due to concerns on financial sustainability.

Another problem is the rising cost of education. With the deregulation of the education sector in the 1990s, the tuition and other fees have skyrocket especially in the urban centers.

The cost of education would include the additional expenses related to boarding for those coming from nearby rural areas, food allowance, school and learning allowance (books, supplies, etc.), and transportation allowance.

Inequitable and Limited Distribution of Student Opportunities

The learning opportunities at the national and international level are currently being accessed mostly by students from Manila and other metropolitan cities.

We believe that such result comes from the lack of awareness among Mindanao students and the preferential treatment given to those coming from metropolitan cities.

There have been a growing number of developmental initiatives geared towards enabling the students from Mindanao since the 1980s. Scholarships have been given in the field of agriculture, science and technology, education, culture and peace. The predicament, however, is that these opportunities did not go down to the grassroots level. One may attribute such failure to the situational context during the time where insurgencies, terrorism, and extreme poverty plagued the entire region.

There have been positive signs in terms of opportunities for graduate education scholarships, international exchanges, faculty fellowships and strategic industry partnerships in this period but much needs to be done in order to achieve the desired degree of equity.

Rigid Regulatory and Statutory Policies that cannot be Localized

The rigid policies set by government institutions impede start-up and growth initiatives of educational and training institutions in the Mindanao provinces. These “barriers” ultimately contribute to the sluggish development in the sector as reflected in the limited number of home-grown educat iona l sys tems, t rad i t iona l management practices and sporadic innovation-oriented projects in the academe.

The failure of the policies lies in its inability to adjust to the contextual environment of Mindanao which is still at its initial phase of its development plan.

The region is therefore still characterized by the lack of a strong knowledge capital, inefficient

delivery of services, and the imminent threat of terrorism and civil disturbances.

Institutions are therefore penalized for their seeming disregard to comply instead of being given provision for support. Technology Gaps

Another proverbial challenge in the Mindanao region is the lack or limited access to technology. This is brought about by the generally poor IT infrastructure and the slow adaptation among members of the academic communities.

IT services such as sporadic access to wireless fidelity and fast internet bandwidth are available in “new wave” cities such as Cagayan de Oro and Davao City. In other areas, however, IT exposure remains poor. The disparity further adds to the challenge among academicians which has long recognized the critical role of IT in education.

In this period where technology is already considered an enabler of academic excellence, its absence signals that the learners would have to learn the antiquated way.

There have been some effort made to augment the gap. NGOs have been pushing for the adoption of educational technology in the basic education. Meanwhile, established technology companies such as Microsoft and IBM have launched CSR initiative geared toward making technology for education accessible to academic and training institution based in Mindanao.

Migration of Academic Professional to Urban Sites and Abroad

People vote by their feet -- where the oppor tun i t ies a re is where peop le go. Opportunities for teachers and other academic professionals to earn substantial income are quite limited in Mindanao especially in the hinterlands.

There is a general tendency among high potential professionals to look for greener pastures in more developed cities in Manila and the Visayas.

While much work lies ahead for the upliftment of education in Mindanao, there are some best practices that have shown great promise.

These practices have created significant results in terms of making education the great social equalizer.

Alternative Learning Systems / Non Conventional Education

The establishment of ALS in Basic Education and Non Conventional Education in Higher Education are creative answers to learners who have seem to have placed education as their last priority in

the past or may not have access to education but currently has decided to pursue it for personal and professional growth.

The recognition of prior learning, the flexible student-centered learning modality and the competency based coursework and assessment gave the learners a new lease in pursuing higher and advanced studies.

Such way of equivalency provides learners not just the convenience but also ensured the sustainability of the learning process until their eventual completion.

Technology Enabled Education

Technology have made poss ib le bet ter engagement with learners. The presence of online learning platforms have made it possible for learners to get more accessible and more flexible delivery of instruction.

The utilization of the internet, computers, cloud computing and even mobile technology presents opportunit ies for educat ional institutions to radically increase its outreach and support the fundamental reason why they was created - that is to empower the Mindanao youth and spur the development of champions in multiple disciplines.

S t ro n g N G O / I n t e r n a t i o n a l D o n o r s Participation in Development Initiatives

M i n d a n a o i s c o n s i d e re d a s t r a t e g i c development area for the Philippines. This is primarily due to the vast resources that are present in the region. In fact, a major bulk of the country’s economy is being supported by the utilization of Mindanao’s human (manpower), ecological (minerals, agriculture, and power) and enterprise (business) capital.

The increasing presence of NGOs and International organizations is a positive development for Mindanao because they are able to address several developmental challenges that have long stunted the growth of the area most especially in the field of education.

TECHNOPRENEURSHIPCombining Technical Skills and Business Competence

One salient feature to the learning experience of the students is the inst i tu t ion’s thrust towards technopreneurship.

The importance of gaining technical competencies is grounded on the institution’s long history of being a technical/vocational training (TVET) center and a credible supplier of technical workers needed by the local industry and abroad.

The founder believes that all students should have the necessary skills and competencies in order for them to be successful in what they do. The philosophy of the founder is that knowledge alone will not make a p e r s o n p r e p a r e d t o s e i z e opportunities in life.

One would observe the preferential treatment given skills development in the program design, which is

reflected in the curricula, syllabi, student activities, and co-curricular requirements.

Equally as important as skills development is the i ns t i t u t i on ’s commi tment to promot ing entrepreneurship by through the enhancement of their business competence.

The institution believes that the educational system have for so long promoted the idea of “learning for work” -- which means that students study so that they will have eventual employment.

Institution recognizes, however, that what will drive value-adding development in the community is the creation of entrepreneurs -- those which will contribute to the vibrant economic activity and also provide employment opportunities.

It is for this very reason why students are exposed to business-related activities such as industry immersion, business summits, and mentoring with entrepreneurs.

UPCOMING PROJECTSLeaping for Sustainable and Breakthrough Growth

Continuous Facility Expansion and Improvement

We believe that our commitment to the advocacy is clearly seen in our aggressive desire to improve our existing facilities so that the environment will become even more conducive to learning.

We intend to further improve our current infrastructure in Koronadal, Isulan and Banga. Currently, there are major construction projects done in the main Koronadal campus. In the pipeline is the repair of the original college site for the Culinary Institute.

International and National Accreditation

We are proud of our milestone of being the first institution-wide ISO certified school in the region. We do not, however, rest on our laurels as we intend to work other accreditation such as the Philippine Quality Awards, PACUCOA, and other recognition bodies.

Foreign Students

It is our desire to help out in the development of Mindanao through human capital development as well for our neighboring countries - particularly those signatories to the BIMP-EAGA partnership. These countries include the Philippines, Brunei, Indonesia and Malaysia.

Mindanao is strategically located near these neighboring countries making it a feasible trading hub for the Philippines to trade with these other countries in the ASEAN region. In line with this, we also see the opportunity for Mindanao to be an education hub as well.

Additional Learning Sites

We are looking at additional learning sites as part of our commitment to empower more Mindanao youth. These sites include General Santos City, Davao City and Tagum City.

Over the years, we have continuously poured out our efforts to make sure that we attain our goals as an institution. The noble objectives continue to inspire me especially when I see the realization of the dreams of our students and even our employees.

We recognize the importance of working with other people if we want to advance our advocacy. True enough, our partnership with individuals and organization who share with our advocacy has been very fruitful.

I cannot thank them enough. There could never be enough show of gratitude to exact the hope they give to the students of the institution.

What I wish is that there’ll be more people who would follow them in supporting our cause. There is much work to be done when it comes to education.

FOR FACULTY The Opportunities for Teachers in our Organization

Our teachers remain an important knowledge asset of our institution. We believe that our core service to our students is delivered by our dedicated pool of faculty which has the same vision as the institution.

However, we do recognize the challenges being faced by Green Valley College:

1) There is a scarcity of competent faculty that may be sourced within our city and province -- The high caliber teachers would generally tend to settle to urban centers thereby contributing the knowledge divide, referring to the disparity between the quality of education between the urban centers and the developing centers, which are mostly rural areas; and

2) There is a need for updating and upgrading of faculty competencies and knowledge resources -- We recognize that in the dynamic teaching profession as well with the rapid developments in various disciplines, we are challenged to keep ourselves relevant and updated as an academic community.

How Can We Work Together?Join as a Full Time or Part Time Faculty Member

We welcome faculty members, on a full-time or part time basis, who would like to join us in our advocacy as an educational and training institution. We consider the members of our faculty as our primary front-liners in the delivery of our core service.

Our needs include faculty members for general education subjects and professional subjects for the different academic units in the college.

The Visiting Instructor/Professor Program

We are looking for experienced educators, trainers and industry professionals who would like to impart their wealth of experience and expertise to enable our students and also our employees. We believe that the knowledge divide may be addressed through this program.

The Volunteer Peer/Industry Mentor

What we are looking for are people who share the vision of empowering the Mindanao youth through education and training. While you recognize that you cannot commit to spending so much time with our students, you can help out in upgrading our faculty members. By mentoring our faculty members through immersion with your organization or through personalized coaching with you, we believe that you

We would like to get your support by having our students immersed in the operations of your organization. We believe that the exposure of our students to your organization will have a positive impact in terms of putting in context what they have learned in the classroom. Placement and Twinning Agreements

We would like to be the training ground for your employees. As such, we would like to know what should be taught in the classroom and how should we teach it. We would like to work with you closely so that we meet your manpower requirements - without you having to spend more money on training or retraining!

We would like to explore possibility of having knowledge exchange - that is, you can leverage on our knowledge resources - faculty members, students and researches to enable your enterprise and vice versa. We understand the working with other academic communities will positively impact on the entire education sector in the Mindanao region. We do not see competition but recognize the opportunity for collaboration.

As a sector, we believe that we are facing the challenge of knowledge divide characterized by:

1) Institutions are working on silos in terms of uplifting the quality of education. Because resources are limited, the impact of their individual effort is also limited.

The expertise of outstanding faculty members are meant to be shared for the greater academic community. We believe that this will facilitate the flow of knowledge across the different students in different regions or countries.

Benchmarking on Best Practices

We recognize that we have so much to learn as an institution. As such we laud the support of more established institutions who would like to share with us their best practices so that we can address the learning curve and focus more on attaining our institutional objectives.

Academic Linkages on Student and Faculty Opportunities

Grants, fellowships and scholarships are special opportunities given to select but deserving Mindanao youth and teachers. We believe that these special opportunities opens up a world of possibilities for them to indulge further in their chosen discipline or immerse themselves with experts to become experts themselves in the future.

We welcome international organizations (NGOs and Donors) who would like to take part in our advocacy. As a recognized foundation, we believe that there is a vast majority of people and funding organizations out there who would like to contribute in the development of the Mindanao region.

How Can We Work Together?Community Engagement Programs of One Young Mindanao

The One Young Mindanao has five advocacy themes: Education, Environment, Youth Leadership, Peace, and Entrepreneurship. We regularly initiate projects and community driven initiatives that are based on the identified themes.

We would like to work with you on the implementation of the community engagement programs of One Young Mindanao. We are open to the support of like-hearted individuals who would like to contribute to making the lives of the people of Mindanao better.

Scholarship Project Implementation

One key element to the sustained growth of our institution is our increasing portfolio of scholarship opportunities that we provide to prospective and existing students. We recognize the financial predicaments faced by the students today and we see the provision of scholarships as a form of support for these students to continue with their studies.

Scholarships may be given to students which will be taking formal education or non formal training courses. We have set our selection process to identify those which deserve the scholarships particularly those coming from tribal communities and those living under the poverty line.

Capacity Building Projects and other Special Projects

We recognize the importance of taking on capacity building projects as part of your support to our organization’s growth. We believe that we will be able to rapidly respond to emerging opportunities if our management team and those working with them has the right competencies and the current infrastructure requirement is available.

The support from funding agencies in terms of facilities expansion and equipment acquisition/donations will surely go a long way. The institution is also open to taking on development initiatives that focus on the development of IP communities, preservation of cultural heritage and local arts and the development of research capabilities for youth studies.
