Preposition: shows the relationship (location, direction, time, or
placement) between a noun or pronoun and another word in a
sentence. EX: by, in, around, among, between, etc. Prepositional
Phrase: a phrase that connects nouns, pronouns, and other words in
a sentence. EX: [by the monkey bars] ; [in the garage] ; [between
the two books] ; [among the group] ; [around the corner] Object of
Preposition: the actual noun or pronoun in the prepositional
phrase; the last word in the prepositional phrase; MUST be a noun
or pronoun. EX: : [by the monkey bars] ; [among the group]; [in the

going to take notes the The Steps to identifying Prepositional
Phrases!!!! You are encouraged to copy EXACTLY what you see! You
will have approximately 5 minutes to copy the information on the

Prepositional Phrases : The steps AFTER reading the sentence: 1. ID
(identify) all of the prepositions in the sentence. 2. Place an
open bracket ([) in front of the preposition. 3. Label the
preposition by placing a P above each identified preposition in the
sentence. 4. Place a closed bracket (]) behind the object of the
preposition, which should be the (first) noun/pronoun following the
preposition. 5. Label the noun or pronoun by writing OP above the
object of the preposition. Slide 13 If a verb follows the
identified preposition, please note that NO prepositional phrase is
present. When a verb follows the preposition, it is a verb phrase
and not a prepositional phrase. EX: Jonathan used to play
basketball. EX: Jonathan used to play basketball for DeSoto West.
Become familiar with compound prepositions as well when identifying
prepositions in sentences!!! EX: According to my aunt, biting your
nails causes worms to form in your stomach. Special Notes Slide 14
