BY MIKE DUDURICH Golf outings have become an increasingly popular method of raising funds for organizations of all types, including the non-profits. “Golf allows people to make a contribution to something they normally wouldn’t,” said Jerry Supko of Commercial Bank & Trust of Pa. and assis- tant treasurer on the board of the Greater Latrobe-Laurel Valley Chamber. “It helps to expose people to non-profits and makes them aware of the charity.” He should know. He’s the chairman of the committee that puts on the very popular GLLV Golf Classic and Din- ner Event and is on the committee for the Rotary Club of Latrobe’s annual golf outing. The whole package came to- gether on Friday, May 20 when the second annual Greater Latrobe-Laurel Valley Chamber of Commerce Ladies Golf n Gab will be held at Glengarry Golf Links. The event was presented by Kattan Ferretti Insurance and Commercial Bank & Trust of Pennsylvania and ben- efited Blackburn Center Against Domestic and Sexual Violence. Supko is also on that organization’s board of directors. “The purpose of the event is to bring together some ladies who love to golf and are interested in helping to benefit the incredibly important mission of Blackburn Center,” said Denise Martin, the GLLV’s director of mem- bership. “To ladies especially, this non-profit has special meaning. I think we all know someone who has been af- fected by domestic violence.” Page 8 Friday, May 27, 2016 Chamber Page The Latrobe Bulletin GLLV Chamber Holds Annual Excellence in Education Banquet THE CHAMBER PAGE Greater Latrobe-Laurel Valley Regional Chamber of Commerce LatrobeLaurelValley.org Facebook.com/latrobelaurelvalley 3 – Ribbon Cutting-New Building & Open House @ Starbucks and Verizon Wireless Zone, Unity Twp, 11am 8 – Business After Hours Presented by First Commonwealth Bank @ Fort Ligonier (FREE Food & Drinks) 5:05–6:35pm 9 – Ribbon Cutting & Grand Opening @ Sendell Subaru, Greensburg, 5-9pm 16 – Chamber AM Networking Breakfast @ Courtyard by Marriott, Greensburg, 7:30– 9am 28 – Chamber University @ SpringHill Suites by Marriott, Latrobe, 8-9:30am JUNE EVENT CALENDAR WELCOME New Members! The yearly banquet salutes the top five percent of graduating seniors at Greater Latrobe, Derry Area, Greensburg Central Cath- olic High School, Dr. Robert Ketterer Charter School; and Eastern Westmoreland Career & Technology Center. The student honorees are also asked to select a teacher who made an impact on them at some point during the scholastic ca- reer.
