GRIFLAM Heating Technology Fuel Gases:

The heating process and the required temperature height determine not only the choice of heating torch, but also the choice of fuel gas used. The shape of the heating torch and ist distance to the job influence the heat distribution.

The flame temperature can be varied by altering the mixing ration of fuel gas / air or fuel gas / Oxygen.

However, not only the flame temperature but also the burning speed of the gas is decisive for the selection of the gas mixture. For these factors, too influence the distribution of heat and the time to heat the job.

Construction:With single flame outlet (Z-A) or multi flame outlet (F-A) and under pressure (Injector) mixing principle. Designed for thermodynamic stability. Angle: 60° The inserts are able to retain a constant mixing ratio, even under high thermal loads so they ensure a neutral welding flame. Where normal heating and welding inserts would separate the gases because of the high heat load, and even backfire, forcing work to be paused, the KONSTANTHERM inserts allow an undisturbed, continuous heating and melting, which is important for high quality welds.

Application:• Welding at places where there is high heat

reflection, e. g. in corners, in the inside of pipes, at pipe junctions.

• Work where two units are used to heat or weld simultaneously from both sides.

• Welding of austenitic steels. • Surface welding (coating) • Armouring sensitive, high alloy steels.

Construction: Type F-A: Brass mixing tube with brazed multi-jet copper heating nozzle and additional protection ring of heat resistant steel. The protecting ring stops the nozzle contacting the job so there is no nozzle wear and no backfiring. Type FB-A: Brass mixing tube with interchangeable, low noise multi-jet copper heating nozzle. The inserts are significantly quieter than conventional heating nozzles with similar outputs. With the correct flame setting, the noise level is under the 85 dB mark. Nozzles: see page 50

Construction: GRIFLAM line heating torches in the modular system with interchangeable nozzles can be used in lengths up to 6000 mm. The torches can be assembled both as straight versions and, with the swivel link, set up for angled or cylindrical bodies or mounted onto them. As standard, the torches are equipped with heating nozzles type Z-PM/D-24/3,0 (page 55), however they can be fitted with other nozzles. The line heating torches are mainly used with Methane (Natural gas) or Propane in combination with atmospheric or compressed air.

Construction:Copper, gas mixing, high power nozzles with wide area flame outlet shape. Fuel gas and Oxygen are fed separately to the nozzle and mixed internally by a number of separate mixers (Injectors) using the under pressure mixing principle. By dividing the total mixture volume into part volumes and through the short lengths of the gas feed canals, the nozzles can withstand very high thermal loads and are practically absolutely back-fire proof.

Description of function: When the flame is present a direct current (1-50 µA) is evaluated in the flame monitor and the relay contacts are switched. The current can be displayed with a dc unit in the sensor line. The flame monitor has one normally opened and one normally closed contact which can be used for control purposes. The operating condition is signalled through a green status lamp.

Warning: Each time the torch is started, especially when working with a UV probe, the contacts should be interrogated for rest condition and evaluated in the control.

Applications: The UV monitoring probe type UV-S1 is insensitive t sunlight, daylight, infra-red radiation, light bulbs and neon lamps and radiation from heated, glowing material. GRIFLAM Heating Technology Flame Hardening:

Construction: Hardening torches for flame hardening to special customer specifications.

Application: Quench hardening ferrous materials, mild and alloyed steels with at least 0,3 % Carbon content can be protected against wear on their edges through flame hardening. The depth of hardening is 1 to 8 mm and can be influenced by the flame temperature and the time of heating. In the mechanised version shaped torches and quenching torches are used which work simultaneously (feed hardening) or sequentially (circulation hardening).
