What is Global warming ?

Global warming -- a gradual increase in planet-widetemperatures

Earth has been hottest in at least 400 years, andpossibly even the la`st 2,000 years.

Studies indicate that the average global surfacetemperature has increased by approximately 0.5-1.0°F(0.3-0.6°C) over the last century.

This warming is largely attributed to the

increase of greenhouse gases

in the Earth's upper atmosphere

GREEN HOUSE GASSESThe gas traps heat more effectively than all other

gasses are known as Green house gasses, occur

naturally in the environment and also result from

human activities. These gasses areWater vapor

Nitrous oxide

A powerful insulating gas released

 primarily by burning fossil fuels

The concentration of of nitrous oxide

in the atmosphere has increased 17%

over pre-industrial levels.

MethaneAn effective insulator trapping over 20times more heat than does the sameamount of CO2 .

Since the beginning of the industrialrevolution , the amount of methane inthe atmosphere has more than doubled.

The digestive processes of ruminantanimals (e.g. cattle, sheep, goats, deer),venting of natural gas and wastedecomposition in landfills are some of themajor sources of CH4 emissions.

As per scientists¶

prediction the warmed

world will be more

humid & hot which will

result in more water

evaporation from earth

Humid weather willenhance rainfall but

with change pattern &

high intensity

Storm will be more

strong & frequent

Weather pattern are

suspected to be less

predictable and more

extreme

In 21st century IPCC

predicts a rise of  9 to

88 cm .

It will submerge 6%

AGR ICULTURE Increase in temperature

may cause a pole-ward

Shift of agriculturalzones and shift in

growing seasons.

Equatorial zones, where

agriculture is generally

unproductive now, willdeteriorate further.

In many areas currently

fertile, like parts of south

America, New Zealand,

and Southern Africa,

condition are Predicted

to become more arid and

crop yields to become

more marginal.

Animal and plants will find

it difficult to escape from oradjust to effect of warming

because of less availability of

space already occupied by

human populace.

ANIMAL

Approximately 20-30% of

plant and animal Species

assessed so far are likely to be

at greater risk of extinction if

increases in global Average

temperature exceed 1.5 to 2.5

Celsius.

Conditioning

Setting your thermostat just 2

degrees lower in winter and higher

in summer could save about 2,000

pounds of carbon dioxide each year.

Change a Light Bulb

CFLs last 10 times longer thanincandescent bulbs, use two-thirds

less energy, and give off 70 percent

less heat.If every family in India replaces one

regular light bulb with a CFL, it

would eliminate 900 billion pounds

of greenhouse gases, the same astaking 27.5 million cars off the

road.

Buy Energy-Efficient Products

Home appliances now come in a rangeof energy-efficient products

Avoid products that come with excess packaging, especially molded plastic andother packaging that can't be recycled. If you reduce your household garbage by

10 percent, you can save 1 ,200 poundsof carbon dioxide annually.

Use the "Off" SwitchSave electricity and reduce global

warming by turning off lights when you
