This month we are looking at aninstrument that will be very difficult towrite about in the space that Inormally use to decribe a product. Icould write a book about what this

instrument does and still leave

something out.In the world of electronic keyboards,

"THE SYNERGY" is boss dog of theboneyard. The "SYNERGY" is a fullydigital keyboard synthesizer withunlimited voices. It comes factoryprogrammed with 24 voices thai areactivated 1 to 4 at a time with just apress of a button. In addition to 24 preprogrammed voices included with theinstrument, a "cartridge" slot muchlike that found on home video gamesallows additional sets of 24 voices percartridge to be added for use with thekeyboard. Some of the stock voices, just to name a few included: Grandpiano. Piano, Organ. Pipe Organ,Hammond B-3, Solo Violon, StringQuartet. Trumpet, Brass Quartet,Harmonica. Guitar and more. Notonly are new cartridges with 24 voiceseach being continously developed, youcan have custom cartridges madewith the voices you want on them.

The keyboard has 74 velocitysensitive keys and can be splitanywhere allowing you to assigndifferent voices to different areas ofthe keyboard. It also has floating split, that split the keyboard into tworanges, but rather than having a fixedsplit point it moves the position of thesplit so that each voice tracks themovement of one hand up and downthe keyboard.

The "SYNERGY" includes a fullydigital built in recorder that allowsyou to record background

accompaniment of up to four tracks. In other words, you can do somethinglike record a piano part, a stringquartet part, a brass quartet part andthen say an organ part. Then, whenthese parts are played back, you canplay another part along with the fourpreviously recorded parts. WOW!

This only scratches the surface ofwhat is capable v\'ith the"SYNERGY". Does the

"SYNERGY" have a place in churchand gospel music? You had betterbelieve it does! Next time you see andhear the Ken Johnson Trio you'll findout what I mean. As for use in the

church, pipe organ and a whole lotmore for a fraction of the cost.

Til next month,

Dennis Billingsley
