Global Dance Challenge, where dance is the common language. Global Dance Challenge, where aspiring dancers are mentored by some of the world’s most distinguished Directors, Choreographers and Teachers. This past August, in beautiful Vancouver, Canada, Global Dance Challenge hosted over 200 competitors from all over the world and 12 internationally renowned jury members. Chan Hon Goh, Artistic Director of GDC, Prima Ballerina, and former Principal Ballerina of National Ballet of Canada is the visionary behind Global Dance Challenge. Ms Goh believes in creating an experience where aspiring dancers can showcase their talents, as well as receive mentorship by dance luminaries. It was a week full of sharing invaluable knowledge, cultivating artistic excellence and unlimited inspiration.

GlobalDanceChallenge,aplatformwheredancersfromallovertheworldcanuniteandhaveanextraordinaryexperience.GlobalDanceChallenge,wheredanceisthecommonlanguage.GlobalDanceChallenge,whereaspiringdancersarementoredbysomeoftheworld’smostdistinguishedDirectors,ChoreographersandTeachers.

ThispastAugust,inbeautifulVancouver,Canada,GlobalDanceChallengehostedover200competitorsfromallovertheworldand12internationallyrenownedjurymembers.ChanHonGoh,ArtisticDirectorofGDC,PrimaBallerina,andformerPrincipalBallerinaofNationalBalletofCanadaisthevisionarybehindGlobalDanceChallenge.MsGohbelievesincreatinganexperiencewhereaspiringdancerscanshowcasetheirtalents,aswellasreceivementorshipbydanceluminaries.Itwasaweekfullofsharinginvaluableknowledge,cultivatingartisticexcellenceandunlimitedinspiration.

GlobalDanceChallengeofferedavarietyofmasterclassesover3daysaswellaseach

participantreceivedprofessionalcoachingontheircompetitionpiecebyoneofthehonorable

jurymembers.Participantswerealsogiventheopportunitytoshowcasetheirtechnical

strengthsandartisticabilitiesinthestudiowiththemandatorymarkedmasterclasses.Itwasanexciting3dayswheretheyoungdancerswerenurturedtoperformtotheirfullestcapacity.

OnAugust11th&12th,2019alltheaspiringdancershadachancetoperforminthesemifinals.

Dancersperformedsolos,duos,groupsandensemblesinclassicalballet,neo-classical,

internationaldance,jazzandcontemporary.FromtheSemiFinals,thetopdancerswere

selectedtoperformagainintheFinalsonAugust13th.Allcompetitorstrulydancedtotheir

fullestpotential.

LyricFernandesin“Reflections”PhotobyChenYiluOnAugust14th,GlobalDanceChallengehadtheirGalaperformance.TheGalaperformancewasattheillustriousQueenElizabethTheatre.EverysinglecompetitorhadtheopportunitytoperformattheGala.AttheGala,theawardswereannouncedasweretheprizes.ThesecondhalfoftheGalawasfilledwithspeciallyselecteddancesbytheJurytoshowcaseoutstandingpieces.TheGlobalDanceChallengeGalafeaturedincredibleguestperformers.DancersfromtheGuangzhouBalletcaptivatedaudiencesastheydebutedtheirNorthAmericanPremierof“SwanLakePasdeDeux”aswellas“LeCorsairePasdeDeux”.PrincipaldancersfromthePacificNorthwestBalletperformedadazzlingrenditionofthe“Tarantella”.

balletsolo(categoryA2),Contemporarysolo(categoryD2)andfortheFlamesofParisPasde

DeuxwithMargaritaRouraFernandes.AntónioCasalinho&MargaritaRouraFernandes–from

Portugal,wereawardedthePrixdeL’OrforCategoryA.ThePrixd’ArgentforcategoryAwas

awardedtoMexico’sAngelVizcainowhoalsoreceivedthesilvermedalforhisBalletsolo

(categoryA2)andcontemporarysolo(categoryD2).Canada’sTaliElmanreceivedgoldforher

balletsolo(categoryA3),silverforhercontemporarysolo(categoryD3)andthePrixde

Bronzefor(categoryA).TheOutstandingChoreographyawardwentto2contemporarysolos.

OnewasawardedtoCanadianChoreographerKirstenWicklundfor“ADealwithChaos”and

PolishchoreographerBarbaraBartnik,for“Incumbency”.BeijingAobaInternationalArtsCentre

–fromChinareceivedOutstandingDanceOrganizationandNicholasMihlarfromCanada

receivedMostPotentialand2honorablementionsbytheJuryforhisballetsoloand

contemporarysolo.Healsowasawardednumerousscholarships.
