Friday 8 May 7.30pmThe Menuhin Hall, Cobham Road, Stoke D’Abernon, KT11 3QQ (doors open 7pm)The Lyrical CelloGary Hoffman, celloWu Qian, piano We continue our celebration of the 250th anniversary of Beethoven’s birth with two of his greatest works for cello and piano: the delightful Variations on Papageno’s lovelorn theme from Mozart’s Magic Flute, and the radiant, lyrical Third Sonata - one of the first works of the genre to make the two instruments truly equal partners in a virtuosic dialogue which brims with expressiveness and high spirits. Two works by Mendelssohn complete this joyful programme - the youthful, spirited Variations Concertantes and his exuberant Cello Sonata No.1.

Acclaimed international cellist Gary Hoffman is joined at the piano by Festival Co-Founder and Artistic Director Wu Qian.
